Arriving at Bequia we went to anchor in our usual place, next to the big buoys, a couple in a dinghy came out to tell us not to anchor there, they said there were fuel lines to get caught up in, Alan has dived that whole area so knew this was not likely. A heated discussion on our boat, but the captain’s word was law, and we anchored. He went in and dived the anchor, and was pleased to report that there was nothing to worry about. We into town and went to the sailors cafe, a small cafe which we like, we all had lunch. Bruce had a roti, and it was good. The sun was shining down, we walked past all the market stalls, the colours of the fruit and vegetables glistening, bright primary ... read more

Bequia to Carricou More diving, a beach barbecue, swimming. Bequia was as ever great fun. Then on to Carricou. Carricou is an island about 30 miles north of Grenada, we visited there two years ago, it was very tranquil and sweet. Nothing much seems to happen there. It is a very green lush little place, with little volcanic peaks, a small capital town of Hillsborough, and some very photogenic houses. We had a great sail down there, the wind on the beam, perfect sailing. We anchored in Tyrell bay, a big wide anchorage, safe and clean, fringed by mangrove swamps. As we anchored the man on the next boat said’ Hello Eleanor’ It was peter and veronica’s friend, they had told them we were coming! We went round for a drink that evening, Michael and ... read more

BEQUIA TO ST LUCIA Ok, where did I leave you? We spent almost a week in Bequia, we met another HR but much bigger than ours, a 53 , called Saskia. The couple, Simon and Jenny, and their teenaged children were really nice, we invited them for a drink at 5.30pm, by 1.30am we were all best friends! Next day Simon made us some wonderful rotis, it was a very enjoyable lunch. We went diving again and did the devils reef, we cleaned up the boat, did jobs, and went out again with Peter and Veronica. Did some ou work, trying to be enthusiastic. Then we had a day where it just rained all day. We sailed over to Wallibilou, and had a quiet night there, before going to St Lucia the next morning. From the ... read more

BEQUIA Still here, the wind has been howling and making the boat heel over. We decided to move further into the bay, which I think was a good decision, it has been more comfortable here. The wind has been gusting a lot at night, gusts of 30 knots and it has woken us up. During the day we have been off the boat. We caught the bus to Friendship bay. We had asked if there were any buses, and as usual they were not exactly crystal clear with the answer. 'yeah there a bus' 'when does it go?' 'no schedule' 'Ok right. But it turns out it is a pickup truck with seats, hop on hop off. He dropped us at the top of the road to Friendship bay, and Alan went round to the drivers ... read more

(h2) BEQUIA(/h2) This has been a really fun time here. We have enjoyed fairly calm seas, one night of wind, but otherwise still, lovely gentle breeze. Great barbeque on the beach, can we really drink that much rum? And then the jazz festival has been entertaining as well, it was great to sit on the beach listen and watch live music. So what have we been doing. Well firstly we walked to the other side of the island, about 3 miles to go to the turtle sanctuary. It was interesting but the owner was not too thrilled when Alan asked if you could eat them!! We were not really looking forward tot he long walk back, but there was an open taxi waiting for some americans so we asked if they could drop us off in ... read more

After a night in a very gloomy dank and wet Marigot bay, we were up quite early to sail across to St Vincent. As we motored up the side of St Lucia the clouds seem to hover amongst the green verdant forested hills. Inside the boat everything had felt damp that morning, even the pages of the log book were limp and soggy. As we cleared the island the whole atmosphere inside the boat changed, just as if you had turned on an airconditioner, everything dried up, the sun came out, and St Lucia was a smudgy darkness behind us. We saw callisto in front and stopped for a chat alongside, then carried on to sail to Wallibilou. Another good sail, gentle winds except for the edges of the islands, loads of yachts out, all passage ... read more

What a sail! The sun shining down, warm water splashing on the deck, calm cobalt blue sea, and a wind of about 15knots on the beam..THIS is why we came! What alovely few hours, ST lucia appearing before us and Martinique gradually getting smaller. We had coffee with callisto before leaving, and did a book swap, and then really enjoyed our sail across, it is only about 24 miles, and there were lots of yachts out, making the passage both ways. It took about 10 minutes for me to be in the water after we had dropped the anchor, swimming round the boat, even alan got in later. The water is crystal clear and we are anchored off Reduit beach, with the long sandy beach of the hotel facing us. (I think this is where my ... read more

Windscreens get mended, cars get taken back and baguettes get bought for lunch. The windscreen is all repaired and hopefully will do us until we get a new one. It was tense to do the work but Alan was good as ever and now we think it will do the job. We are off to St lucia tomorrow, we came down here to st annes yesterday and anchored off the sandy beach just in time for a swim. Later we went ashore to the little village of st annes, a small centre with a square, a church, a few restaurants, couple of supermarkets and best of all between two houses two ladies cooking and selling accras, like cod balls, very tasty. 10 accras and two glasses of planteurs, french rum punch for 10 euros. very nice. ... read more

Le Marin We have always liked Le Marin, it is a real boaty place with probably 200 plus yachts anchored off and a large marina. The Marina is well equipped with chandlers and useful shops, boutiques and nearby a big supermarket that you can drive up to with the dinghy. The wine is reasonable here, and the cheeses and pates, are just like the real 'France'. We sailed up from st pierre, and it was a boisterous sail. The reefing block flew off again, another job for Alan, but the boat was fine. We motored into the estuary below Le Marin, it was blowing 30knots but not too rough. I think that Le Marin emphasises the wind. The channel into Le Marin goes past the club med, and a beautiful long sandy beach, it looks lovely. The ... read more

Les Saintes These pretty little islands are about eight miles from guadaloupe and as we sailed there a big storm blacked out the sea and the island, we even had to put the radar on. but soon the islands appeared and the little town on the island of haut terre was very sweet, with a few streets cafes, restaurants, and a ferry full of tourists arriving each morning to fill the island. when they have all gone it seems very quiet and tranquil, almost as if the island is relaxing again and taking a deep breath. We had been here before with Jim and Jan a couple of years ago, it did not seem to have changed much. There is a fort on the top of the hill overlooking the town, loads of iguanas run around ... read more
