Had an easy drive up from Washington DC around 3 hours. Staying in Gap which is about 12 miles from Lancaster out in a small town in the countryside.. so pretty! Thought it would be nice to spend our last 3 days 2 nights in the countryside before heading back into NYC. We are staying in an Amish family's home in the township of Gap. Lovely young couple with two little kids 2 1/2 and 9 months... spick and span home with everything you need, they had gone away for the weekend so they rent out their home when they go away.. we have had some wonderful experiences with AirBNB and this is no different. They are not very strict, though no TV in house (which I guess is a good thing) as they seem to ... read more

After goodbye breaky with Blake and Suzy, left Toronto around 10.00a.m. and headed to Niagara on the Lake, a beautiful little town, probably one of the prettiest we have seen, had a walk around the streets walking along tree lined street with baskets, beds and pots of the most gorgeous colourful flowers everywhere, had lunch in a cute little restaurant.... this area has lots and lots of wineries around it.. so bought a couple of bottles of wine too! Another 25 minutes up the road to Niagara Falls, still as majestic as when we saw them back in 1992, the Canadian side has the best views...seeing we had already done the Maid of the Mist boat ride gave that a miss and walked along the footpaths to get the best view of the falls. We were ... read more

Rained nearly all the way of the 5 hour drive into Toronto.. just stopped before entering the Downtown..sooo excited to see our American friends who have driven and flown in for the weekend...Blake and Suzy from Lafayette Louisiana and Tim and Deb driving up from Detroit (about 5 hours).. they all arrived Friday and we arrived 3.00p.m. Saturday... we were a bit late leaving Morrisburg as during the night we learnt that Vonnie (John's Mum) had passed and had a few phone calls and emails to send. As previously planned she would be cremated ASAP and then we would have a memorial service in Nambour when family could be together, so we are continuing on our holiday and coming home as planned. It was a breath of fresh air catching up with everyone in Toronto, staying ... read more

Left Boston and drove up to Portland in Maine along the coast, lovely drive so green and lots of trees with the leaves just starting to turn yellow and orange, bit early for all the fall colors. From Portland we wound up on the Pequawket Trail which was very pretty until we arrived at Conway in New Hampshire and took the Kancamagus Highway through he mountains to Lincoln, what a pretty drive overlooking the White Mountains, obviously a lot of ski lodges along the way but this time of year lush and green! Then crossed into Vermont just after Lincoln and headed to Burlington, Vermont. Burlington is a great little place on the edge of the Champlain Lake, such a beautiful spot with all sorts of boats on the water, hard to visualize it in the ... read more

Took us around 5 hours to drive up to Boston - quite an easy drive and found our apartment easily. We are in North End (which is called little Italy) where Paul Revere lived... a very busy bustling area... within 200 metres of 87 restaurants, bars, salumieris, Italy groceries... love it!!! Lots of Mom and Pop stores!! Such a great spot... tiny little apartment but 2 bed and 2 bath. Also about 200 metres to the waterfront in the other direction. Went for a lazy casual dinner and a couple of beers at the Boston Sail Loft on the waterfront.. then back for an early night. Woke early but we are all still with aching muscles, calves after our hectic time in New York. First things first down to a lovely Italian place for breaky and ... read more

Changed planes in LA with about 20 minutes to spare... A380 to LA then 747 to New York.. collected out hire car then drove to our home away from home in Union City. Lovely apartment with a great view of the Manhattan skyline.. 2 bedroom 2 bathroom with everything you need. Took a walk around the neighbourhood and had a pizza and refreshing beer for dinner at a local Italian restaurant. Didn't get to our apartment until nearly 8.00p.m. Bed 10.30 and ready for a day of exploring with ... read more

Left Melbourne 6.45a.m. on Friday 14.8.2016 - breakfast with our gorgeous kids in Ballarat and then onwards to the Fleurieu Peninsula arriving in Normanville around 4.30p.m. Have booked a week at the Lady Bay Links Resort in Normanville, a quaint little seaside town, the resort itself is on a golf course, great little one bedroom apartments, Lady Bay Links has a restaurant and bar and just a klm into town. Had this booked and paid for, for ages, so decided still to come with plastered leg etc.....mmmmmm was that a good idea?? Anyway making the most of it.. fell twice...all good...lots of laughs from the males of the outfit.....at the expense of their unco spastic companion.. Mark has sore ribs from laughing but anyway we are having a pretty good time. The weather has been fantastic ... read more

Had a small getaway for 6 days, mainly to see John's Mum Von and catch up with a few friends and family. Arrived on Wednesday and picked up our hire car, rained virtually all day. Headed straight to Nambour to see Von and catch up with doctor and case manager etc. Von is still in Sundale Nursing Home and being looked after beautifully - frail and fading but still hasn't lost her sense of humor. Stayed with our cousins Lindsay and Gaye, was lovely to come home each day and relax and hang out with them. Had a couple of nights with our niece Shelley and her husband Dean and their children Summer and Molly - so nice to see where they are living now in North Lakes and also to see their new business venture ... read more

Saw the crew off on Thursday night and had another two nights at the Sing Ken Ken before moving over to the Peninsula Bay Resort for a week, give it a go. Had never stayed over the Tanjung Benoa way - big mistake! Arrived Saturday afternoon and then had dinner with Reg, Adele and Noah at the Surya Cafe on the bay - a great little seafood place right on the beach - all the fish and crustaceans were all alive and in tanks - you just chose what you what - was a deliciously fresh and tasty meal of red snapper, prawns, calamaria and lobster! Also another great meal at Glaze a beaut restaurant with Asian/Western Mix. Took a ride up onto the Bukit whilst over this way as well and had brunch at one ... read more
