Again?! Oh wow! Yes you are lucky!! I haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing Socorro once, Even though I live in Cabo San Lucas now. I will continue to enjoy your dive pictures and dream of the day I too can go out. Congrats on your 1400 dives, that is an amazing feat in itself!
Great underwater pics We have just returned from Manta Ray Heaven on Lady Elliott Island on the Great Barrier Reef. I haven't checked my Go Pro yet but reckon my pics will not be as good as your's.
When small is magnificent Love this shot Peter. May 2023 be a great year for you and your family. 10 years coming up since we met at Travelblog's 10th B'day in KL. All the best from David & Denise.
Petra... Our only visit to Petra was in De 1978. We took a taxi from Amman with a crazy driver. At the time there were no hotels, no visitor center, no entrance fees, no tourists, nothing. We paid a few dollars to ride a horse, which just confirmed that horses world-wide hate Linda. I miss the good old days of touring!
Petra.... This is why I'm very happy we did the most of the Covid years. I, today, have the feeling that we did truly enjoy the experience. Imagine what 2023 will be when it comes to amount of people on tourist sites...and let's not even start to think when our Chinese friends will be able to travel freely again...
Absolutely fantastic!!! I was only able to visit the pyramids around Cairo so sure missed out. I really enjoy following your travels...luxury on a budget.
It is a sad day... Thanks for sharing your personal experience. You stated "One that I shall call home from now on and in the future." I thought you would live in South Africa for the rest of your life! Anyway, Back in 1998 I had business in Russia...cleaning up nuclear waste in the Kola Peninsula. I worked with the Russian (and Norwegian) military, some who had previously worked at Chernobyl to contain the radiation. Everyone was so hospitable. A lieutenant colonel and his wife took me on a tour of the Kremlin on our day off. I just hope you are correct that culture and civilization will prevail.
Thanks for the memories... I remember those grey days of winter from when we lived there from Jul 1984 to Nov 1995. I will be transiting Brussels for two hours on Sep 4th between Edinburgh and Stockholm...not enough time to make it into the city for moules, waffles and chocolates. I will have to rely on airport restaurants and shops. Last time I transited, I had less than an hour so had to go immediately from one gate to another. Passing those chocolate shops was painful! I look forward to reading your blogs about this trip
Belgian food The airport is actually pretty nice these days. I'm sure you'll have some times for some food around. We headed straight to the lounge...and even there, they had chocolate testing stations, local nice beer and few nice local specialities. I know you can get waffles airside too, not sure about the mussels!
Thank you for haring your experiences in Syria! My husband is from Aleppo but unfortunately we didn't meet until after the revolution began.
I remember how devastating it was to see how the beautiful old souk in Aleppo was damaged and even though my husband's sisters who still live there say that some of the shops have reopened, it is not the same.
His family's homes are near the Citadel and were damaged by bombs dropped on them by the regime.
I am hoping to someday visit Syria with my husband but life has not been easy there for some time and it is way worse now.
Thank you for letting me see his country in better days through your eyes!
Walvis Bay G'day. Been discreetly following your blogs for a while now. Thanks for posting about the situation in SA. Was in Walvis Bay about 4 years ago and wasn't impressed. If you haven't already discovered him, you might like to read this guy's blogs: [blogger=118034] (Timgray). Also from SA and very observant about what is going on at the moment.
Great idea! That's a nice idea for each of your anniversaries. And these are some gorgeous, memorable photos. I also loved Namibia during the pandemic - even more isolated than usual, but you feel like you're also back to normality in a way.
I like your idea of celebrating each anniversary in Tanya's wedding gown... Just like those who were in uniform, it is an incentive to keep the weight off! Of course, you should also wear the same clothes from your wedding. Namibia is starkly beautiful.
Same shirt!! You cannot even imagine the challenge it was for Tanya to have a Taylor made wedding dress in Seychelles at the time. Forget about ordering online, airport had been closed for weeks!! I still wear the same shirt, but was happy to change the trouser. Back a year ago we decided to put the effort on Tanya outfit....and I did with what I had in my limited wardrobe there....challenging it was! Specially for a guy who has a solid suit collection that he hasn't wore for years!!
Northern Cape...... Steeped in stark, semi-desert beauty, the Northern Cape province is the largest of all the South African provinces and the most sparsely populated. ... In the desert, black-maned Kalahari lions and quirky quiver trees eke out a living on the scorching plains
Sounds like the perfect life... and you are looking ahead 30 years, too! I recall our conversation at a restaurant near the Denver International Airport along those lines...looking and planning for the future.
Sensational Hippo Heaven This is the shot most of us can only dream of Peter...sensational...5 stars hardly do it justice!!!!! May 2021 be a happy and safe one for your family.
Happy New Year!! Well....this is the place to see them open their big mouth! Saw it at least 10 times....to do this, only on last cruise of the day. If you are in town after 9pm....the hyppos will roam the street....
This blog is just short of 10 years old. We have now move to South Africa.
Why South Africa? Simple, great wine, great food, great golf and even more amazing diving! I will for once continue to blog from time to time about home. After all, this is just my fourth continent after having grow up in Europe, lived in Asia for twenty years, and even spent a full year living the life of Buenos Aires.
Come to visit....there is so much to do here! ... full info
