Homestay
The homestay sounds great and that you lucked out with great hosts. I like the sound of the tasting and am trying to decide which one I would like best given the descriptions. I think it would be the final one you sampled. :)

Dancing in Bali
I'd make a beeline for the door if anyone ever tried to get me to get up and dance. Terrifying, and absolutely not my thing. We've been to Bali a few times now, and I remember plastic being a massive issue in the more touristy places years ago. Thankfully they now seem to get rid of this every day with machinery, but sounds like this has been a bit slow to make its way to the more out of the way places, which is really sad. And the way some of these places treat dogs. I love dogs. In Samoa, we were told that when they get too old they take them out into the middle of nowhere and just leave them there. Heartbreaking.

Lovely homestay story!
Great to read of your travels...have been a bit remiss in catching up with you...we are soon off to our three weeks in Sri Lanka so will have to reread your stories from there! Have a great Christmas.

Re: Lovely homestay story!
Lovely to hear from you Meryl. Unfortunately, I think this homestay will be the one we compare all homestays to from now on! Hope you have a wonderful time in Sri Lanka, and have a wonderful Christmas too xx

Sudemen
Thank you for the pronunciation guide. I was wondering how to pronounce Sidemen. The hike through the countryside looks and sounds great. I love that you met Lucy and she became an important part of your trip.

Re: Sudemen
Lucy was such a free-spirited character, and I just couldn't imagine her being happy being confined in a suburban backyard. Even though we realised it wasn't pronounced Side-Men, we occasional tripped up (probably because we were writing it so many times in our notes)! :)

The beating rural heat
This journey is leading you to the beating rural heart of the island. Well done on your open minds and hearts. Bravo!

Re: The beating rural heat
Thank you Chris, you are very kind. We enjoy experiencing the rural life of a place, it allows understanding of another side of life in that country :)

Nearly all the experiences you mention in this blog sound interesting to me. I'm sure I too would have enjoyed the village home visit, sampling food, the walks in town and country, and the cultural performances and music too. I did note the mention of art schools and "Keliki miniature painting’ trend – postcard sized paintings (watercolour on paper)"! I'm fairly certain I would have purchased something like this for a souvenir as I'm a watercolor painting student myself!! Splendid photos, you two!

Re:
Thanks Sylvia. As a watercolor painting student you would have loved that art gallery! The tiny paintings had very skillful fine brushstrokes that even my untrained eye could admire. They were very evocative of that time and place, and couple of people bought some as souvenirs :)

our homestay hosts - ibu and pak dwita

They look like really nice people and I get what you mean. I have never done a home stay program and it sounds like a good experience

Re:
They were really lovely people Jasmin. We have mixed feelings about homestays, but it doesn't stop us from continuing to do them - it's a unique experience :)

Bali
It is nice reading your blogs taking us back to our time in Ubud and other areas. This is a country that has a transformation due to Hollywood and many of the changes are not good from our standpoint. Great food and drink photos.
