9 days and counting. It is getting very exciting. I hear my mum telling me to sit still as I look as if I have ants in my pants. I cannot help it - 9 days and we will be off to sunnier climes - to France and to Greece. As I smell the pot pourri - meadow flowers scent on my dresser I feel uplifted and ready to get on the road again. It will be the first time on the road with Suzy and it feels strange. She has been hoovered out and smells fresh - just like the meadow flowers pot pourri. She has been dusted and our clothes are now packed ready to go. Will we have enough ? Will we have taken too few? Will we have taken the wrong ones? ... read more

When I was younger I used to think that time passed by slowly. I remember as a child being told not to waste my time but thought nothing of frittering away a whole 24 hours doing nothing but stay in bed all day and sleep through the night. I must have wasted hour after hour as a teenager doing nothing more than sit around. My mum and gran used to advise me that Time waits for no man. Well at the time I thought it waited for me. How wrong can you be? Where has this year gone to? In January Christmas seemed like a dim and distant dream. I kept flexi at work so that if the snow came and the roads were blocked I could use it to stay at home. The snow didn't ... read more

Life's a funny old thing isn't it? My thought of the day said something like " Feel good, be good and do good" All laudable things to do. Do I feel good? Yes I suppose I do. The first day of official Spring has arrived and with it better weather . It is hard not to feel good when the sun has started to shine, the clocks have changed to British Summer Time and the hedgerows are starting to colour up with that fresh Springlike lime green. The snowdrops have gone over and been replaced by the pale mauves of the crocus; they in turn have given over to nodding yellow daffodils and thick white buds on the magnolia. It is hard to feel anything but happy. The new Sally Sat Nag seems to be the ... read more

We were yet again reminded why we really were missing Suzy as we spent a night in a travel lodge. It was difficult to book, the room was cold until we found the heater switches, we were stuck in single beds. Not the fantastic Hypnos beds they advertise but older ones not so comfy. The carpets were functional but faded, the desk old fashioned and the shower cubicle utilitarian. There was even a door way boarded up between our room and the next . Obviously the room had been a joint family one in some dim and distant time and now had wallpaper covering it and the locks punched out. Our evening meal was at the Toby Carvery next door. Busy and functional was about all we could say. Not the best carvery meal we have ... read more

This visit was going to be a visit of superlatives . It was a visit I had always wanted to do. A place I had always wanted to see. A old Sufi saying states that "within your own house dwells the treasure of joy" Now this interior was going to be a treasure of joy. I felt as if I would come out with a smile on my face. I would be grinning from ear to ear . Having paid our £10.20 I felt that we would get value for money on this visit . We entered the entrance hall of the gothic fantasy that Burges had demanded be made for himself and his family. The interior of the hallway was pretty plain and the guys on the door directed us to some stone stairs. Go ... read more

D Day minus 49 - it is quite incredible how time flies when you are having fun. A week away has brought us ever closer to our Greek odyssey. We have enjoyed being away, sitting watching the waves rolling in to the beach and warming our toes in front of the wood burner. Oddly overnight though we started to think where else we could go to. We have missed Suzy and the fact that in a motorhome we can move when we feel like it. It has felt distinctly odd not having our belongings with us or to hand and even odder being hunkered down. We could stay another two days. We even thought about the money we had paid for our idylic cottage but in the end we got the wanderlust feeling and it was ... read more

We are nearing the end of our trip to Cornwall. I worked out the main things I wanted to revisit and wanted Glenn to see. After today we will be on the other bits. I had pencilled in the Bodmin Railway a heritage steam train - closed. I had thought to take him to the museum of shipwrecks at Charlestown - closed until April. We could go to the Lizard and to Cape Cornwall but in this weather it was not that appealing. We possibly could visit St Ives - again not attractive in the pouring rain. I had no intention of visiting Lands End. So we were now in the process of wondering what to do next. Two more whole days - perhaps if I sleep on it something will come to mind. Before that ... read more

Today is a very special day for a number of reasons. Firstly I have reached another milestone. Another birthday. Another year older. Something I am trying quite hard to forget. Secondly it is our wedding anniversary - part of the reason for this trip. Thirdly it was St Davids Day the patron saint of my home country. So what were we going to do today to celebrate all of these things. I had brought my cards down with me together with a celebratory bottle of wine. The cards from our wedding anniversary too were in the bag. St David was being celebrated by the many daffodils opening along the hedgerows and in the gardens of Cornwall. The weather yet again was inclement. The rain poured and if it did not pour it drizzled. Mizzled is a ... read more

We are settling in nicely to the routine of lying in in the morning, making a leisurely breakfast, planning the day out and just meandering. It is very different to being in Suzy . For a start nothing is to hand. We have a well equiped kitchen but it's not Suzy's kitchen and I find myself opening drawer after drawer and cupboard after cupboard to locate what item I need. We love the log burner and enjoy sitting in front of it at night as the wind howls outside and the rain lashes the cottage without pausing for breath . We like the comfortable bed with its thick warm duvet but it does feel rather odd compared to our Duvalays and we spend a lot of time of the road going back and to over the ... read more

We pondered this visit very hard . First we decided to go as it would be a good rainy day activity. Then we looked at the admission price . We could hardly believe the cost £25 each if we paid on the day on the door . There was a 10% discount for on line purchases . That took us down to £22.50 each which was still a lot of money. We slept on it. I checked every discount site known to man and found nothing better than our 10% on line offer. We slept again and thought no we are not spending that sort of money. Would we get the chance to do it again? Who knows? Would we come to this part of the world again? You never know. Would we just keep thinking ... read more
