Probably worth noting at this point, that since our 2018 USA trip and the world had a little conniption for 3 odd years, prices of everything have increased here. Food, fuel, accommodation, drinks - probably due in some part to an overall wage increase in the last couple years. Add the poor AUD exchange rate and it makes a difference. However, the American everyday people are still great, willing to chat to Aussie's on the road, especially when you're on a Harley. The meal sizes are still over the top, huge portions which we struggle to finish. And most of you know I love a bourbon, well last night I ordered JD on the rocks, it arrived in a standard short whiskey glass, bit of ice then filled to the top, not a nip pourer in ... read more

Now to start this blog, an important announcement - the wildlife count took a dramatic increase on Day 18 - please add 3 x Longhorn Sheep, 1 x Deer & 1 x Fox (the chicken stealing kind, not the kind you find at nightclubs!) Let's hope the count continues to increase! Day 16 - Here we are in Colorado Springs, sitting in Applebee's for dinner, looking out at Pikes Peak complete with a fresh dusting of snow and ominous black clouds gathering. Hopefully they'll be gone in the morning when we ride past the 14,115 feet high peak. Glad to get out of Garden City this morning, the air had the pungent odor of cattle, millions of cattle, so we've been told that there are 7 feedlots around town & two abattoir's which process 11,000 head ... read more

Now, on our past visits to America, we've kept a running tally of wildlife seen along the way, just the live stuff of course. But we are very disappointed on this trip as we've only seen 2 deer in a gully on the side of the road on day 4. Normally by now the count is into a dozen plus at worst. The roadkill count is massive but as we are heading into Colorado in the next couple days, the count will increase. Also, the prices on pretty much everything has increased since 2018. Fuel is around $3.99 to $4.20 a gallon for 91 grade. We fueled with 93 yesterday, but that's the best we've seen so far. All food has increased as has alcohol. Motel accommodation is also probably 20% up on 2018. Day 13 ... read more

I have to say the last 3 days have been great, its amazing that once you cross the border from Texas into Arkansas, Mississippi & Tennessee, the whole culture changes from the Mexican/Spanish flavor changes to the deep south culture, from taco's to ribs, the language change also. It's as amazing as the American landscape, from desert to high mountain pine forests to miles and miles of crops. So many Aussies in Memphis this weekend, we were sitting next to 3 guys and they were chatting about Aussie culture when a Aussie family walked by, the we did the Aussie, Aussie, Aussie thang, then another couple walked in and sat down not far away. Day 10 - Left Armore early after another fantastic dinner at the 2 Frogs Bar & Grill next door to our motel. ... read more

Day 7 - Dinner at La Cocina last night, great Mexican restaurant, great decor, food was good but nothing to write home about (and as I type this I realise that's exactly what I'm doing!), chicken enchilada's & ground beef steak (read rissole) with all the trimmings, but when asked whether we wanted green or red chile, and the answer was none please, the look on our servers face was total shock - no chile - are you crazy? Anyway it was quite nice and another early morning start for a ride down the interstate to Las Cruces, only a few miles from the Mexican border. Fuel up and a drink then off to Alamogordo and up another brilliant mountain range to Cloudcroft for lunch at Dave's Cafe. Great service by a friendly server. Another tip ... read more

Day 4 - In the lead up to Memorial Day holiday, the traffic in the freeways is chaotic at best. An early start from Blythe to beat the heat & traffic, to no avail as we found later. A quick cruise around Blythe then onto I10 to Quartzsite, the home town of a guy I follow on You Tube, Russ from RVerTV. Just a sleep little gem mining town, so no stops and back onto I10 heading for Phoenix. I had the GPS set to Buddy Stubbs HD, which I thought was the store we visited in 2016. Arrived at destination and that was not where we had been, the dealership was closed, so a quick lunch then set the GPS again and was taken to a satellite store further north on the way to Flagstaff, ... read more

Well here we are again, hitting the road on Harley Davidson Ultra Ltd's for our 4th trip. As I always mention when you are reading this blog, they are usually done later in the evening after dinner and maybe, just maybe a couple of drinks - bourbon or margarita's - a small keyboard, big fingers after a long day in the saddle. So please excuse any spelling errors. And you can enlarge the pics for a better look. Day 1 - Arriving in L.A. at 6.30pm after a sleepless night on the plane, so a quick snack, shower and bed was in order. Day 2 - Just a bit of a lazy day, a relaxing walk around Hawthorne, lunch at Chips Diner, over to Hertz Ride and meet Jim to finalize the paperwork for the bikes, ... read more

After a long Friday, leaving our Beijing hotel at 4am, Angela left for her flight home via Hong Kong on time at 8am. I, on the other hand, suffered a 2 hour delay on my flight to Guangzhou, eventually departing at 10.45am. Arriving at the President Hotel by taxi after my driver failed to show, a miserable drizzly day, and now sitting in my room on a rainy Saturday morning after catching up on much needed sleep, I'm slightly disappointed that our magical Glories of China Tour has ended. From seeing the magical sights of Shanghai, the Silk Factory, Huangpu River cruise, The Bund, Shanghai Museum & Zhujiajiao (old water town) to Guilin, the Li River cruise, Yangshuo and the local village, the Pearl Factory, Cormorant Fishing to Xi'an and the Terracotta Warriors, the Xi'an Ancient ... read more

Asia » China » Beijing » Great Wall of China April 12th 2019

DAY 10 - Although the Temple of Heaven was very interesting, the really big ticket items were still to come on Wednesday. Again we left the hotel early to beat the traffic, a short, illegal park for the coach so we could run (yes, we were told to run, as the driver could receive a ticket), to the top of an overpass to take some quick shots of the Birds Nest Stadium, where the Olympics were held some years back, 2008 I think. So picture this, 18 Aussies running down footpath in Beijing, pushing the locals aside, up the steps the overpass 3 at a time (well, maybe just one at a time, quickly), across to the other side, snap a few quick pics of the Birds Nest, then a leisurely stroll in double double time ... read more

Asia » China » Shaanxi » Xi'an April 7th 2019

DAY 7 - An early start today for our flight to Xi'an, home town of our guide, Grace. We arrived and began with a tour of Xi'an City Wall. Xi'an is the ancient capital of China and the wall was required to protect the inner city residents. A moat is being reconstructed around the wall. Our hotel for tonight is amazing, LanXi International Hotel, can't complain about the level of service here. After dinner we jumped on our coach for a nighlights tour of Xi'an, including a stroll through the pedestrian mall. As it is a very important weekend here, Memorial Public Holiday, all the women, from young ages around 13 or so up to late 20's, dress in national costumes and are very proud of doing so. A massive light display throughout the streets of ... read more
