Geo: 16.978, -100.212Wednesday 25/03/09 At Sea Temps Air 12°C Sea 12°C Hells bells everyone's dressed in fleeces, and sweaters again, there's a cold wind blowing across the ship so everyone's indoors meaning that the ship seems unusually busy and all my normal quite corners and watering holes and now either occupied or to noisy to afford me the peace I usually enjoy. Saturday 28/03/09 Acapulco - Mexico Temps Air 31°C Sea 25°C Well what a difference a couple of days and a few hundred miles makes, I can't get my head around the difference in sea temperatures over such a relatively small distance, even the rapid change in air temperatures takes some getting used to. What an entrance to Acapulco we arrived early around 07:00 and sailed majestically into the wide bay around which the famous ... read more

Geo: 37.7792, -122.42Sunday 22/03/09 At Sea Temps Air 14°C Sea 13°C The C Word - COMPENSATION Since the breakdown of the ship after leaving Sydney there's been nothing but moaning, some of it valid and understandable, for us personally missing the South Sea Islands out of the itinerary was a bitter disappointment but some things you just can't change or influence. When we left Auckland a team of Customer Relations staff boarded the ship and upon entering our cabin information had been left outlining the compensation to be paid for the missed ports and inconvenience suffered. The information provided was ambiguous to say the least so I made an appointment to see the Customer Relations staff to clarify the position, whilst she was very professional the offer as explained by her was whole unsatisfactory and I ... read more

Geo: 21.3069, -157.858Thursday 19/03/09 Honolulu - Hawaiian Islands Temps Air 27°C Sea 29°C Arrived to a hazy start and a slow and very careful approach into the harbour, it's certainly the narrowest of entrances and the tightest we've encountered, with very little room for manoeuvring or error. The berth by the road side with the ship literally facing on to the road, you can go to the foreword observation deck and look into the cars as they travel just below and some couple of hundred metres in front of you. We had the inevitable problems and delays caused by having to negotiate American Immigration. I'm sure the whole process must have a detrimental impact on visitor numbers, for myself after my last couple of experiences I'd never planned to visit the states again, and had serious ... read more

Geo: -36.8474, 174.766Thursday 12/03/09 Auckland - New Zealand (Still) Temps Air 24°C Woke up not a sound, no movement, no rocking, (come on keep it clean I know what you're thinking) yup we're still in port. Having showered we went for breakfast to await the announcement as to what was happening, (a quick look out on deck showed the gangways and all the customs paraphernalia removed) Finally we were informed that the final bout of testing indicated a fault in the oil line supplying the new thrust bearing (are you thinking what I'm thinking?) and it was anticipated that we'd now be sailing around 18:00 subject to satisfactory repairs to the oil line. As we had to be back on board by 16:00 we decided to catch a bus to Takapuna, a little town we noticed ... read more

Geo: -36.8474, 174.766Tuesday 10/03/09 Auckland - New Zealand (Still) Temps Air 24°C I left the cyb@study at 01:00 and when I passed the Crow's Nest bar next door, which is usually quite reserved, with the only noise to be heard being the sound of the either the resident or guest band, but tonight it was in full swing, so I decided not to go for a late tipple, free or not. Today we decided to visit Parnell & Newmarket as well as go back to the Domain to visit the museum, Fernery, and tropical gardens. As we left the ship we were accosted by numerous people wanting to know what was happening, but there was little to tell and so we set off. The museum was an absolute wonder with so many rooms and topics, from ... read more

Geo: -36.8474, 174.766Thursday 05/03/09 At Sea going slowly Temps Air 26°C Headset Harry I thought I'd give you another insight to some of the passengers on board; I've named this person headset Harry. As I've previously said in order to guarantee being able to use the gym's equipment when it opens in the morning you have to start queuing around 07:35 at the latest, and like myself headset Harry is one of the first people there. Without being to derogatory I need to paint the picture I'm faced with most morning, however I in no way wish to ridicule the guy as I think that given his age of 70+ the mere fact that he regularly attends gym is to be encouraged and it's a testament to his commitment. Each morning he attends dressed in an ... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.207Sunday 01/03/09 Sydney - Australia Temps Air 28°C As our intended berth at the cruise terminal was still occupied by the cruise ship Crystal Serenity we were moored just off Shark Island, not far away the Celebrity Cruises ship the "Millennium" was also moored, so with 3 ships in port we knew the city would be bustling. We were due to move into the Cruise Terminal in the evening after the departure of the Crystal Serenity. We were duly tendered off, with the journey to the cruise terminal by high powered catamaran only taking 15 mins, as we passed by the Opera House and approached the Harbour Bridge we were treated to spectacular shots of both iconic sites. We had already decided to spend time most of our time around Botanical Gdns, Circular Quay ... read more

Geo: -27.4676, 153.028Thursday 26/02/09 At Sea Temps Air 28°C Sea 28°C Whilst I written much about what where we've been and the ports visited, and touched on the profile of my fellow passengers but I've missed what may be of interest to some of you, that is what's life like aboard ship. Well a bit of back ground info firs, there's 2 main restaurants which are the ones used in the evening for fixed seating in addition to, one themed restaurant managed by restaurateur Marco Pierre White as well as another smaller more sophisticated open air restaurant at the stern of the ship, both of these restaurants apply extra charges for evening meals only, however the service and cuisine is superb. In addition there's a fulltime buffet restaurant on the 12th deck, a bar / café ... read more

Geo: -20.2605, 148.982Wednesday 25/02/09 The Whitsundays - Australia Temps Air 31°C Sea 28°C Famed as having some of the most beautiful islands in the world, the Whitsundays consist of 74 islands of different sizes most of which feature idyllic brilliant white coral beaches, with to die for translucent blue/green seas just teaming with life of all kinds. Even from the ship we've watched hammer head sharks and turtles lazily swimming by. As you can imagine it's a backpackers paradise and although the reefs all have maximum limits imposed for visitors there's boat trips to the islands for snorkelling, scuba diving, sight seeing, swimming etc. In addition there's also the option for a trip to the pontoons moored out on the reef where you can swim, snorkel, or dive, on the coral reef and be totally blown ... read more

Geo: -19.2581, 146.818Tuesday 24/02/09 Townsville - Australia Temps Air 31°C Sea 28°C Townsville is a bit of an anomaly as there's not much to do here and as it's positioned between both Port Douglas and the Whitsundays which is our next port of call most attractions mean you've got to travel towards one or the other. The one major attraction it does have is the Reef HQ aquarium, which is the only living reef aquarium in the world, and the ticket provides for as many return trips as you like during the day, a boon if you want to return at the many different feeding times. It's a great set up and well worth a visit, and it's obviously a much cheaper alternative to actually visiting the reef, but at the end of the day there's ... read more
