08/03- 10/03: Salta: After another long bus journey (using Andesmar bus company from Cordoba to Salta), we arrived in this nice little town full of museums and history. Salta is one of the more popular tourist destinations in Argentina, based largely on its colonial architecture and natural scenery. The main Plaza: Plaza 9 de Julio is home to a lot of restaurants and bars but also main museums. We visited the following: ... read more

06/03-07/03: Cordoba / Alta Gracia Was time for us to move on and we said good-bye to B.A to pursue our travel up north. We stopped for a couple of days in Cordoba, second biggest city of Argentina and famous for its universities. A lot of personalities, women and men have been studying here. It is a modern city rich in culture and historical heritage. Been declared the South American Capital of Culture since 2006. We visited Alta Gracia - a little town situated only 30 min away from Cordoba as it has been home to the Guevara de la Sierra Family from 1935 to 1943. The Guevara family were seeking a better location for Ernesto´s (Che Guevara's) asthma and Alta Gracia was famous for its dry wholesome air. Despite his asthma , Ernesto (Che) was ... read more

South America » Argentina » Misiones » Puerto Iguazú February 18th 2013

18/02 to 19/02: Puerto Iguazu Oh it felt soo good to arrive in Argentina, gone were the barbed wire/razor wire/electric fences surrounding properties (which seemed the 'norm' in Brazil) Once we crossed into Argentina we felt a sense of relieve (in that generally we felt much safer - 'a weight was lifted...') The Waterfalls - It takes at least 4 hours to visit the falls on the Argentinian side and it is worth it. There is 3 levels: upper, middle, lower - all 3 give a different perspectives to the falls. Getting on a boat and getting under the fall is quite expensive and you do get super wet! We were speechless. The fall is so powerful, noisy and scary! a great moment and the highlight of the trip so far. Not much to say as ... read more

15-02 to 17-02: Foz do Iguacu Based on recommendation we visited the Dam: Itaipu - created in 1974 and finsihed in 2004. On the border of Brazil and Paraguay, this colossal beast of contemporary engineering ranked among the seven wonders of the modern world. It is One river, Two nations and One dream. South America » Brazil » Paraná » Curitiba February 11th 2013

11-02 to 13-02: Curitiba Renowned for its architectural and urban creativity and an effective transport system: tubular stations, bus lanes, bi-articulated buses. Curitiba is also a green town with a Botanical Garden and lots of parks and recycling spaces. The most important building is the Basilica Minor Cathedral, neo-gothic style with 2 towers and a very beautiful interior. Downtown and historical center is full of color to remember the european influences: portugueses, German, French, Pols... The Botanical Garden is famous for his iron-and-glass greenhouse inspired by the Crystal Palace in London. The garden around is geometrical triangles shapes like in France. The German brought the beer, the french the bread, the Poles were famous farmers and used to sell everything they grow down to the market. The Italians have left some very good pizza. The Ukrainians ... read more

05-02 to 10-02 : Rio de Janeiro Rio is in places a very pretty city and in some places it looks like a bomb site... We arrived 3 days before Carnaval to be able to visit the city prior to Carnaval madness.... However the flow of people in the street and the Carnaval atmosphere was already in full flow...! We went to see the famous Corcovado: it is an impressive piece of Art Deco Style this Christ the Redeemer, Portuguese Cristo Redentor, colossal statue of Jesus Christ at the summit of Mount Corcovado. It was completed in 1931 and stands 98 feet (30 metres) tall, its horizontally outstretched arms spanning 92 feet (28 metres). The statue, made of reinforced concrete clad in a mosaic of thousands of triangular soapstone tiles, sits on a square stone pedestal ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Railay January 10th 2013

Krabi - Railay Beach There is a lot of island to choose from around this part of Thailand which have been made famous as an ideal location for adventurers, yachtsmen, scuba-divers, snorkelers and day-trippers. The West coast of Thailand is truely stunning (the film 'The Beach' was shot at Ko Phi Phi) A beautiful place but now it is rapidly becoming a party Island.. We opted to stay in East-Railay for 10 days bathing and relaxing before heading back to cold UK. (Railay is not really an Island but it is not reachable by road, therefore it is effectively an Island without being an Island because everything arrives by boat....) In January be ready to see prices rise as it is high season, so even a little bungalow can be expensive. Anyhow, we stayed near in ... read more

Asia » Vietnam » Southeast » Ho Chi Minh City December 24th 2012

24 to 25-12-12 : Saigon / Ho Chi Minh city The town still kept some old architecture from the French colonialism but not much left. Saigon is now a big city and promote skyscrapper and investments. The town is divided in districts. We embraced the atmosphere of the city during the festive period of Christmas, full of expat and tourists wondering in this busy city. Lots of motorbikes, scooters, electric bikes in the streets. There is a lot of little alleyway full of little shops, restaurants and hotels. We learned very quickly the best way to cross the road amongst the hundreds of scooters was to walk slow and steady across the road and allow the scooters to avoid you, as opposed to you trying avoid the scooters, sounds crazy but that's the way it works... ... read more
