The last day brought a much later breakfast - 8.30Am! We hoped that we would get a lie in thie morning but knew that that was improbable. Still we held out hope. It turned out that it didn't affect how early we got up but it was a nice feeling to know that we didn't have to get up and go early. We had a few hours to laze by the pool until we had to check out at 12pm. Some of us played in the pools and hot tubs and some others chilled out in their rooms and packed their cases. We met at 12 to board the coach to go to Arizona Mills - a large shopping outlet centre that is a mile long. We checked the rooms in a systematic way before departure ... read more

Day 5 dawned cold at around 0 degrees in Williams, Arizona. We were excited to see that our hotel was on Route 66 and after breakfast, we decided to have some photos taken by the famous road signs. Some of us were loving the nostalgia attached but others were unenthusiastic as they are probably a little young to appreciate the significance of the iconic route. On route to Montezuma Castle, we visited the mountain town of Sedona which is set in Oak Canyon, another stunning example of the natural beauty in this part of the USA? Sedona is famous for it's natural energy vortexes and prides itself on being the reason the world didn't end at the strike of midnight on the year 2000. 6000 people held hands and channeled their energy which supposedly made the ... read more

Today started a little later than previous days at 7.30am in a motel in Mexican Hat on the San Juan River. It lies just outside the Navajo Tribe reservation and is run by members of their tribe. After breakfast we set off for Monument Valley about half an hour away. On the approach to the valley we were momentarily struck by the familiarity of the landscape from its many appearafilms in several films. The long straight road into the monuments is the road Forrest Gump ended his run in the film and there is a sign post to mark this. We got to Monument Valley and went to the visitor centre where we observed some of the most stunning rock formations we have ever seen. We took photos at the view point and we went into ... read more

Day three dawned early and fresh with the temperature around 0 degrees and we had breakfast at the very nice Best Western Hotel in Bryce Canyon City. It was a typical western style hotel with wooden beams, stuffed animal heads and home-cooked food. The staff were friendly and the rooms were large and comfortable. We set off for Bryce Canyon National Park not really sure what to expect having had a brilliant experience in Zion yesterday. On the drive to the canyon we saw some deer and a couple of birds, which is pretty much the extent of the wildlife experiences we have had so far. The desert is devoid of life. We arrived at the Canyon and walked to the rim only to be met with an absolutely breath-taking scene of columns sandstone as far ... read more

Day 2 started in the middle of the night, around 3am local time. It turns out that adjusting to the 7 hour time difference isn't easy! We were all proud of ourselves for getting through a night in Vegas! We met for a continental breakfast at 7am and were ready in the coach to leave early! We didn't have to chase any student! I'm pretty sure that is a first on one of my trips! The hotel in Vegas was a travelodge and was a typical USA hotel with hotel rooms that lead straight outside. We set off for Zion National Park at 7.45am and we settled in for afairly long coach journey. The scenery was incredible as we left Vegas. It went from city to desert in an instant with almost no transition! A very ... read more

We arrived safely in Las Vegas to brilliant sunshine and 27 degree heat. On arrival at Gatwick we were greeted with dancing show girls, photographers and champagne (for those without 21 children to look after). All this kerfuffle ended up being because the flight we were on was the inaugural flight from Gatwick to Las Vegas. After checking and and getting through security with nothing but minor blips, we boarded the plane for our 10 hour 30 min flight. All of our students were impeccably behaved and were a credit to themselves, their families and the Academy. In typical understated Las Vegas style, we were greeted on this end by a water canon salute from the Las Vegas fire department to mark our arrival. As is customary in the US, customs and immigration took 2 hours ... read more
