North America » United States » New Jersey » Hoboken September 17th 2015

We took our first train ride "into the city". We decided to head to Hoboken first just get out feet wet. I also wanted to see the original Carlo's Bakery. It was cool to see where it all started. We walked the streets and saw all of the places they take about on the show Cake Boss. We then headed to the park where I was able to get awesome shots of Manhattan from across the Hudson River. Next adventure will be to head into Manhattan and see the World Trade Center complexes. Next we tackle the subways.... read more

We arrived in Jackson a couple of days ago. We will hang out here for a week or so waiting for Camping World to get a part in for the RV. A few days ago we went to Marlton, NJ to check out Carlo's Bakery. I have watched every episode of Cake Boss so I was excited to go there. We had a cannoli and a lobster tail. They were very yummy. To top is off, Starbucks was right next door. Next week it's off to Hoboken to see the original Carlo's Bakery. Cross your fingers we run into Buddy!!! Today we went to the Jersey Shore in Asbury Park. We went with a couple we met here in the RV park. She was from this area so she told us some great history about Asbury ... read more

North America » United States » New York » Niagara Falls September 5th 2015

What a great place and we learned a lot about Niagara Falls. First of all Niagara Falls is the city names, not the name of the falls. There is Niagara Falls, NY, USA. Then there is Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. On the US side there is the American and Bridal Veil Falls. On the Canadian side is Horseshoe Falls. Horseshoe is the largest falls, with American being next and Bridal Veil falls is the smallest. While the American side of the Niagara Falls we busy building up their factory industries, the Canadian side was building up tourism. You can tell by the difference in how each side looks and feels. I hope you enjoy the pictures. It was really hard to narrow down which ones I would put on the blog. I think I took over ... read more

North America » United States » Ohio » Port Clinton August 28th 2015

We arrived in Port Clinton, Ohio last week. Our plan was to stay here (Camp Perry campgrounds) long enough to get our cooktop and refrigerator fixed. Joe was able to install a new cook top and all of the frig parts have arrived so it will be fixed tomorrow. Please say a prayer this is our last problems with our RV. We are getting really tired of it, but the manufacturer (Heartland) has bent over backwards to get everything taken care of. Our first adventure here was to travel to Put-In Bay on a catamaran. Of course we picked the coldest and windiest day to go there (high was 63). First we rented a golf cart so we would have transportation on the island. It was a good call on our part. We then visited the ... read more

North America August 20th 2015

We arrived in Wixom, Michigan last week. Wixom is a small town about 30 miles west of Detroit. The trip started off with a bang. While we were traveling a glass light cover fell off and shattered the induction cooktop. Why they would design the kitchen with a glass light cover over a glass cooktop beats me... Thanks goodness Heartland is sending us a new cooktop and Joe can install it. Next great adventure was our refrigerator acting up and not cooling. The diagnosis - needs a new compressor. The repairman is supposed to fix it when we get to Ohio. By the time we are done with all the things that have gone wrong with our 5th wheel we are going to have all brand new parts. Sunday we went to the Michigan International Speedway ... read more

North America » United States » Indiana » Indianapolis August 12th 2015

We have spent the last 3 days at Camp Atterbury just south of Indianapolis. Yesterday we headed north to Indianapolis. First stop was the stadium where the Indiana Colts play. It's called Lucas Oil Stadium and there is evidence all over the stadium who the main sponsor is... We took a tour of the stadium, yes even the locker room of the Colts. Those ice baths they all go in after the games look like they barely would fit me. We went to the top where the press box was and the view was awesome from that point. Joe got excited when he got to go through the tunnel onto the field. They were doing field prep for the upcoming pre-season games so we could only go on the outskirts of the field. It's a pretty ... read more

We finished our last few days in Iowa doing so many things with Patty and Jeff. We visited the Iowa Motor speedway and even got to see the NASCAR car hauler parade. The next day we spent watching Patty do her thing in the kitchen. We traveled a long way to have her lasagna. There are even two trays in our freezer. Yummy. Thanks Patty and Jeff for a great time. We left Iowa heading to Chicago for what was supposed to be 7 days literally on a Lake Michigan beach. The first day we were there we had a major electrical issue that almost caused a fire. After the repair place said they could not fix it, they recommended we drive the 170 miles to Elkhart, Indiana. Elkhart is where the manufacturer is located. So ... read more

North America » United States » Iowa » Newton July 31st 2015

Tuesday we headed the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. They are right when they say they have whatever you need in one place. I rented a scooter (wise move on my part) and Joe walked all. By the time we were done he had walked over 15,000 steps. They have 4 six story parking garages and as you can see from the picture, they are huge If you forget what garage you parked in you are screwed. Lol. The rides were awesome and they have a wide variety of them. The Lego display was so amazing. I took lots of pictures since my grandson, Greydn, loves building with them.. Joe and I decided the only ride we wanted to go on was the Farris wheel, so that was fun. Great view from the top. Another ... read more

We arrived in Minnesota on July 23rd and have been busy checking this area out. We are staying on a SMALL Army National Guard base called Camp Ripley. As you will see from the pictures, the campground is in the middle of the woods and right on the Mississippi river. We can't beat the view, that's for sure. Friday was haircut and nails day. Always a fun thing on the road... NOT. Thank goodness the gal at the campground office gave me the name of two awesome hair and nail people. We also explored downtown Little Falls (town out side of Camp Ripley). We found a great local bakery and have had to force ourselves not to go there everyday... Yea for our willpower. Saturday we went to the boyhood home of Charles Lindbergh. We learned ... read more

North America » United States » South Dakota » Deadwood July 22nd 2015

We decided to go back to Deadwood, SD and check out the town. We were told to take the scenic route so that is what we did.. Amazing waterfalls and huge blocks of granite were seen along the way. The town of Deadwood is an old mining town that has been through it all. The town was totally destroyed by fire then in the early 1900's there was a big flood. We saw a shoot out in the middle of the street where a guy got shot in his forehead. The drama of it all. Wild Bill Hickok was killed in Deadwood and is buried there. Calamity Jane also lived in Deadwood and you know story about their hot romance. She is buried right next to him. The cemetery is at the top of the town ... read more
