Foreboding weather, abundant wildlife and a few hair pen curves
Glad you had a nice house to stay in for home exchange. What a great way to see the world. NZ is beauty round every corner. Glad you enjoyed the sounds again. Sounds lovely. I was in Queenstown the first time in 1989 and it was a village of about four streets. Times certainly have changed. I was shocked when I was there in 2008. Life moves on.

Penguins
Yes they come back from feeding at sea after sunset . No photos And we had to be silent as they don’t want anything to disturb the penguins . There was lighting so you could see them but it doesn’t disturb them.

No trip in the South Island is complete without a helicopter ride within touching distance of the peak of Mt Cook and landing on soft snow on a glacier. Well done! I think we landed on Tasman Glacier when we did it.

We want to visit New Zealand so bad. We have been thinking about for many years but during the New Zealand summer we have too little time off from our jobs so we can't make a trip for as long as we would like to. One day we'll make it though. /Ake

Wonder yes it’s a wonderful place and so varied . I’m lucky to be here for my third time ... but I was a late starter on this long haul,travel so it wasn’t until I was in my sixties that I had my first trip here . And I think you are a lot younger than me so you’ve got plenty time to plan your future trip !

Earthquakes in NZ
Interesting to read of your return to Christchurch and reliving memories of the earthquake that took place on 21 February 2011 while you were there. I too am saddened from your blog that the Cathedral has not been rebuilt. We heard of an earthquake in Auckland recently but have not heard further so presume any damage was not significant. Like other paradises, New Zealand also has its dangers. Glad you are enjoying the wonderful hospitality of the Kiwis, Lynne.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to be offered a platinum tour or... be able to handle one of these wonderful tours.So happy you were able to meet Dave and Denise. Wendy's bay sounds like a great place for a photo shoot. Glad you are getting in all of your steps. Such a great city.

What a wonderful day we had together Lynne. Certainly makes it worthwhile to take a day off work, see storm cloud skies clear for such a delightful Sydney Spring day. Thank you for contacting me so Denise and I could spend such a memorable day with you...wandering areas that you can only enjoy on a Special Platinum Tour...not for everyone...just for you. Keeping this travel blog enables me to reflect and record my journeys as well as communicate with my family and friends. I shouldn't be amazed me that complete strangers in this travel community will want to read about what I am up to as they are a great bunch of folk. I have swapped my home and hospitality for many years now and always I have met such wonderful open, generous and friendly people. Travelling alone lots of the time I am never lonely ..there is always the travelblog to keep me company. Planning for future trips and onwards now.
