Locked Toilet on the bus? I have read on another blog that if the bathroom is not working/locked, they hand you a bag in case you have to go. Did this happen to ya'll? Glad you made it back to Quito. I will be flying into Guayaquil and then Banos, Cuenca and Salinas: so a lot of bus riding.
What fun! Well, I'm happy to hear that you were able to get out of that other place into a better situation! Even the cold shower doesn't sound too bad; I often take one in the summer just to cool off. Your bike trip sounded fun. What did you do with the bikes while you were at the beach? Was it safe to just leave them and go off and enjoy the sand and water? The "sunset" looks beautiful, even with the clouds. The sky always puts on a show at the end of the day.
Guides They almost always can speak English, but we leave it up to them to choose English or Spanish. One time the guide preferred English, so he could get more practice.
La Baula Lodge Yes, it was fantastic, especially for $70 per night. Two or three nights we were the only ones there. It really picks up starting in June.
Love your blog! What fun, JC! I love your blogs because you do so many interesting and unusual things on your journeys--definitely once-in-a-lifetime trips! (For most people, not-in-their lifetime trips!) The pictures are great, too. Like you, I was charmed by the bear/monkey face in the coffee, and the photos of the scenery and restaurants add so much to your story.
Great to hear your having a great time with some very interesting sights. Your lunch sounds really good. That Jesus Christ lizard had me going. You guys have fun.
Jesus Christ Lizard I was thinking the Jesus Christ lizard might be named that because that is what one says when one sees that lizard. ;) You have seen some really cool animals, birds, and reptiles on this trip.
Monteverde Juju, we just arrived in Monteverde. Wait til you see all the cool sloths, monkeys, and such we'll see here! Too late arriving for photos, so check out tomorrows blog,
your trip JC and Manoli thank you for the pictures and commentary. By describing your journey exactly and all you encounter/endure, you provide the reader what to expect and how to prepare thanks. Costa Rica is on my list of places to retire. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Thanks Sheila, that's one of the main reasons I do the blog, so others can enjoy some too and maybe use my information to improve their vacation. Read on
Happy you loved your trip to Kalyves We are always proud for people who love our culture and do anything to promote it. Thank you!!! Philia (APOKOROS HOTEL APT KALYVES)
Have you been to Crater Lake in Oregon? The pictures look a lot like Crater Lake in Oregon although it is not nearly at such a high altitude. We thought it was one of the prettiest places in the US. Have you ever been there? If not, you should surely plan a swing through the Northwest.
We will be out of Internet range too, but in WV Hey, John. I may be able to read your blog on 3G but not too sure. We are going to be in the wilds of West Virginia at the Appalachian String Band Festival in Clifftop. The Festival is referred to a just "Clifftop". We can get internet if we miss a bunch of music and walk a long way (for me) so won't do it often. Won't be able to follow your travels closely. Leaving Wed, the 25th. Back Aug 6, 7, maybe a couple days later. I know you will be having fun and seeing some incredible scenery.
Latacunga In Latacunga it was only cold at night. Wait til you see the next blogs from Quilotoa and Chugchilan where we are now. Just now got internet connection.
Happily, and luckily, married to a cute, younger spanish-born lady, now an American citizen. Computer Programmer by day and carpenter wannabe by night.
