Travel Vs Climbing

So, while Canada has a lot to offer in addition to Squamish, I am faced with a perpetual challenge. When the sun is out and the rock is dry, how am I ever going to get out and see other parts of Canada?

Of course other travel and exploration could happen when it is raining, but there are problems with this. The weather changes so quickly here, that you cannot believe the forecast. This means that we do not commit to anything else on a weekend and plan to go climbing, unless it is raining when we wake up. When it is raining, we are then left without an alternative plan, because we could not conceive of not climbing. (Sorry for the double negative there, grammar police, teachers and soon to be ex-teachers - ie Dad and Richard! I am leaving it there because I like to rebel some times.) We also often sleep in when it is raining, ‘cause we can, leaving half a day to “do something” which usually results in playing scrabble, doing housework, writing a few emails, cooking some dinner… it is very hard to get motivated to make a plan and then carry it out when it is raining outside. I know, from experience that the rain does not melt you and that you can have fun out in it. So, from now on, I am going to write a list of potential rainy day activities, so that they will be there to default to when we cannot climb and have not got the motivation to conjure up alternate plans. I may even come up with some cool weekend trips that we should do regardless of the weather, because rock will always be near where ever we are living, but Canada will not. So, the good news for you guys back home, is that soon there will be stories and photos of places other than our house and Squamish. So hang in there, I’ll do my best.

But for the meantime, guess where we went last weekend???

Yep, you guessed it. SQUAMISH! And I led my two hardest trad climbs. A 5.7 and a 5.8 (about a 15/16 Australian?), but they were both solid cracks. Woo hoo. And Jono dutifully documented the moment. Oh, and there are a couple of other photo’s of Jono’s office here as well.

From Parkesbourne, again!
Hi Dahns and Jono! I am visiting Muma againa and have taken the chance to catch up on your blog. The pictures come up better on Mumas computer than they do on our Morandoo Ave one! THey are great, too- they really do give a good idea of what your life is like, thank you lots for all of them! Dahns once you have mastered cracks and jamming you might like to practice the smiling for the camera!! Loved the picure of the poodle. Also am pretty impressed with your office, Jono! Though the Sydney opera house is unique to SYDNEY - I am annoyed that Canada has seemed to plagiarise it! Love from Mum

Is the laughing crack the rock or your butt? lol. I love your photos. If I wasn't so lazy and weak I'd like to give rock climbing a go, it looks awesome. As for the rain, it really does ruin everything doesn't it? lol.

Sydney Opera house
Yeah, it does seem plagiarised. I agree. I'll find out when it was built ;-)

Typical Canadians, eh? Taking something awesome and stealing it for themselves.
