I had decided after looking at all the travel books on Ireland that we would be able to handle about a day of cows and sheep grazing on the rolling green fields. When I started reading about the the WILD ATLANTIC WAY I knew this is what we needed! This route is the world’s newest and longest defined coastal touring route…just 2500 km - we would actually driving at the edge of Europe (or as an Irish lad said) this would be the "last stop before New York" . We seem to get our adrenaline rush from those very very narrow roads - that have boarders of bushes which are instead of shoulders on the road. In simple terms - you are driving on the wrong side of the road with no room for error . ... read more

I'm not sure how we chose to go to Ireland- we thought about Kenya, we thought about the rockies in Canada and then i was sure that we had to go to the Antarctica! Yes! I needed to be between floating in subzero water between huge mountains of Ice. We had enough frequent flyer miles ( thanks to Jeff) for all of those places but we kept going around in circles if we should leave the country especially with all that is happening in the last few weeks? Two days before our flight and before we went to work- we sat in our bomb shelter, with the sirens blaring and just looked at each other - and pondered! As the plane taxied and quietly took off - I looked out of the small oval window and ... read more

I'm up.. 4:30 in the morning and I am scanning outside looking for light to beacon into my window but all I see is my white curtain slowly moving. My dog is feeling my movement and comes next to me wagging her tail hoping to go for a walk. Can it be that I am having Sun lag and not jet lag? After a long trip home that included some serious turbulence. I was trying to relax (since the good old pill had wore off between connecting flights) while listening to a very loud lady behind me going on and on about whatever. I have to admit how impressed I was that she didn't loose her train of thought as the plane was being tossed from side to side. Landed , slammed a 100 pound suitcase ... read more

We were heading towards our last leg of the trip leaving the Bergen area and on our way to Oslo - with a stop at Fagernes county. We are looking at a 5 hour trip and couldn't decide which road would be more scenic (e16 or the rv 7) and yet, not take a 1000 hours. As we entered the round about and as Jeff circled it twice our indecision was halted as the confusion of all of my voiced thoughts had Jeff turning off and leading us into the Lærdal Tunnel. That means two things - first- we are driving E16 and secondly we will be driving thru a tunnel for 24 kilometers! Yes' it's cool that we are driving into the longest tunnel in the world. Luckily this tunnel has two lanes (what a ... read more

Ok! I'm tired of driving, exhausted and missing a good cup of coffee. We feel like we've been traveling for weeks and it's only been 8 days..yesterday I just really wanted to hang but we really felt we had to go to Voss and Flam after all the hype we had read and heard. So after lying in the sun at 9 o'clock in the evening (i even got a little tan) we got onto the web to find out what there was to do. Jeff really really wanted to hike and luckily one of the first sites that we hit was Flam hiking. So early in the morning we took the longer route out of Mo - that's what they call this place around here, for a 3 hour drive to Flam. I felt a ... read more

As we inched our way down from Alesund to Bergen we slowly saw the scenery change before our eyes. For the last week we were playing in a disneyland adventure. Between the bright lime green pastures set against the dark greens of the forest that are protecting the farms yet, we couldnt decide for the life of us - do we look at the reflection in the lake and see the painted picture or look around and see the beauty in fragments all the while taking in so many details that made us exhausted at the end of the day. We were on an 8 hour journey towards the south , where the mountains became rounder and the colors a bit more subdued. The rivers were almost empty but we were so happy as mickey mouse ... read more

On shabbat I had decided that I wanted to see a species of birds called PUFFINS, they are little cute birds with red beaks and hang out on an Island called Runde. Jeff saw an ad for a zodiac boat ride (that actually looked more like a dingy with a major motor) that will get you to the island in an hour - where you see the puffins nesting or just floating around and maybe some seals too. As you can imagine all this sunlight is getting to my head. I dont sleep till 2 am and then I'm up at 5:30 so in this state of insanity I agreed and off we went on Sunday to see the Puffins. oh was this my idea? We drove the 30 km to Alesund. this city is known ... read more

We are addicted! No other way to explain the need to go back to that mountain pass and experience it on a nice clear sunny day. Our plan was to back track thru route 55, and then go to the Geirangerfjord (which is included on UNESCO's World Heritage List) drive to the Trollstigen (English: Trolls' Path)which is a snake like mountain road with its steep incline of 9% and eleven hairbends down a steep mountainside ( we never learn) and then try to get to the city of Molde in time for a jazz concert and then finish at our out of the way storjford hotel and make it for shabbat by 10 at night.. So the download is this .... we drove for about nine hours. Half of those hours I was in a state ... read more

The owner at the Beste Bakken waited up for us as we drove up at 23:00 with a warm welcome, he showed us our room and quickly disappeared. I woke to the 4:30 sunrise and somehow crashed till 6. We werent aware that just an hour from Best Bakken was a very impressive glacier, we only found that out after we returned from our 5 hour car ride around the world and back. Off to see the BLUE ICE and as we drove we kept passing a sign with a blue bus. Jeff couldnt understand how they had so many stops for tour busses to take pictures in the middle of these narrow roads. they dont they are called bus stops.. it was a great laugh As you recall on my trips we get a haircut, ... read more

Blue Ice- yes that is what Jeff wanted to see when we talked about our trip to Norway. I had been planning the pretty standard trip (norway in a nutshell - as they call it) and then out of nowhere came the Blue Ice request. "Glaciers?" you want to see ice? open the freezer". I vaguely remember climbing a glacier just outside of Denver in the early 70's, way before anyone was talking global warming. All I could remember thinking was - OK a big slab of Ice.. next... Glaciers, wow - a game changer.. so I redirected my thinking, canceled all of our bookings and went back to the drawing board.
