People, pets and plantations
You are really getting around. Watch those bats as I don't think they make good pets. Reading this makes we want to brew a pot of coffee.

Re: People, pets and plantations
We felt we got a good sense of Java by travelling from west to east. I decided not to interact with the bat as I didn't know anything about her... but it's very cute that she adopted them all those years ago and is so happy with being around humans all day (she chooses to hang in the fern on the ground rather than be up in the trees). Thanks for reading and commenting Merry :)

Koi
They look hungry.

Re: Koi
This was just after they'd had a massive feeding frenzy... but the mere fact that I was standing there made them excited that more food could be thrown in :)

Chasing sunrise at the volcano
I enjoyed reading your experience. It sounded like one we had in Maui. It was freezing cold until sunrise came and we started back down on bikes. 35 degrees at the top and 80 degrees at the bottom. You showed great restraint not shoving that guy off the wall. Great views.

Re: Chasing sunrise at the volcano
Thanks Merry. I always underestimate how vastly different those microclimates can be! Hahaha Andrew wasn't very impressed with that bloke... some people are great at pushing or manipulating a situation to get what they want! I think the bad tourist behaviour at that viewpoint was highlighted by the fact that we hadn't seen many of them in Java, and it was in stark contrast to how lovely and polite the locals were :)

Always something new to learn about
I admit to knowing next to nothing about this part of the world! I had heard of Yogyakarta but was totally ignorant of Borobudur's existence. It looks and sounds amazing! Your excellent photos and descriptions tempt me to want to see it in person, but I know the intense heat would get the best of me too!

Re: Always something new to learn about
I've found that travel is one of my best educators! Thank you for your lovely comment Sylvia - Borobudur was an amazing experience. I think the heat would have been manageable in a different season, but then we wouldn't have had those beautiful blue skies... :)

Java coffee
I have indulged in innumerable cups of java coffee. Wonderful to see the land it hails from.

Re: Java coffee
I would have loved to see the whole process of coffee production from picking the coffee berry to roasting etc., but sadly, we were there in the wrong season for coffee production. But it was wonderful to see the cocoa pods and taste the seeds :)

Fire mountains
From your title to your closing paragraph, I enjoyed this read immensely. The very definition of travel wonderment.

Adventure awaits
That was a marvellous adventure in a lesser known part of the land. Falling frogs and all.

Re: Adventure awaits
We love our experiences in these types of places that are off the main trail. It us gives a fuller picture of a country :)

I love Borobodur
When I visited Borobodur a young woman came up to me and wanted to practise her English. It was not a scam, she really had no hidden agenda. All she wanted was to practise English. We talked for a while. I had my lunch and we talked some more. She invited me to her home. I got to see how she lives and I said hi to her mother. We had a rather pleasant half day or so together. That's a nice memory. /Ake

Re: I love Borobodur
We do too! That is such a lovely memory. We never came across any scammers in Java - they really were lovely people. Even the taxi drivers were honest and polite. It was refreshing to travel in a part of southeast Asia that isn't flooded with over-tourism :)

A mountain with a bonus
Hello, I really enjoyed your blog. I have always been fascinated by volcanoes, and every time I visit a country where volcanoes can be found, they are always high in my list! For me, they are mountains with a bonus. From your photos, can see that the panoramic views must have been spectacular!

Re: A mountain with a bonus
Thanks for your lovely comment Stephane! The view really was spectacular - volcanoes remind me of the might of nature like nothing else and I can understand your fascination :)
