What a morning! It started off okay, got packed up and had a nice breakfast at the restaurant. We sat waiting for our tuk-tuk to turn up. We waited ages and it became evident that he had forgotten about us or had a better offer. It took 45 minutes from where we were staying on Panglao Island to the ferry port, we were on a serious time crunch. The owners of our guesthouse saved the day, they had to go to a flower market near the ferry port, so they offered to take us. We were relieved for about a minute, until we realised we had to wait for the driver and van to turn up. It was stressful, waiting and watching the minutes tick by. The van turned up and we drove to the port, ... read more

We were still shattered, so didn't get up to early. We headed over to the restaurant for some breakfast and to ask them about the boat trip we wanted to do. We shared a continental and an English breakfast, they were good. The bread was really delicious, and sharing the two meant we got a good combo of fruit, bacon and eggs. The owner of the guesthouse went off to see the boatman, the one they usually use was already booked for the day, so she was going to see if another fisherman was available. We ordered some sandwiches to take on the boat trip with us, and went to the little convenience store near our accommodation to stock on water and snacks. When we were ready, the owner took us to the boat. We went ... read more

Too many snoozes on the alarm clock meant that we had to miss out on breakfast. Our bodies were still recovering from our long overnight journey and lack of sleep. The power had gone off during the night meaning that the fan had gone off during the night. It was pretty warm when got up, but not unbearable. The water had run out during the night too, so I had to run over to the restaurant and grab an extra bucket full. Doing a bucket wash, definitely made showering a lot quicker. Our driver was ready and waiting for us at 8 am. We headed off. We drove around Panglao Island first, the driver did a quick stop at Alona Beach, and we decided that we would come back there later in the day. Since the ... read more

What a mission it was to get here! Straight from work, on to the bus and then two subways to reach the airport. From Incheon a turbulent four hour and twenty minute flight to Cebu Mactan Airport, a taxi ride from the airport to the port, from the island of Mactan to the island of Cebu. We were there in time to watch the sunrise, we didn't have the greatest view but the sky was a beautiful shade of pink. We bought our ferry tickets 800 pesos for a return journey and went to bunk down in the ferry terminal for a bit. When the cafe opened, we headed up there to get some breakfast. Yummy, yummy, rice, fried eggs and chorizo. It was delicious, proper sausage, none of that hot dog crap! After feeling like ... read more

Petite France is a French style village nestled in rural Gyeonggi-do. It is situated between Cheongpyeong and Gaypyeong, two smallish towns. It's quite a trek from Seoul, but since we were in the area, we headed there for a look around. We got a lift there and joined the queue to pay our entrance fee. For a cold, overcast afternoon in January, the place was pretty busy, definitely busier than I expected. I think the entrance fee was 8,000 won. We wandered around the village for a couple hours, we had got a leaflet when entered which had a map on it, but we didn't really use it. There were plenty of things to take photos of. The village is a mix of outdoor and indoor things. The views were pretty, you could see out over ... read more

The Blue House, or to give it its Korean name, Cheongwadae is the executive office and official residence of the Korean head of state. It is where the current president Park Geunhye (and many presidents before her) lives and works. I had been meaning to visit the Blue House for years, but kept forgetting about it, as spaces are very limited. Finally, I decided that it had to be this winter. There are limited spaces available for English speakers, only ten per tour, with four tours either every Saturday or every other Saturday (I can't remember which). I had to reserve spaces on this tour months in advance, you have to get in early especially if you want a spot on a Saturday tour, I think the week day ones don't get booked up so quick. ... read more

I dragged myself out of bed, the only problem with sleeping so well the night before was it took me forever to get to sleep last night. I packed up my stuff and headed out to Thanin market for some breakfast. I went to a different stall and I ordered a red curry omelette. They used the term omelette very loosely, as in reality, it was just red curry, rice, and a fried egg on top, not what I had envisioned in my mind, but it tasted great. I, then, headed back to the hotel to check out and leave my bags in reception. The ladies were so sweet, they told me to get back before eight, so that they could get me a tuk-tuk to take me to the airport. I then headed into the ... read more

I had a glorious lie-in today, I woke up at 10:45, and I think I could have happily slept longer, but I had lots to see and do. I decided to head to Sunee restaurant, which I had been to a few days ago for breakfast, but when I got there it was shut. I headed to Thanin Market, which I was going to go to anyway. I wish I had had the time to discover this place earlier! In front of the market, there was a massive food court, filled with stalls. Too much choice! I walked around the outside for a bit, but all of the signs were in Thai. I entered the food court, most of the tables had menus in both English and Thai. I ordered a pork omelette from Rungnape. It ... read more

I was up at the crack of dawn, 5:50 am to be precise. It was still pitch black outside. I ate the pork bun, that I had bought at Seven Eleven. It was rank, sweet, bleurgh! I made it downstairs just before seven, and the security guard told me that they wouldn't arrive to pick me up, until 7:30. Well, he knows his stuff, as it was after 7:35, when they arrived. Everyone was pretty miserable in the van, maybe it was the early start on New Year's Day and lack of sleep. We picked up some more people after me, and once the van was full for we drove for an hour and a half. Today was going to be a long day of driving. The rest stop we stopped at was billed as a ... read more

I was up at seven and at the breakfast place, before eight. Since I had plenty of time today, I decided to eat at the stall/restaurant. I added chicken to my rice porridge today, but it wasn't very nice, definitely should have stuck to the pork, only. I saw an offering while I was having breakfast, that was cool. A monk was walking by, and the couple at the table next to me called him over, but a bottle of pop in his urn(?) and knelt praying, while the monk chanted away. Thai people are so devout. It's cool how they can fit it into their day like this. It reminds me of in Japan, when people would stop and pray at the shrines set up on the street. I waited ages for my pick-up, over ... read more
