Along with some of my family, we got a good deal on a mini cruise with Cunard on their beautiful ship called Queen Elizabeth. The ship sailed from Southampton to Hamburg and spent a couple of days at sea. This was the third time that I had ever cruised, but I have to say that I am not cruise mad like some people I know. For me, cruising is about relaxing, eating lots, drinking, being well looked after by the ship's crew, enjoying good entertainment and getting the opportunity to sometimes see several places/countries all in one go. This does sound like a perfect vacation, however, the downsides to this can be the cruise being quite costly itself, along with on-board spending and tipping, plus some port of calls you only get a few hours to ... read more

Africa » Tunisia » Hammamet November 2nd 2014

As the Indian summer comes to an end in England, my brother and myself escape for some winter sun in Tunisia. We had found a good deal through a travel agent which offered 10 nights all inclusive for the price of 7 nights. We decided to go with low expectations on the hotel after reading mixed reviews on TripAdvisor with comments like 'faulty towers' Our first day resulted with a painful early flight which was at 6am and meant a couple of hours sleep for us both. Upon arrival at Tunisia, we found the airport to be slow as hundreds of tourists queued to get past immigration. Although our first time in Tunisia, it was not our first time to north Africa and so we expected to be pestered by locals once we had cleared customs. ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Cornwall » Tintagel September 19th 2014

After meeting up with Dave and Merry Jo D MJ Binkley in D.C. earlier this year, they both inspired me to write blogs on my own homeland. So I have decided to write this blog on Cornwall as it's one of my favourite parts of the United Kingdom, and one of my closest friends lives down there, who I have known practically my whole life, so I try to visit Cornwall at least once a year. The reason I don't visit too often is because the drive to Cornwall from my home is about four hours. But the four hour drive is definitely worth it! Cornwall is a county that is mainly surrounded by sea as its the foot part of the United Kingdom. Cornwall was part of the territory of the tribe known as Dummonii. ... read more

I was starting to feel sad that the final part of my Costa Rica journey was now drawing closer. Even though I had accomplished so many great things on this trip I still was was not ready to be heading home. On the way back to San Jose, Walter and myself experienced a scary bus journey for the second half of trip as we had a crazy driver who would be constantly speeding, getting annoyed with other drivers on the road and often talking on his mobile phone whilst driving. It certainly felt that road safety was not taken so seriously as it is back in the UK. After surviving the bus driver to San Jose, we arrived at the Raddisson hotel. The rating of this hotel is 5 star and, although it looked nice and ... read more

It was an early start so I could take full advantage of the car hire and Kate met me just outside the car rental place in the high street of Samara. The car rental firm were called Alamo and they seem to have locations all around Costa Rica and globally. I had the option to be able to drop the car off at another location which would have been good if I needed to go back to San Jose. Once I had sorted out the paperwork we were good to go. I also decided to hire a Satnav as thought this would come in very handy. I felt quite calm given the fact that I was driving in a foreign country for the first time which meant driving on the right hand side of the road ... read more

After leaving Manuel Antonio the last part of the G Adventures trip was to spend 1 more night in San Jose. For me personally, it had felt that the trip was too short (8 nights) and it was a shame to be saying goodbye to everyone as seemed that the group was all starting to mingle well together. Because we had left Manuel Antonio in the morning it meant that we reached San Jose within the afternoon and had spare time to venture out into the city centre. San Jose does not feel touristy at all, if anything it was a case of spotting the tourist amongst lots of locals. We were advised to stay close together as a group and to be aware of pickpocketing. The city centre has a good selection of shops, including ... read more

Manuel Antonio is situated on the Pacific side of Costa Rica and in the southwest direction of San Jose. I was quite excited that this was our next destination as I had heard that Manuel Antonio is an amazing place to visit. I'm told that the beaches are stunning and it's the perfect opportunity to see lots of wildlife as it has an national park. The day started off with another early start and we had approximately a 4 hour bus journey ahead of us as we headed south from Monteverde. We had only been on the bus for about 45 minutes when we came to a halt. There were workman working on the road. I must admit some of the roads in Costa Rica are in poor condition and we found that these workman were ... read more

Another early start as the group and myself got picked up by a minibus and taken to Lake Arenal. Once we got to Lake Arenal, we jumped onto a boat and were taken across to the other side. The weather was dry, although it was quite cloudy. It did mean that I could see Volcano Arenal slightly better than the day before when it was raining heavily. Once we got to the other side of the lake, we were greeted by another minibus driver who was taken us to Monteverde. But he was also stopping off at a coffee & chocolate plantation on the way. On the bus I kept falling asleep, when suddenly everyone was talking about seeing some monkeys in one of the trees. The bus driver started reversing backwards and then stopped so ... read more

The previous day I took a flight from Washington DC and headed down to San Jose. Once I was in San Jose, I got to meet my Costa Rican friend, Walter, who I had met from Busuu. I did not see much of San Jose as it started to rain, but did see La Sabana Park. I also met and had dinner with my Chief Experience Officer (CEO) and fellow G Adventure trekkers who I will be travelling with for the next 8 days. My first full day was an early start as we headed over to La Fortuna. Once on the bus, I enjoyed looking at Costa Rica’s green and mountain landscape. We first stopped off for some photos of the last waterfall at La Paz. La Paz has many great waterfalls with an animal ... read more

Day 1 I woke up at 3.30am as my flight was an early one. I opted for an early flight so that I could make the most out of my first day in Washington DC. My mum and stepdad picked me up and took me to London Heathrow airport; I could see that my Mum was really worried about me going travelling alone, but I assured her that I’ll be okay. Also mum now has a laptop so she’ll be able to Skype with me whilst I am away. On the plane at Heathrow, I was talking to a lady sat next to me who was English but had been living in DC for eight years and she was telling me some useful tips like using the open double decker buses to explore the city. I ... read more
