WHAT A DAY! OCTOBER 29 (The power has been out in Kayanga so please forgive the radio silence.) When 7,000 people show up for an event, you know something is going on! To encapsulate: The KARUCO campus was decorated beautifully. EVERYONE seemed to be there. The music was lively, celebratory and colorful. The church service was beautiful and lasted the morning. The afternoon Inauguration was filled with speakers from all Partner groups, music and an expected visit from former President Kikwete (Friend of KARUCO). ******* ETI put on its best garb and headed to KARUCO in the rain. Fortunately it sprinkled only in the morning and was overcast most of the day with intermittent sunshine. We arrived as it sprinkled and sat under the decorated tent - me in the front row of International Partners alongside ... read more

It was lovely to get a good night’s sleep at the Two Friends Beach Hotel in Entebbe. The hotel overlooks Lake Victoria and is beautiful with a beautiful staff. It’s Friday morning here, and Team ETI looks well-rested. We enjoyed our breakfast together prior to meeting up with our trusted friend and driver, Ben. Ben’s Rentals and Adventures showed up before 9, met our ‘crew’ and hit the road to travel to Karagwe, Tanzania. We have known Ben since ETIs inception. We were introduced by Charles Lugemwa, Founder of HOPE Clinics, Uganda and grad of the University of St Thomas (MN). It is the first time in Africa for two of our team and the first time in Karagwe for another two. Five of Team ETI’s nine have been to Karagwe and other places on the ... read more

Hello Everyone! It’s dawn in Amsterdam. Team ETI arrived in Amsterdam following the first leg of the trip from Minneapolis to Tanzania. Our trip is for the purpose of attending the Dedication & Inauguration of KARUCO -Karagwe University College in NW Tanzania. ETI has partnered with Karagwe Diocese since 2010 to establish the college of agriculture and educate youth and farm families in Karagwe and introduce new methods of farming and agribusiness-related technologies. One leg down; two to go. The flight was uneventful- just the way we like them. A couple of movies, some sleep and two meals later ... we are across the Atlantic and on another continent. One more continent and two more legs to go (one flight and then ground transport to Karagwe). We departed Minnesota on October 25 and arrived the next ... read more

5.7 earthquake hits Kagera Tanzania. Our Tanzanian partners are safe personally but the communities are affected with 2 dead in Karagwe and 23 in neighboring Bukoba. Our partners report that KARUCO's buildings and water tanks appear sound and will be inspected more completely in the near future.
