Ken Paynter

Hello my name is Ken Paynter and I'm embarking on an adventure of a lifetime! I'm moving to Alaska for a few months (maybe longer - who knows?) and I wanted to share my journey with you!

I don't know why I'm always amazed at how God can teach me things through the toughest times in my life and it be exactly what I need. He really does know what I need at the most appropriate time. I shouldn't be surprised after all he IS God! Thank you Lord for constantly reminding me of this fact! You are always here and I'm the one who continually has to struggle to come back to you. I've spent way too much time in my life trying to be "something" that I'm not. Trying to be what the "world" tells me I need to be but the reality is I'm a child of God and I don't belong to this world. "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of ... read more

I have often wondered about the phrase “If life gives you lemons then make lemonade” and what it means exactly? After the recent events of the past few months of my life I think I’m beginning to understand. I have had no choice but to “deal” with the blows that have been distributed my way. My choices were few but very evident. I could either learn to roll with them or try my darndest to fight it somehow. Fortunately, I’ve lived long enough to know that fighting it just prolongs the inevitable. If there is a lesson to be learned here it is best that I go ahead and allow it to happen instead of fighting it. In the end the result is the same, it’s the time it takes to get through whatever lesson is ... read more

I'm fairly new to this "blog" thing but not so much to living spiritually as a Christian. I have had my struggles and longer than I am proud of moments away from the Lord but I can still spot spiritual warfare when it hits. I think I've managed to focus some attention to myself in this blog. Sad to say, it's been a long time since I've felt this but nonetheless I cannot deny its existence. Let me share with you what has happened. In my adventure here to Alaska and "finding myself" here lately, I have had some pretty amazing revelations and moments of clarity. Before I left on my journey I was blessed by my aunt and uncle with a laptop computer. This was to be one of my tools I was going to ... read more

I have often thought that once you get to a certain point in your life, one ought to be able to look back and trace the steps that led them to the place where they are now? Well I’ve been doing this and have come to the conclusion that I must have lost my brain somewhere through the last 5 years! Seriously! When I go through the events dating back 5 years ago to now I am shocked at how stupid and juvenile some of the decisions I have made have been. Another thing I have been thinking about lately is the “legacy” or the “life map”, as I like to refer to it, that I have been leaving behind. Think about something for a moment. If your life were to end right now what kind ... read more

In the offset that I failed to mention before, I have moved from a heavy populated city of Atlanta Georgia to a small town in the middle of nowhere population +/- 2,000 people, called Delta Junction. No, it’s not the name of that cute cartoon we all used to watch as kids, that was “conjunction junction”. This is a small town smack dab in the middle between Fairbanks and Anchorage Alaska. As one could imagine there is but little to nothing to do around here but work and watch the moss grow under the Black Spruce (which as I have been told makes a great topping to a roof! Who would have known?) I’ve learned that in these parts most of the work is shift work and seasonal. My uncle, for instance, works a job where ... read more

Ok so I've had my fill of flying for a good long time (hopefully)! My 3 legged flight was more exhausting than I could have imagined! I started out leaving from the Atlanta Airport at 4pm EST on the first leg of my journey to Denver Colorado. The flight was 3 1/2 hours long which wouldn't be so bad except I was sitting in the very last seat just in front of the lavoratory and next to a single mom of 3 lovely small children! Note to self...if I EVER have children no flying should occur until they are old enough to sit still quietly!! (Just sayin...) I obviously haven't flown in a good long while because I don't remember having a flight over 3 hours and not being served some kind of snack! We did ... read more

Have you ever been in a place in your life where you really have no idea what you are doing or even how you got where you are?? Well, that's me at this very moment! I have always been a fairly stable person with a somewhat rational head on my shoulders. Always had very stable jobs, nice cars, nice places to live. Imagine losing ALL of these things within a matter of months!! One might think..."what the heck are you doing wrong?" or "man you are really having a run of bad luck!" I say, "Ok God, what are you trying to show me here?" Since asking that question I have found that "YES" God is indeed trying to show me something. Not quite sure yet "WHAT" He is showing me but I am indeed "IN ... read more
