Day 7 - Dinner at La Cocina last night, great Mexican restaurant, great decor, food was good but nothing to write home about (and as I type this I realise that's exactly what I'm doing!), chicken enchilada's & ground beef steak (read rissole) with all the trimmings, but when asked whether we wanted green or red chile, and the answer was none please, the look on our servers face was total shock - no chile - are you crazy? Anyway it was quite nice and another early morning start for a ride down the interstate to Las Cruces, only a few miles from the Mexican border. Fuel up and a drink then off to Alamogordo and up another brilliant mountain range to Cloudcroft for lunch at Dave's Cafe. Great service by a friendly server. Another tip for the riders on this blog, the 82 from Cloudcroft to Mayhill is another great mountain ride, at about 4,500 feet through the canyon's with mountains either side. Gentle sweepers at 65-70 mph are good to blow the boring interstate memories from the mind and get that bikers grin from ear to ear. So we've ended up in Roswell tonight and will be keeping an
eye out for any strange happenings or lights in the evening sky.
Dinner at the Texas Roadhouse tonight, a first for us, great place, I had the Roadkill & a couple of rather large beers.
Day 8 - So folks, today has been an absolute cracker, starting with dinner last night at Texas Roadhouse, brilliant atmosphere, terrific service and the food was amazing. This was our fist visit to Texas Roadhouse and not disappointed at all. I had the Roadkill with rice & coleslaw, nicely charred with a hint of bitumen, very tasty. A leisurely start to Tuesday with a visit to the Roswell International UFO Museum, while Norm went to the local HD dealer. The UFO Museum is worth the $7 admission with plenty of information and static displays, did it happen - is it just a big story- will we ever know? Leaving Roswell riding to Clovis and onto Hereford - Beef Capitol of the World - according to the sign - and plenty of 'Nutrition Stations' as they are now called and the inhalation of methane certainly brought the nasal sensors to life! From there a casual ride to Amarillo - staying at the Big
Texan Steak Ranch & Motel - we stayed here in 2014 on our first visit to America with Jac & Snap, nothing much has changed - still great beers - I had the Rasberry Wheat - the food was terrific - full rack of ribs with coleslaw & chilli. We also had the roving duo ask for a request, so as we are on bikes, we went with Willie Nelson's 'On the Road Again' and the band of Aussies thrown in for good measure.
Now at the bar for our pre dinner drink, we had the privilege of meeting Brian - a semi driver on his way north to Maine - we spoke for over an hour before our table was ready, and Brian did have some very different thoughts on our world, we covered many topics with this Vietnam Vet - from politics, the pandemic, world population & his thoughts on how he will leave this world. I must admit it was very disturbing & whilst we did not agree on many points of view, he respectfully listened as did we. He admitted to being a 'prepper' and has pretty much designed his last days.
A couple
of high powered storms blew in thru the night, so thoughts of a wet ride on Wednesday was on my mind, my riding pals will know just how much I love riding in the wet!
Day 9 - We left Amarillo after 9am, waiting for the skies to clear, no rain on the road which made us more relaxed. Pretty much a day on the bike - a stop at Memphis, Texas then onto Altus, Lawton and into Ardmore for tonight.
