I was up at seven and at the breakfast place, before eight. Since I had plenty of time today, I decided to eat at the stall/restaurant. I added chicken to my rice porridge today, but it wasn't very nice, definitely should have stuck to the pork, only. I saw an offering while I was having breakfast, that was cool. A monk was walking by, and the couple at the table next to me called him over, but a bottle of pop in his urn(?) and knelt praying, while the monk chanted away. Thai people are so devout. It's cool how they can fit it into their day like this. It reminds me of in Japan, when people would stop and pray at the shrines set up on the street. I waited ages for my pick-up, over ... read more

An early start, as I was heading to the highest peak in Thailand. I went off in search of some breakfast, I headed to the main crossroads and came across some stalls. I tried to order of the menu, but the woman explained that the menu was for the night stall, not what she was selling. She opened two big pots of rice porridge to show me what was on offer, one looked kind of plain and the other looked a bit more exciting, so I opted for that. I got to pick which meat I wanted to add, there were a few on offer and I picked pork. The lady bagged it up for me and gave me a bowl and spoon, and I took it back to the hotel to eat. It was definitely ... read more

I got myself sorted for the next few days, booking all the tours I wanted to do. Some were fully booked, as this is a busy period for the city, and also some businesses are closed for the new year, so they can take a break. I had a coffee at the hotel's cafe, and because I didn't have the money on me to pay for my tours, one of the ladies from the hotel drove me up to the atm on her motorbike, as she was going to Tesco anyway. For breakfast, I consulted the map that the ladies at reception gave me, and settled on a restaurant, which was about a five minute walk away, and in a part of the neighbourhood, I hadn't been to. I found the restaurant, well I actually walked ... read more

It was quite noisy outside last night, so I didn't sleep too well. The bags under my eye were huge and no amount of slap could hide their existence, however my headache had gone! I didn't think that would have happened due to my lack of sleep. I went down to the reception/cafe/lounge room to pay for my room for the week. The two ladies working there were lovely. They sorted out my payment and then sat me down with several maps, one of the neighbourhood I was staying in, a one which had the whole city on it, and another one for Maerim (which I didn't end up visiting). It was so sweet of them, on the map of Chiang Mai, they pointed out the main sites to visit in the old city, and other ... read more

I have been wanting to visit Mr. Toilet House for a couple of years, but because I knew it was pretty close, I hadn't gotten round to it. I finally managed to schedule it in, on a free Saturday morning. After some research on naver (the Korean Google) I found that I could take a bus directly from my house to the museum. Score! The bus journey did take forever though, well over an hour as the bus wound its way around various parts of Suwon I had never been to. It was about a 5-10 minute walk from the bus stop to Mr. Toilet House. We arrived at the museum, and of course, the first thing we did was use the toilets. Very clean, as you would expect. They also have a special children's toilet ... read more

15th Nov: We had stayed the night at Incheon, so that we were close to the ferry terminal. We had tried to stay at the same motel as we had when we went to Baeknyeong-do, but since we had arrived late, after 11 pm, it was full. But the lovely man pointed out another motel to us. We were up early, as our ferry left at nine am, luckily the motel was a tow minute walk to the ferry terminal. It wasn't as busy as it had been back in May, I noticed that the old information board had been removed and replaced with a brand new electronic one. No sign left of the Sewol now. We got our tickets from the desk, they were very efficient, as they had them printed out ready for us. ... read more

We were up at the crack of dawn, 6 am. Not that I really slept because the room was too hot (as always), and the walls were paper thin, so I could hear some drunk girls chuntering away and also someone hacking up a lung. When we were leaving the room, we saw the bus driver coming out from the room across from us, so that was the coughing culprit. He really needs to cut down on the fags. We headed over to the other pension and got some breakfast. I had a huge headache last night, and it was still lingering this morning, so it took me forever to eat some breakfast. After a bit of waiting around, we were on the bus to head to the national park. We drove for over an hour ... read more

We left around eight, the traffic was a nightmare, as everyone was travelling south. This is the peak weekend to see all autumn colours at their best. We had quick pit stop in Daejeon. We picked up some kimbap to keep us going. We drove on further and arrived at our first destination, Sinsido in Gunsan. Sinsido is the largest of the 24 islands in the Gogunsan Island Cluster. It is located at the centre of the Saemangeum Seawall, which connects Gunsan and Buan. It is the longest seawall of its kind in the world. We did a short hike, olny about half an hour up to a view point. The hike was quite steep. We thought that we were at the top, but we weren't and we had to go a bit further to reach ... read more

I stumbled across KOFIC Namyangju Studios, while I was looking up something for my blog about the JSA. On Google images, an image popped up of a girl taking a selfie in the JSA, she was on the steps of the North Korean side, and it totally baffled me, as how is that possible in the JSA, it's so strict. Anyway, I clicked onto her blog and found out that she wasn't at the JSA, but was in fact at the film studios in Namyangju. I sent the link to a friend and we made a plan to visit as soon as we had a free Saturday. We took the subway all the way up to Ungilsan station. It was a bloody long journey, over two hours, and the air was distinctly cooler as we alighted ... read more

Iv'e been wanting to do this hike for ages, and I finally had a free Saturday morning on which I could do it. I always pass this area on the bus, and see all the hikers alighting the subway. I took the Shin-Bundang line, to Cheonggysan Station. The Shin-Bundang line is pretty fancy and the trains are driverless, however that works. I came out of exit two, and there were quite a few hikers about. I had read on someone's blog that this hike is very popular, so try to get there early to avoid the queues. However eight thirty was too late in my book as there were a tonne of people already about. It was a sharp contrast to my hike last week, which was largely people free. I though that the trail would ... read more
