Bogans?
I think I know what you mean by bogans, but it's not a term we use so I'm not completely sure ... but we've run in to annoying, loud, no respect for the local culture, tourists like that! I know what you mean about some groups simply not gelling very well, but your two loud talkers would have driven me crazy (and who doesn't bring water on a hike??).

Re: Bogans?
I think bogans exist in some form in every country, and it's difficult to fully define the term as we sometimes use it in a self-deprecating and possibly funny or lovable way, but in certain contexts it's definitely a negative descriptor. Hmmm I'm sure you know what I mean about group politics being a funny thing. I suspect that a few of the group had realised that they weren't suited to small group travel but made no attempt to try to fit in or behave better. But we still had a good trip all things considered :)

Flying Dresses??
The "flying dresses" posing and photos are just so bizarre! I've never encountered this phenomenon - I assume instagram created? Still, the rice fields were beautiful.

Re: Flying Dresses??
They are beyond bizarre to me... and yes, I'm afraid it's yet another a trend popularised by Instagram. The rice fields were indeed beautiful :)

Protect your spot!
Wow, your time at Mount Bromo sounded incredible! The part about having to protect your well-earned viewing spots reminded me a bit of sunrise at Angkor Wat :)

Re: Protect your spot!
Hi Lori, yes we loved our Bromo experience and it was totally worth the early start and small discomforts of cold, crowds and dust! Hahaha I had forgotten the drama at the sunrise spot at Angkor Wat - we purposely chose the 'lesser' side off the main path to avoid the crowds and massive tripod wielding types, but there were still people who pushed in or blatantly stood in front of other people's cameras :)

Temples in Sri Lanka
Reading about the intricate details and historical significance of temples in Sri Lanka left me in awe. It's incredible how these architectural marvels have stood the test of time, preserving the country's cultural heritage. Can't wait to immerse myself in the spirituality and serenity of these sacred sites.

Re: Temples in Sri Lanka
Thank you for your lovely comment. Religious architecture can be such an amazing source of information about a country's history and heritage, especially in a deeply religious country like Sri Lanka. I hope you have a very enjoyable trip :)

Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian food
Thank you again for some more interesting facts around Indonesia. I had no idea that Bahasa Indonesia was a language that was created, and no idea that there were different "levels" of language for Javanese and Balinese. And I had no idea about the origin of satay and sambal. Wow! Just like you, I like the proverbs that use food.

Re: Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian food
Hi Katha, thanks for your lovely comment. I find a country's proverbs and legends to be a good insight into its culture - and proverbs that include food are especially interesting :)

Rest & Relaxation
Other than the merciless heat, your time in Sanur at the Pavillions sounds ideal for rest & relaxation! I had to smile, Ren, when you spoke about falling in love with the fish pond at your villa! I'm sure I too would have delighted in watching that pond and fish while I enjoying some down time at the villa. And visiting the Turtle Conservation too -- had a relatively close encounter in the water once with a released turtle on the Big Island of Hawaii and loved it (not allowed to touch them though!!). In addition, a complimentary Foot Bath and Massage would seriously have been right up my alley!! Nice blog!!

Re: Rest & Relaxation
The heat was indeed merciless, but we have wondered if it felt worse than it was because we weren't feeling very well. How lovely to have a close encounter with a turtle! I can imagine your joy. Thanks for your lovely comment Sylvia, and yes I'm still amused at how much I enjoyed watching and talking to those fish too :)

Indonesia
The journey has been very much enjoyed. Your words taking us with you on trains rides, along jungle tracks, up mountains, into temples and through rice paddies. Bravo, and thank you both.
