Looking forward to our trip, with Lyn and Steve Weber and Mark Oberegger, Mark has not been to Beijing so planned to have a couple of days there, we were only going to have three days in Beijing and catch the Trans Siberian Train taking 24 hours, but this was not to be! Booked the train with a company in Beijing and they notified us that because the World Cup is in Moscow we were not guaranteed seats until three days before departure......because people going all the way to Moscow would get priority and we would be bumped off.....so hence the extra day in Beijing and are now flying up to Ulaanbaatar. Hot and humid here in Beijing, flight delayed by one hour and a half, so ended up getting to hotel around 2am Melbourne time ... read more

Left Melbourne with still really lovely weather but after a very hectic schedule for the past few weeks with THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR and grand children for a week we were really looking for a break and a month in Bali not doing too much was the ideal getaway. Had booked a Luxury Escape deal to the Sofitel in Nusa Dua for the first nine days and that was so relaxing, we have never stayed here before because we felt it is just too isolated, but isolation was probably the best thing for a complete relax. We had a lovely room at the Sofitel, with loads of different pools close by, and the resort being right on the beach meant we could walk the boardwalk around the edge of all the different resorts and did ... read more

Well what a breath of fresh air pulling into Stavanger, our most southern port of call on this cruise, no snow or ice in the town. A beautiful town with all the wooden houses which are considered national heritage monuments in their own right, kept so pristine, was lovely to wander around for a few hours taking in the sites. Very pretty Norwegian town. Though we did take a walk around the lake in the middle of town with loads of birds on it and it was 3/4 frozen over, John said "can I video you walking on the ice to see if it can hold another bird's weight, I AM NOT THAT SILLY! The gorgeous cathedral was built in the 12th century and was modelled on Winchester Cathedral which we visited a few years ago. ... read more

Well after one day at sea arrived in Tromso 8am after passing through the Artic Circle and boy is it cold! Quite a bit of cloud so didn't know how we would go searching for Northern Lights tonight that wasn't until 7.00pm pick up, so caught the FREE SHUTTLE BUS (about the only thing on this cruise that has been for free) to town and had a good look around, very pretty town but lots of snow and you have to look out for the grey ice everywhere, makes for slipping dangerous, we have our ice spikes to clip onto our shoes so that is handy. Temperature here today if -1 so cold but I think the worst is to come further up. Life goes on in these frozen towns and they drive like the roads ... read more

25.2.2018 Drove 2 hrs from Isle of Portland to Southampton Airport and dropped little Jazz off then an Uber to the ship. Piles of people waiting to board, their ccomputer system was down, they had to MANUELLY check everyone in, but wasn't too bad and were on board for 2.00pm then set sail around 7.00pm, very late but made up time. Had two days at sea, including my birthday which was not too bad just a relaxing time, took in a couple of movies at the theatre, a couple of lectures and a few drinks etc, the days just went really fast. 28.2.1018 Arrived in Andalsnes...our first port of call....who would want to live in this god forsaken place! Not really abandoned but freezing, windy...could not get enough clothes on. Very pretty place really right up ... read more

Had a lovely drive from Looe to Isle of Portland, stopping into Plymouth for a look around the Hoe, fabulous harbour and historical area with a working military base right in the middle of the Hoe. Little bit hazy and nippy but the sun was shining for most of the day. Had a nice coffee harbourside and then pushed on to Weymouth and the Isle of Portand. We rented a gorgous little cottage close to the bottom of the hill of Portland....the couple who own it have renovated it beautifully with everything you could need...very tasteful..even left us with a beautiful hamper from the Dorset area, fudge, orange and whiskey jam, museli, Dorset Ginger biscuites, wine and beer...so nice of them. Spent Friday out and about going down the coast a little further to visit a ... read more

After a couple of beautiful sunny days in Faversham got up Monday to drive across to Looe and drizzle, cloudy and pretty cool! Good day for driving....pulled into Looe about 3.30 after pulling into Plymouth on the way over. Looe is like stepping back in time such a very pretty little costal village spanning across both sides of the inlet, fishing is their thing here with a huge harbourside fish market! Our apartment is right above some shops in the main street of town....just a great spot and a beautiful apartment too! Our mate Steve...C151 connection...lives here so great to catch up with him. He lives on the other side to us so a lovely walk over the bridge and down a couple of little narrow streets...like mountain goat country getting up to his house....such a ... read more

Well arrived at Heathrow eventually.....never with Qatar again...rocked up to Tullamarine 8.00pm for our 1030pm flight to be told it will not be leaving until 1.00a.m. Anyway staked out a new bar and had a few beers whilst waiting...nearly 14hrs to Doha and then another 7 1/2 to Heathrow, collected our hire car a little Jazz and off to Faversham. Very tired but thought the 1hr 20 min drive would be OK but as soon as we hit the freeway...stop start stop start....2hr15min later arrived in Faversham, a very cute English town where Eloise and Dean live with their littly Dylan, also Bob Geldof. Booked into our AirBNB which is a lovely old home walking distance to El and Dean's....El had a beautiful home cooked meal ready for us and it was great to catch up ... read more

Monday 14th big day! Set off on the Bullet train from Kyoto Station, it took about two hours before we disembarked, reaching up to 320klm per hour, it was a very comfortable ride and the time just flew by looking out at the scenery just buzzing by. A bus met us and took us for another two hours to the Mt Fuji 5th Station but saw absolutely nothing as it was more or less a blizzard, so that was a bit disaappointing but that is travel. Onto Oshino Hakkai known for the springs of Mt Fuji, the eight ponds are fed by the melting snow from Mt Fuji through porous layers of lava resulting in very clear spring water that is revered by the locals. Then took a cruise on Lake Ashi which is beautiful but ... read more
