Hi All, Sorry I haven't written since yesterday morning. It has been quite busy around here. Today we spent most of the day in the lab. This morning, we analyzed some of the samples taken from the cores we had described earlier this trip. We used the samples to study the amount of carbonate in the sediment. This type of analysis can help scientists to better understand the type of environment the sediments were deposited in. The warmer the waters, the more carbonate the sediment is likely to have. Conversely, the cooler the water, the less carbonate the sediment is likely to have. My core didn't have too much carbonate, as it was drilled from a location in the northern Pacific. We also learned about paleo-magnetism. Over the millions and billions of earth years, the magnetic
