As many of you know (and some may not!) I'm back in Chile now, and hoping to continue my studies here and graduate from a Chilean university. The University I'm currently in the process of applying to is called the Universidad De Atacama (or UDA for short), and I plan on continuing with Social Work. James and I both hope to later do our masters in the US (though since he graduates in a couple months, he'll be working for a couple years while I finish school). I will hopefully know next week if the UDA will accept me, and will be able to go on with my plans from there. Who knows how or if this will all work out, but at any rate right now I'm in Chile for a couple months trying to ... read more

Here are some pictures of this summer... which I spent at home working (babysitting and as a lab assistant) and having lots of fun with the visits I had! Early in the summer my friend Louisa came to visit from Germany (we became close friends while she was an exchange student here my junior year) and we had a wonderful time in the two weeks she stayed! This summer I also got to meet up with old friends from summer camp and spend time with friends from home that I hadn't seen very much throughout the year. It was also great working in a lab near my mom's office and to be able to have lunch with her most days! Then, later in the summer James came to visit, his first time in the US!! He ... read more

I am finally getting around to uploading pictures from the trip I took in January to see everybody down in Chile! It was a WONDERFUL trip, and Jon came with me which made it extra fun... it was cool to be able to share my chilean life, family and friends with my best US friend! He took spanish all through high school, and it came back pretty fast when we got there... he struggled at first but by the end he was communicating pretty well on his own, it was fun to be on the other side of watching someone diving into a new language and culture! We spent about three weeks of our winter break down there and it was wonderful seeing everybody... especially James and our new little neices (well not that new any ... read more

Hello all, I know some of you may be wondering about my Chilean friends and family. As I'm sure you heard on the news there was an 8.8 Earthquake southwest of Santiago. According to friends, just recently the president announced 708 dead and more than 400 missing. My friends and family in Copiapo and La Serena, though they felt it and some of the aftershocks were not harmed by it. They lost power for several hours but now have it back. -James was in La Serena at the time and is completely fine, his aunt, uncle and cousins were traveling in Santiago but got news to him that they are ok. -My host siblings from my first host family were all in Copiapo at the time of the earthquake, but there may have been considerable damage ... read more

Hello all! Just wanted to show you all some pictures from college! (although most of you probably have facebook and have seen them anyway) Incase you don't know I'm majoring in Social Work and Spanish at Elizabethtown College, and loving it! I'm living in the dorms and I was put into a temporary quad, but a couple weeks ago they moved the fourth girl out. So the three of us remaining in the room got to re-arrange the room and its looking great now that we have space to get around! (My two roomies are Emily and Kelly) I've got some pictures of how the room is now (just for you Mom!) There are also some pictures of the biiiiiig dogs that Emily and I managed to get a job puppy-sitting, Raf and Barnum. Hope you ... read more

I'll be studying Social Work and Spanish and have already bought my tickets for winter break to go back down to Chile! I can't wait to get to college (orientation made me just want to start right now!) and I also really can't wait to get back down and see James, my Yaya, the family, and all my friends south of the equator :) and I'll have a couple new additions to the family to get to know when i get there in december! ... read more

Just some photos of what I've been up to lately... some from school, a few from parties, the family, my hamster Chicha... etc. by the way, sorry about the lack of updates for a while... aside from some computer and camera problems i think ive really just been kind of getting lost in life here. At this point a lot of the time it doesnt even occur to me to bring my camera places or take pictures because most of what happens is just normal life for me now. plus I've got just a few weeks left and I'm packing a lot in...!... read more

At the end of summer break i zipped down for a few days in santiago (which wasnt nearly enough to see all that i wanted to). I stayed with some friends of Tía Paty that i got to know over the summer, and many thanks to them I got to see a few of the things Ive really been wanting to: *Pablo Neruda´s Santiago house!!! (La Chascona) this was his house where he lived with his lover, and later wife, Matilde, probably the most famous of all of them due to the poems he wrote for her. it was partially destroyed in a political attack, and is the house that Neruda died in shortly after. Matilde preserved a lot of the house and possesions of Pablo Neruda, so it was a very cool look into the ... read more
