Beautiful VERMONT. I started my trip through this beautiful lush green state at Smuggler's Notch. Camping at the state park was nice and my first time in a lean to. Basically a wooden platform with three walls and a slanted roof. Smuggler's Notch is known for being a path to run supplies to Canada during the war in 1812. The large boulders and tight narrow paths allows travelers a number of hiding space and not be seen. Today there is a very narrow paved road that visitors can drive to the top and back down again, when heading east, you will end up in Stowe, VT. There are a few parking spaces along the road to hike on designated trails. I took the trail to Bingham Falls, because that was the only one I could find ... read more

It is officially been one month since I left home in North Plains, Oregon. August 5th, 2022 I closed up our home, shut off the water, drained the pipes, cancelled the internet blah blah blah. I drove to Seattle to drop don off with a group of his friends and just like a snap of the fingers, he was gone. I sat in the parking lot for while wondering what in the hell am I doing???? After a small panic attack I headed East, and I haven't stopped yet. So here is my one month check in. Granted the first day - first week - was off to a bit of a rough start. The very first campground, on the first day, I arranged to stay at a State Park in Washington and it was closed ... read more

North America » United States » New York » Niagara Falls August 30th 2022

Niagara Falls!!!! I was so nervous driving through the cities, worrying about tolls, somebody honked at me? WHY? What did I do? That was my lane I was in right? At least it's been raining all day. I threatened myself with driving right through and not seeing the falls. Absolutely not possible. I overcame all of my fears, pushed other peoples perception of me to the side, gripped the steering wheel with both hands and forged on. I have Oregon license plate people...give me a break. I parked, bundled up in a raincoat, baseball cap to protect my glasses from the rain, wore shorts and flip flops. Once I got closer to the falls, I saw many people in the same outfit as me. It's a Niagara thing, be prepared to get soaked! I could see ... read more

Awwww family. I have just spent the last few days with my Aunt Val and Uncle Mike. Their two daughters Lucy and Marie were in and out as they were preparing to leave for the school year. My first 24 hours in MI was not impressive. Going north from Green Bay WI to the Upper Peninsula (The UP is what the locals say) I hit solid sheets of rain. Visibility was mere yards so I was unable to see the beautiful sights Val has told me about. Apparently it is the most beautiful part of the state and where many go to vacation. I will have to try it again on another trip in the future. I did stay at Kayla and Michaels, Val and Mike's friends, lovely wooden cabin on Lake Superior. They were gracious ... read more

My birthplace; May 10th, 1971, The Dells, Wisconsin. I have been told the story many times in varies forms and truth versions about my Father and Mother marrying and moving to WI where my dad helped build a building for the World Wide Church of God, the Feast of Tabernacle building in The Dells. My parents divorced when I was very young and I don't remember them ever so much as being in a same room together. In the years I have idolized a time in WI when they were young, in love and I was a newborn...everything was perfect. In reality, if it were perfect, they wouldn't have divorced so soon. It was emotional for me to enter the state that has always been a word I fill out on a document or see on ... read more

South Dakota has been overall an amazing experience. The National Parks offered sights I have never imagined to be possible. To conclude my days in this state, I visited The Corn Palace in Mitchel, SD. This building has been around for long over 100 years. Every so often they change the design of the building using corn, corn husks, silk and stalks of all varieties for color variances. The building is free to enter, has much history and interesting facts. It was an enjoyable stop, in a very cute city. While banking in Mitchel, the teller told me I should check out St. Peter's Rock Grotto in Farmers, SD and De Smet, SD for top notch Laura Ingalls Wilder experience. I quickly added them to my route. Closest is Farmers and only 4 miles off the ... read more

Another fun packed day in one of our beautiful National Forests. I entered Custer State Park with three primary locations on my todo list. 1. Wildlife Loop Rd. 18 miles long. 2. Iron Mountain Rd. 17 miles long 3. Needles Hwy. 14 miles long. I hit all of them even did the Wildlife Loop Rd. twice. That is also where I started my journey today. At first I was not impressed. The terrain was large fields of grass with small hills (not mountains) far in the distance and no animals to be seen. I carried onto the Needles Hwy. which was a very nice drive, beautiful scenery and it took me to Crazy Horse Monument, Mount Rushmore and Iron Mountain Road. Crazy Horse is an unfinished carving depicting the legendary Oglala Lakota warrior, Crazy Horse. It ... read more

North America » United States » South Dakota » Rapid City August 16th 2022

After all that hiking at Badlands National Park, I drove into Rapid City for lunch and a walk. I chose The Firehouse Brewery because I love fire stations (and I had a 1/2 off coupon from the visitors centers). A 12z stout and loaded nachos just about put me to sleep right at the table. I was up at 3:30 a.m. to catch the sunrise and did many hikes in the sun today. The décor is top notch, the beer is great but a small selection and the food is HUGE. Before I actually do sleep on the table, I took off for a hike to see the presidential bronze statues in the downtown area and art valley where graffiti is a form of art and encouraged. Rapid City was kinda bigger than I thought, it ... read more

This past few days I visited Devil's Tower in Wyoming. The tower of vertical cracked rock is over 1200 feet, has almost 2 miles of paved walking paths surrounding the base, and you can even climb it! I choose not to, but it is an available option. The tower can be seen for free from a distance on the roadside. After driving that far, I'll be damned if I'm not taking a closer look at this rock. I was actually very surprised at how interesting and beautiful it was. Many people tie ribbons and pouches on nearby trees for prayer. I don't understand that, but it sure looked neat. The temperature was nearly 100 degrees that day in the late afternoon. I completed the hike, missed my turn to go back to my car and almost ... read more

WOW what an incredible week! I was camped out for 3 days and 2 nights trying to get Road to the Sun tickets and finally got them. I arrived at Glacier National Park at 5:40 a.m. to beat the traffic of RV'ers. GNP did not let my hard work and efforts down. Large mountains, clear lakes, abundant wildlife and spectacular views in every directions. I pulled over countless times to enjoy the views, breath the fresh air and take lots of pictures. The colorful rocks of Lake McDonald are about equal if not a bit less brilliant than those found at Flathead Lake. Still amazing though. I was sure to stop off and enjoy some of the hiking trails that were between 1-3 miles each. On one of them I heard some rustling in the bushes. ... read more
