Two days in Dublin and the weather has been great. I arrived with no delays, and twenty minutes later Heather came from her long journey from Bermuda. We went to hotel to leave our bags and took off to explore Dublin. We strolled along Grafton Street window shopping and seeking the Thai restaurant recommended by the concierge. When we found it the waiter told us to either come back at six (they were closed) or go to nearby Vietnamese restaurant. We chose the latter and soon had our green curries. We found a famous statue of Irish woman, you can tell when you come across something of note by all of the cameras flashing. Dublin is like every capital city in the world, no Irish to be found downtown. When walking along the streets you can ... read more

Today we went to a butterfly house. There were other highlights at this park, bird averies, bird of prey display, farm animal pens, herb gardens, fish ponds but the best part was the jungle for the pretty insects. When I entered the room the hot damp air was difficult to breathe for a few seconds. Soon I was entranced with the foliage and colours. The butterflies flitted happily from exotic bloom to exotic bloom. I took so many photographs chasing the florescent blue ones who would not stay still for my camera. At one point, several butterflies landed on my shirt... read more

Yesterday Ray and I visited one of the Queen's houses, Sandringham House. It rained later in the day, and that kept the crowds away. We walked around the grounds, with me admiring the blooms in September.... read more

Yesterday I went to Kings Lynn to shop for adapter for camera. This was my first visit to the town and it is much like any British town. The High Street has ancient shops alongside Subway and McDonald restaurants. I took lots of photos to use next year in my urban geography class.... read more

Less than a week to go and my mind turns to what I leave behind. I spent the summer in this quiet part of the world. I am lucky to live here, I know. Now the birds are gathering on the telephone wires, getting ready to fly south. People are energetic with the cooler air. Neighbours are chopping wood for winter. Schools will soon open. Everything around me begins the autumn dance yet I pack and clean house and empty my life as much as I can so I am free to travel. A turtle, that is what I am mimicking, as I stuff clothing into a backpack. How will I get by with only this pile of clothes and shoes on my back? How do I make room for the alarm clock, sleeping bag, toiletries ... read more

Today is the day that I should have a reaction to the Yellow Fever needle I got ten days ago. Hmmmmm, do I feel different? or am I thinking myself into some body aches? Not sure... I wonder if some infected mosquito will bite me in Peru and die because I have this serum in my body? I hope so. ha ha ha I like this site; good tip about travel insurance. I get lost reading other blogs and looking at the photos. Pressure is off, to get that perfect shot at all the places that I want to see, because hundreds of people have already been there and taken good pictures. Why, I could hide out in my house and never leave, and make up a travel journal by cutting and pasting these fine ... read more
