So the lovely Debs and Garry have been here for the last 2 weeks, Deborah has been here before, she then went home raised money and returned to build the boys a library... So 2 days ago we were at the lets decorate stage... YAY Chai (tea) on tap, paint brushes in hand we gleefully set about decorating as if it were a leisurely Sunday afternoon. I say we... Debs, Garry, Jamie and Grace had all started a day before however I was some what busy so unable to help. So I swanned up on Wednesday morning to paint the rays off the sunshine :) Such an amazing day and we got a lot done, 2nd coats needed but on with the floor paint :) 12 hours to dry painting at 6pm no problem... except the ... read more

There are currently 2-3 Panya (mice) running around my room! They are noisey to say they are so small! Just been watching the Kenyan dance show the boys all love sooo much, so much fun, hugely making me miss dance though! So we are now into the Long Rains here... its amazing, the view plus the lightening and really heavy rain is just so much fun to watch. Luckily the heavy rain is at night so far. Hilarity on night one of the rain as the ceiling is not so waterproof! Seriously believe Alice's snap call of 'thats good I wanted the top bunk' is being regretted, at the point she needed an umbrella in bed! But room rearranged and me wandering round being terribly British and placing buckets of various shapes, sizes and volumes under ... read more

My last blog entry was published in a hurry as a bug the length of my middle finger casually flew in the window, leaving Alice cowering on the sofa like a small child, whilst Erick (the 4 year old at Sure 24) was actively chasing the bug trying to hit it with a load of pencils. Finally managed to catch it in a jar and put a piece of paper over the top, although I was scared it was going to eat its way through the paper/ sting me through the paper! As it turns out a 12 year old boy killed one and caught it in a tissue yesterday (shown up again massively). Internet access is a bit scarce/ expensive so hence the delayed blogging but since my last post we have; Milked the cows... ... read more

Yesterday was my birthday, it will definitely be one to remember. Up at the crack of dawn and off to Lake Nakuru National Park for SAFARI :) So I spent my birthday with Alice, Phil the driver here, Ann- the most lovely woman ever, also works at Sure 24, our guide Miriam as well as flamingos, pelicans, rhino, giraffe, lions, water buffalo, impala's... you know the usual birthday gathering! Also visited a lovely hotel in the game park, for some lunch and swimming. Luckily the last meal I had before upset stomach take 1 was a good one! After a good 8 hours of safari fun, tanning unevenly through the car windows and various hilarious photos as well as some arty animal shots obviously, we came back to Sure 24 to find all the boys sat ... read more

Today's school adventure included me and Alice teaching an R.E lesson about the birth of Jesus, singing Silent Night in March (please let that be bad luck, it was for educational purposes) helping with a spelling competition and looking out of the classroom door into a rather large and close fire that started in the dry grass... Katharine and Jojo decided that making the boys spag bol for dinner was a good plan, it turned into a LONG day for them slaving over a fire in a very smokey kitchen! But it was a success, good to have some familiar food and the boys loved it. Everything we needed to feed 50 people for about a tenner... Jamie Oliver eat your heart out these ladies have en mass cooking down to a T! The boys loved ... read more

So the things begining with A was the idea that this was with a trip to Africa and Asia with Alice... now I may need to add AMAZING.... Been at Sure 24 for less than a week and seen so much. The boys here are all incredible, so happy and all legends in their own right, form the 4 year old all the way up to the older boys! Personal highlights- getting an impressionable 4 year old saying "Dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty..." and then "do it like a dude" to cute for words! Being asked how many kids I have? Being asked if I stayed in Kenya for long enough would all my freckles join up and would I turn black? If I set up an African church in Britain would I be arrested for the ... read more

So I'm sat here the night before I leave... I have already realised I packed a serious lack of underwear so hastily threw some in on the top of my rucksack. The rucksack that is of course totally manageable when its on my back, it's just getting it from the floor to my back thats the issue. Could probably crouch down and get it on but I think my legs would have serious issues and I would lose some dignity if I fell flat on my face whilst just trying to pick up my bag... On the plus side I can legitimately banish my blackberry to the box of shame (left on my desk in a box with my paper work and pairs of 3D glasses) to think about its current behaviour and give it 6 ... read more
