You folks doing any work over there ? or is it just one big holiday?
Envious ev here...... working life is taking it toll .... yah for more holidays!!
Johno... nice pics your starting to get the hand of hadling that lens !
hey dad hey dad, yeah Jono does make a good laid-back aussie bbq chef. Looking fwd to seeing you guys over here and playing in the sun too. We might catch up with Colin and Julie again later in the summer. See what happens.
Great to hear about your meeting up Great to hear you've met up with Colin and Julie. That and getting called into work explains the few days without a Travel Blog update. I check it every day. Maybe I'll get an RSS Feed from there when I work out what all that high-tech stuff actually means.
Johno looks like a laid-back Ozzy BBQ chef there. Just like a summer arvo on the back deck. It turned so cold here in Oz overnight I'm starting to look forward to spending some time soaking up the Canadian summer. Those earlier ice and snow pics, pretty tho they were, weren't super-endeering me to the climate.
Do you get to see Colin and Julie later, or when they come back?
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
The Burgess Shale and the pre Cambriam Explosian Hi Dahna and J. Thanks for your stories and photographs : a treat to review. We had lunch with a friend from Vancouver during the week. It co-incided with his Mother's funeral, so a bit weepy, but Vancouver from him sounds as good as from you.
Here it's cooling down - the spring suit is required in the ocean now. There has been some surfing, esp at Wairo, but not like those photographs of Martin's on your blog, D. You had one large one, then there were 3 in the 'many pics' collage. Could you post the others please- I'd like to have a good look. It must be of that break near Turos, or at Murramarang?
We had an afternoon at J's paternal grandmother , that would be my mother, on Sunday. Richard had to turn 60 and retire from 40 years of working. 60/40 is not a bad ratio, and it gets better from now on.
J., on anzac day I got out my Dad's Service record you thoughtfully copied for me, and had a minute's silence. As I was alone all morning, a minute's silence was just one of many. I also gave a thought for Martin, closest of us all to Turkey, and to Romel's North African coast.
All the best, David.
RAD that looks a) so cold b) so much fun c) something better than sitting at work
Canada seems like such a cool outdoor playground, theres nothing like that back here.. just roos and paddocks and bush and... nah the Blueys rock.
Missing yas. x h
snow shoes! wow... those things on your feet are amazing. now i understand why they have those send-ups of people with tennis-rackets stuck to their feet. it's just little things i see and read on your journal that makes it seem like you're in such a different world. it looks amazing.
What a journey! Hi Dahns - we have a new computer now and I have been able to journey through your last 6 journals! What great entertainment they are! Some fab pictures and good joles, too. I laughed at the trees/ no trees comparison - goes to the heart of humanity really there are only 2 types of people, tree people and no-tree people. Seems to me too that there must be a lot of sunshine coaches in Vancouver and they are doing a good job because the sun is finally learning how to shine again! Muma sends her love but I definately will NOT tell her about you climbing the Banana Peel. Oh, and I loved the pic of yellow flower, with snow. Thanks for all the stories I am lapping them up!!!
Hi Hey guys.
Well i have finally got around to reading all your blogs and also martins and Kris and now i cant see straight.
Congrats on your job Dahna and hope yours is going well jono. Hope all is going well and the weather is getting alot better.
Love you both.

heya Hey Clare! Yeah - I have been meaning to drop you a line for a while. Life just gets away sometimes. Thanks for dropping in! So, sounds like your cooling down has not passed over with our 'warming up' yet. tehehe. We are still hovering around mid-teens ;-) No water though, huh? sigh. Wish I could send some over from here.
Catching up It's been a while since I checked in on your blog, so it's been very interesting reading what you've been up to. You're right about it getting cooler here, but not that cool - still no frosts and temps in the high teens and low twenties! No rain either, stage 4 restrictions (no watering with tap water) looming. They're now saying it might rain tonight though. Yay for working in retail, but sorry it doesn't pay. Miss you here.
bayden powell yeah - he was the guy that started the scouts. Actually, I think I spelt it incorrectly - should it be Baden Powell? - and, I don't know what significance he has in this part of the world. Good question - 'cause I thought he was British. mmm... actually, I know very little about him. tehehe. And yes, the run was worth it - my ankle is mostly better now. xx
bayden powell? was bayden powell the guy that founded scouts? i wonder what significance he has to that track and that part of the world more generally... (apart from causing injuries!).
sorry to hear about the ankle, but that forest looks AMAZING, was it worth it? (almost)?
ratz Goddam moss, doesnt it know when to be slippery and when not.. The Chief aint going anywhere, but i feel for your frustration. Craft it up instead chicca.

Teleport the wobbleboard Ah if only I could teleport the wobbleboard to you Dans. Norm and I have been using it while I'm on phone for balance and exercise strengthening. For those not used to our family lingo. "teleport' refer to Star trek and before that Blakes Seven and probably elsewhere as well. And the wobbleboard is our family nickname for our Ankle Injury Rehabilitation Device.
heya hey mum. We did know that ABC had the cricket, but you had to pay for it if you wanted to stream it outside of Australia, and we are cheapskates. I, for one, didn't want to listen to it enough to pay ;-) I also knew that ABC is right into the podcasting thing - but for some reason hadn't thought to explore it. Thanks for the reminder! xxx
yes yes yes hey mum - couldn't agree more. And yeah, I was thinking either Ian Lowe or Peter Singer would be good. Ian Lowe probably more so. Maybe we should send a copy of the Vancouver sun front page to the editor... mmm... I like it. They are making it smaller, huh? Guess that was on the cards. Are they investing more online, I wonder.
Happiness is priceless! Who cares about quals and pay scales - these are just artifacts of mere humanity that are meaningless when they are lined up in front of happiness!
Glad you like the job Dahns - sounds like you might capture in learning more than what you will forgo in dollars.
We heard a talk recently given by Ian Lowe - President of the Australian Conservation Foundation - an excellent speaker - just the right person to edit the SMH. By the way, when you return to Australia, the SMH will not be the traditional broadsheet size- will be shrunk to somethin smaller (not tabloid though).Love MUM
What about radio?? Hi Dahns - ABC radio does live streaming to the internet. Maybe shoud try to find out more about it to get sport coverage?? On Sundays there is that Program "Macka all over" which is just SO quintessentially Australian. You could get it cause it would be on your Saturday maybe?
ALSO ABC radio has somethings in podcasts that you can download at any time. Might be a way to get a bit of a dose of aussie?? Maybe have a look at ABC website?
I listened to most of that cricket final on my radio- I find that cricket is even better than meditation music when I am sleepless!!! LOts love to you both - ME
What a lovely man Yeh Maybe Scots are really kind people too. And completely unrelated to main comment we're still getting tomatoes from Jen's garden at front of her old flat. And now in May - nearly winter. Perhaps some connection because the kindly Scotsman gave you tomatoes. Your scenery shot makes me think you might never be able to grow tomatoes in Canada.
We both still have ever-itchy feet and woke up in a cold sweat one morning with the realisation that if we did not take advantage of the under 30 (ish) work visa that Canada offers to Australian residents, we would never get to. So here we are over 17 months later, taking the long way home via South America. No need to rush...
Post Script: We are now 4, not 2, and we are no longer under 30! We still have ever-itchy feet but also a mortgage to contend with so for the most part our travels from now on will probably be a little shorter in duration... but they will continue!... full info
