Thank you for the inspiration Pierre,
I can't believe it's been 11+ years since we had that drink in Puerto-Rico.
Your travel stories, lifestyle and personality inspired me to explore our beautiful planet.
6 continents & 93 countries later - thank you my friend.
Would love if you can email me, and maybe one day I will get to buy you a drink on another exotic island. I still owe you a drink.
Thank you for the drink, and the inspiration.

Home Are you passing by our home on your trip in South Africa? We are 130km South of Durban...even if not much at home lately! More diving blogs to come!
It is amazing how fast time has passed!!! I think I've been following you for most of those 11 years, and even had the pleasure of meeting you at the Denver airport in the middle of one of your marathon journeys. Keep On Blogging!
Thanks a lot for your kind words Bob! I hope your wife is doing way better. I'm just out of 10 days with zero internet connection, trust me, it feels great! Just late on something like 4 blogs....it's a small world! Yes times fly and I remember very well our dinner at Ted Turner. I realize I'm a lucky guy, my global wishlist is getting shorter by the month!
Both Worlds The Salar in it's magnificence...one World driving across the dry salt...another World driving across when in flood risking never to return (due to corrosion breakdown and that GPS does not function on the Salar)...magic. You appear to have tried both, Peter! By the way what program do you use to process your pics?
love this place... I have to admit, I may use a little too much the HDR Landscape mode on my Pentax. I found out about it with the guide while visiting Antelope Canyon in the States. There is zero photoshop on all these pics afterward. It's just so much fun, if not clearly a little unreal in many pictures!
Could this be coral? We visited a number of areas along the edge of the Salar that were coral formations from the Jurassic Period uplfted by the development of the Andes. Do you recall if these formations included evidence of that? Some formations were clearly fossilised coral forms.
Follow that Road We followed the Dakar Rally through Bolivia in 2015...no tourists for 5 days...'cos we had a private tour! . We also altitude acclimatised before hitting Bolivia as we were bitten in Tibet and know how altitude sickness can reduce the joy. Guess that's the risk entering Bolivia from Chile which has to be the biggest hill climb on the planet. We did that road downhill not uphill so we know!!! Really interesting to see these stunning areas in snow, Peter. We did it in summer. Makes me want to do Bolivia again in Winter as the only snow on volcanoes for us was in the altiplano of the Atacama Desert in Chile. I've posted some of your pics in Follow that Road thread in the Photography Forum.
Trust me...pretty rare occurence... No travel agent was making money that week as they had to juggle with the changes...Cordillera were pretty amazing at it....but wait for Uyuni Salar picks...we missed the geysers...but we had something special at our next stop...and as said, it was my second visit, so I was all at a win...seeing new places! Love this place, big time!
Atacama Altiplano Chile is expensive compared to the rest of South America Peter, but hey, one comes prepared for that. As you are going into the Atacama Altiplano I hope you are opening your wallet and I'll be interested to see if they take you where tourists usually do not go like they did for us. Enjoy.
We did! Due to some heavy snow, we had to change the itinerary...meaning, discover places I hadn't seen before....with a great agency! Few blogs to come on it!
Wow!!! And you are right about the high cost of flights. Just Guam to Truk R/T is $753. I've been to Guam, but that's a close as I will ever get to Truk!
Have you been to San Marino? That's one I've overlooked and will correct that coming this September. I still have a few in Eastern Europe to visit, and will do so when Linda is able to travel with me.
Hi Bob! Yes, did San Marino, the old city is a really cute place to visit. Even done Kosovo and Moldova! Writing this...on very slow internet from...Chuuk!
This blog is just short of 10 years old. We have now move to South Africa.
Why South Africa? Simple, great wine, great food, great golf and even more amazing diving! I will for once continue to blog from time to time about home. After all, this is just my fourth continent after having grow up in Europe, lived in Asia for twenty years, and even spent a full year living the life of Buenos Aires.
Come to visit....there is so much to do here! ... full info
