Hungry in Hongdae we wandered around smelling the scents of cooking in the air. Pink and yellow banners strung across every building like a sore thumb promoting the latest specials. Walking along SeogyoroStreet we spotted Dos Tacos across the road then passed by A Twosome Place. Neither striking the desires inside our hungry bodies. Thinking about where we were an idea slowly crept into Jamesʼs mind. “Got it, follow me, this way, itʼs just down here around the corner,” James said. “Where are you taking me?” Sara replied. “Youʼll see soon enough. Iʼve seen this place a 100 times and havenʼt stopped.” They walked to the crosswalk awaiting the traffic lights to pause the automobiles to let the massive crowd cross the roadway. Eventually the light changed moving across the street bumping this person and that ... read more

A "mom and pop" restaurant is a simple dining concept across America. Buy fresh ingredients prepare food from scratch provide a delicious menu, give spectacular "homey" service and cater to regular customers. When traveling this same experience is essential to living especially when you don't speak the language. South Korean foodie tip numero-uno, look for the dirty orange awning with the white lettering on it. This is the trademark awning for all "mom and pop" Kimbap Chongu locations throughout South Korea. You wont be disappointed. The indistinguishable markings on the doors and windows denoting the arrival at Kimbap Chongu. The decor is old and worn out. The tables are made of a yellow and white formica wood table top with brown aluminum legs ready to bend towards the ground at any moment a heavy customer leans ... read more

There is a serious chocolatier living across the street with over fifty different tantalizing chocolate desserts to make any mouth salivate. Exquisite aromas flutter out onto the street as the cocoa is combined, fired up, melted, shaped, sprinkled, swirled and molded into chocolate delights. Ninety-percent of the menu is in Korean. The only English words available were ice cream, sundae, chocolate, truffle and cake. Pointing at a poster the selection is made, money exchanged hands and a number is given. A hand points the way to the eating area strolling past boxed chocolates noticing the prices 9-piece for 15,500 won ($13.90) and 6-piece for 12,500 ($11.10), just in case. Picking a table in the corner beside one of three glass walls staring out into the hazy afternoon, waiting. Arriving eight minutes later a glass bowl is ... read more

Many years ago an unnamed visionary dreamt of a collaborative community where artists from every background would congregate, build their homes, have their studios and exhibit their work. With the artists building, creating and producing their work, people would flock to the community to discuss, interact and observe the artist within their workspace. This visionaries dream became a reality in 1994 when a group of architects met to discuss plans, design and develop a town around the idea of a collaborative artistic community integrated within its environment. The architects on the project were Kyong-Kyu Kim, Kyoung-Kook Woo, Jong-Ho Lee, Jong-Kyu Kim, and Hellen Park. Several years passed as the project was put on hold but then on December 22nd, 1999 an agreement with the Korea Land Corporation was signed and construction began in February 2001. Buddha's Birthday celebration began Thursday May 5th lasting an entire week. Over the weekend the Lotus Lantern Festival was held along Jongnu-boulevard in Insadong. We gathered supplies for the day and headed out of Paju early on Saturday morning. Our plans including scrounging through Seoul on our own than regroup in Myeong-dong to grab grub, walk to the festival and acquire seats. Shauna spent her time in Hongdae and Myeong-dong, doing a bit of eye-shopping. And I went down to Noryangjin Fisheries Market then into Nandemun Market to do research on a couple possible digital-SLR and Micro-four thirds cameras. As we met up in Myeong-dong, time began to fade towards the hour that the lotus lantern festival was to begin. We postponed dinner to wander towards Jongnu. Call it poor timing (on my behalf) but we ... read more

This first album is from the day we arrived in the Philippines. These are the images I took during our first day on the island. We decided to leave our resort around noon after a four-hour nap in the morning. La Estrella Beach Resort is located on the northwestern edge of the island. There are several dirt roads and a few paved bits to walk around the island. The island's population is around 4,000 people. 90% of the people walk the island to get from one place to another. Otherwise there are motorscooters and a variety of boats. During our walk across the island we met people of the island, saw the cemetery, ate lunch on the northeast side of the island at Cabilao Beach Club Resort and enjoyed the warm tropical sunshine. These are the ... read more

Thirty-two hours into writing a short story my brains froze up, literally they went numb. There were zero thoughts coming into my head this is when I decided not to stay in the apartment any longer. Grabbing my computer, notepad and satchel, I flung on my blue winter jacket, a pair of jeans and headed out the door. Destination unknown I wandered across the street into Heyri Art Valley. With numerous choices, I walked past Quilt Café, ducking past Agora Museum, wandering past Frog Café, down the road I went kicking pebbles thinking of nothing in search of a café for a cup of tea. Twenty minutes later I had passed every café within the middle of Heyri. Soon, I found myself near the courtyard surrounding the iLikeDalki kids playground. Noticing for the first time there ... read more
