Three families are going to California to race Speedway Sidecars against the Americans. While this is our main goal, we will also be experiencing the touristy things on our travels to the different tracks around California.

Just got back from City of Industry Speedway which runs every Wednesday night through summer 40 mins from Disneyland. The track was about 140 meters in an equestrian centre with a roof and a screen for replays and advertising. The weather was fantastic today, about 33 degrees with a lovely breeze late this afternoon. They gave the fellas practice before the meeting. It looked awful. They couldn't get around the track and the support team were getting worried. They came out for their races and all won their heats quite well. The Americans are very enthusiastic about changing their setups to try and revolutionize their bikes. Shane dropped a heat and Phillip and Eli won their three heats passing Mark and Lionel in their duel. Shane and Nick (US) came together with Mark in the first ... read more

We arrived in San Francisco about 2pm, got changed into as many warm clothes as possible, then searched for more. Typically we were unprepared for the wind chill factor on the streets of San Francisco. Bridgette and Tash were freaking out as the CSI guys were leaving the room next door to them with evidence bags of a recent death in the hotel as thare we're putting their bags in their accommodation for the night. After Joe and Mark came back from buying the bus tickets, we caught the bus down to Fishermans Wharf. We had some clam chowder in the sourdough bowl and headed for Pier 33 to catch the boat to Alcatraz for our 6:45 tour. The weather was nippy, but when you consider how it ended up, it was pretty mid on the ... read more

Fast Fridays was great. The people were so enthusiastic and wanted to know lots of info about the bikes. I would think a few are going to build some of these style of frames. Big night afterwards, rolling on top of really late nights and 4:30 starts, we are starting to get tired. The countryside up here is beautiful. Lots of pine trees and some grass. Not like LA. On the way to San Francisco, Joe took us to one of his friends who is a stunt man and racer of flat trackers ( Gary Davis). He was the stunt man who worked with Evil Kinevil. This museum at hisplace was mad. Heaps of bikes ,even a Crump solo was there. This place was all the fellas dreams. He even had a trackI with a magnificent ... read more

Over the last couple of days, it has been hectic. Firstly, we all went to Universal Studios on Tuesday. It was packed, but we all managed to stay together and everyone went on the rides together. The line ups, although long seemed to be enjoyable, with the Bogans making themselves seen and heard. The new Transformer ride is really good and there were heaps of things to see and do. The next day was the 4th July and after the boys washed the bikes at Joes, we drove down to San Diego Sea World. We got these City Passes which includes 3 days at Disney, Universal and San Diego for 279 which has worked out really well. The whales at Sea World were incredible, although their dorsal fins are so curled over, they would never allow whales ... read more

Yesterday we went to Knottsberry Farm. We hadn't been there before and the day was perfect. We arrived before opening so for the first couple of hours, you basically had the park to yourself! Which is completely different to Disneyland where lines for rides take 1 hour. There were many roller coasters and thrill rides which Kelly and Phillip enjoyed. The main setting is a wild west town and the shows on offer related to Saloon singers, cowboy stuntshows and also Snoopy type shows for the little kids. It was pretty hot but enjoyable. Dinner was at Bubba Gumps Shrimps and it tasted good. Drinks we had a Margarona, which was a margarita with a 200 ml corona tipped upside down, and as you drank the margarita, the corona filled the glass. It actually tasted very ... read more

After getting home from speedway at 2:30am, having dinner on the way home and all getting together for the mandatory debrief, we didn't wake up until 12:00 pm, thus missing half the day. So we headed offdown the Californian 22W to Long Beach. It wasn't very far, I think 13 miles. We found a park and decided to walk to tour the Queen Mary 2. We could see the smoke stacks in the distance, thinking it was just to the left, but the navman was telling us to go further down. Anyway, we crossed a bridge to finally reach the QM2. It was interesting and I loved the old time opulence of polished veneer timber which was the main feature of the boat. We went on the ghosts and legend tour of the boat which was ... read more

We have just arrived home after a huge evening at the racetrack. IMS is 40 mile from Disneyland and today was absolutely the epitome of California in the sun. After a couple of hours shopping and two hours in the motorcycle apparel shop, we made it to the racetrack. The temperature would have been 39degrees. I personally loved it. The bikes arrived in Joe Jones' massive trailer that fit our three sidecars and was tall enough for Shane (6 ft 4) to stand easily in. Racing started at 8 pm after they allowed our boys to do practice. Mark went out and surprisingly for a track of 280m went really smooth. Phillip, on the other hand ended up turning it around after two good laps. Apparently the kill switch came out. Shane did well inpractice also. ... read more

The bikes have arrived in LA after a 5 week journey. Thanks to Joe and others I am sure for unloading them and looking after them during our stay. We will be leaving Australia on Thursday, arriving there Thursday morning. Kids are all off to Disneyland for our first of three days scheduled. The boys will need to sort things out with the bikes as the first meeting is Friday June 29 at San Bernadino IMS. Will let you know how it is going when we are there. Hopefully there is WiFi.... read more
