Now I´m at Lost & Found Eco Hostel in the La Fortuna Reserve. I´ve started toing the check in reservations so I´m sure I´ll have all theirinfor memorized soon. Lost & Found is a little too slow for me to stay at forever, but for now it is great. It is an Eco-hostel on the side of the mountain. I´ve been pulling weeds, and checking people in and out. The hiking is great, except when it is to the bathroom. I don´t like going several hundred feet to the toilet. Rocky the rescued kinkajou is AMAZING. I sleep in the dorms with some of the other guests and volunteers. It is not your average dorm room. You walk in and there are 3 layers with a total of 15 beds. They form a U shape. Volunteers ... read more

I have such a terrible memory , I need to make sure I blog more. Since Santa Elena: I went to Poas Volcano, an active volcano that is constantly emitting sulfuric gas. It was a nice afternoon trip. I left San Jose for the last time (as far as I know) and headed to Puerto Viejo. I started with this German chick, and on the bus I met a very entertaining Tica, who gave me advice on Puerto Viejo. I also met an Irish woman, Orla, who decided to stay at Pagalu (hostel) with us. The hostel was really nice, it kind of felt too nice, like it was out of my budget, but it was $10 a night. We went to the national park outside of Puerto Viejo, it was forest that bordered the ocean, ... read more

I'm going to keep it short because I need to pack, shower, and sleep before I catch my 6:30 am bus to San Jose. As people reading my facebook may have seen I'm going to try to make it to Carnival in Panama City. It starts the night of the 12th, so that's a LOT of bus in a little time. Since Quepos: I spent a night in San Jose. It was the first time I met really friendly people at the hostel I've been staying at. They have my bag so it has been convenient, but I should switch hostels. I met a woman from NYC who was heading to Santa Elena also so we took a bus together, stayed at the same hostel, and hiked in Monteverde together. I'm staying at Pension Santa Elena. ... read more

It is SO HOT. I know I'm from Florida but I can't take this heat and humidity. On my bus to Manuel Antonio I started talking to the woman next to me on the bus. She is German, my age, and owns a surf shop in Quepos, the town next to Manuel Antonio. When we got there it looked cute so I got off there instead, which was probably a good choice because Manuel Antonio doesn't really have a town just a street that goes over a mountain and to the beach. Quepos has at least 5 streets. I am staying at Pura Vida Hostel which is the beginning of the mountain. Yesterday afternoon I walked around with a British guy I met from the hostel. There is a nice fruit market Friday nights and Saturday ... read more

After an early night last night I finally left San Jose! Daryl, a woman I met on my last trip to Panama, invited me to come stay with her. She lived in a little city about an hour outside of San Jose by bus. It is a cute little town, not too hot, not too cold. I'm very surprised bye the lack of insects. Daryl lives with 4 other women. They all are getting masters degrees from the University for Peace, a UN mandated school on the middle of a mountain. The students mainly live in Ciudad Colon so school buses (yes the same ones we have) come on a schedule. There are 200 students from 60 countries. The campus is beautiful, very open with lots of fans. There is the Peace Park with everything from ... read more

Today I woke up some ridiculous time like 6:30 am. I spent the first half of the day wandering around San Jose. It was much better than I remembered, and expected (no dead guys this time). The downtown is very walkable (except that I was breaking in my new shoes and have blisters). There are several portions of streets that cars cannot drive on. At least two open markets. Of course there were the usual areas that smell like pee. There was not tons of trash. I saw an area for recycling too! The hostel isn´t in nearly as an accessible area as it was made out to be, but it is walking distance. My favorite meal of the day was a fried plantain with grated queso fresco (a type of fresh cheese) in sprinkled on ... read more

Ana was nice enough to bring me to the airport at 7 am. When I reached the front of the check in line the woman asked about how I was leaving the country, since I had no return ticket...oops. She left me at the desk to while she spoke to her supervisor Needless to say this FREAKED ME OUT. I told her I had reservations on my computer (not true), so she let me proceed. The flight from Tampa to Fort Lauderdale was not full, no problems. The flight to San Jose was jammed packed. Since Spirit Air is super cheap no bevererages or anything is free. The flight was mostly white Ameicans. None of the flight crew spoke Spanish. Everyone could have been from Sarasota (slightly dissapointing). I took the cheaper option and found a ... read more

3.5 days left in Sarasota 1 in Tampa. Before I leave I need to: feel better, pack, clean houses, print exit info, decide about turtle project, see friends, help mom with classes, get Courtney to fix my computer, anything else I've forgotten. I'm an exciting blogger aren't I? ... read more
