07/04 to 09/04/13: Huacachina: The Oasis in the desert near Ica. Huacachina is a village in the Ica Region, in southwestern Peru. It is located in the Ica Province, near the city of Ica in the Ica District. The oasis features on the back of the 50 Nuevo Sol note. Huacachina is built around a small natural lake in the desert. Called the "oasis of America," it serves as a resort for local families from the nearby city of Ica, and increasingly as an attraction for tourists drawn by the sports of sandboarding and taking dune buggy rides on sand dunes that stretch several hundred feet high (we didn't do it). Machu Picchu: 1 night and 2 days in Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu Pueblo is enough. We took the Perurail which offer a Panoramic view. There is lots of places to stay once arrived. Aguas Calientes offers also hot springs (10 Soles) for those with tired legs. We woke up early to catch the first bus to Machu Picchu at 5.30 am. It takes 30 min to arrive to this wonderful Lost City. It was wet, foggy, misty but still fantastic and eye-catching. Brief History: Machu Picchu has in fact been discovered first in 1874 by a German cartographer. Hiram Bingham rediscovered it in 1911. 28/03 to 04/04/13 - Cuzco: Nice town, lots of churches, and paved streets. The main attractions are around Cuzco is to visit the as it is full of Inca sites like Saqsaywaman and not only the Machu Picchu. Lots of museums offer information on the folklore culture, art of the region (boleto turistico costs 130 PEN valid for 10 days). The ticket will allow you to visit archaeological sites and city museums. It is Worth it if you got time. We did the Museum of contemporary art: paintings and ceramic arts from renowned Peruvian of the 20th and 21th century and the Museum of Popular art: Belongs to the American Institute of Art and exhibits sculptures,ceramics..of contemporary Cusco Craftsmen. 21/03 to 24/03/13 - La Paz: The highest Capital in the world ! at 3660 m above sea level and it always goes up ! We did one of the scariest bike ride. We bike through the most dangerous road in the world and we survived ! The landscape is great and the experience is great. We started at Cumbre and went down the main road for 1 hour (Marie was the last one , as she was scared of the speed !). Then started a 2 hour ride on a rocky road between the edge and the mountain, so no escape, if you go too quickly it's either scratching yourself in the mountain or getting over the edge. 12/03 to 18/03/13 - Tupiza - Salar de Uyuni We started our tour for Salar de Uyuni: 4 days trip / 3 nights with Alessandro Adventure Travel. We paid a bit more than through other agencies but the difference was in the fact that we weren't following other fellow travelers or at the same place than other jeeps.
