27th Feb - Nuwara Eliya, not much from S and J today. Perhaps they are still embarassed after they witnessed their father ranting to the tuk tuk driver who had cheated him and his family. Perhaps shouting "thief" numerous times across a buy street was not the way to handle such a situation. So, it falls to the “Full English-man” to describe this place so I’ll do it briefly. Favoured by colonial English and Scottish tea planters for it’s cool climate, it’s quite surreal and comes complete with Victoria Park, members only Lakeside Club (with paddle boat Swans), race course, and lots of almost typically English houses, English plus a “hint of Ceylonese”. We stayed at The Trevene, once the summer residence of the British Governor, for use when Colombo and the coast became too hot.
