This set of blogs is another Group Vacation. Our 2008 trip was from KC up and around Lake Superior into Canada and then a slight detour to Milwaukee for a few days for the 25th and 105th celebrations for HOG and Harley Davidson. The blogs are broken into sections, each being a day in the trip. The first blog of this trip is here . Clear Lake IA, Sunday 24 AUG 08 -- We were at it bright and early this morning. The deal is that we will grab what we can for breakfast at the motel, but we will have an early lunch. One of our crew needs to have protein in the morning, the motel carb breakfasts are not doing it. First stop is at the Surf Ballroom to get pictures of the monument ... read more

We had all shared a room last night. Jerry showed up around 8am and joined us for breakfast. The hotel had the hot thing going with waffles and such. No protein, just carbs. As we were gassing up the bikes we noticed the Amish sales stand was back again ... read more

The next 10 blogs are another of of the Group Vacations. I act as the tour guide, plan the trip after getting some guidelines like dates and destination. They following me blindly, not knowing the destinations for each day. Its like a game. I give hints, some are really big some are very small, they try to figure it out where we are going and guess amoung themselves. This is the second year we have done this and I love it. I didn’t get all of it written up last year, but this year I committed to getting it done. Last year it was to the National HOG rally in Knoxville TN, followed by a trip through NC. This year its to the 25th Anniversary HOG party in Milwaukee WI. The adventure will be the days ... read more

Okay this is another one that did not include my bike Effie. But it was a fun time so I wanted to write it up anyway. Well, I got roped into this by my boss, Beth. I got this phone call as I was in bed trying to get over the food poisoning I had gotten. No I did not cook the bad food, this time. The caller told me how much fun it would be and that Beth was going to be arrested too. I agreed after I was assured that Beth was going. I figured Beth would not get me into something too hard if she was going too. When I talked to her a couple days later Beth told me how much fun it would be and how we would rope Carol Glidden ... read more

Kansas City, Kan, July 26, 2008 - What do you get when 2 HOG groups get together? Well, a parade, fellowship and of course food. That is exactly what happened when the Joplin HOG Chapter from Joplin MO came to Olathe KS to visit us in the Central Midwest HOG Chapter. The whole thing was coordinated by the Ladies of Harley presidents of each group. We were supposed to do this last year but a week or so before the event the director of their HOG group was in a motorcycle accident that was quite severe. He ended up loosing a leg. His wife the LOH president cancelled the trip to KC. Early in 2007 we the Central Midwest HOG group had gone to Joplin and they hosted us for a short twisty ride and a ... read more

Its been awhile since I wrote in the blog, I am going to try and remedy that. I have been riding alot, so more should be posted pretty quick. The XL-List had thier annual rally here in KC. Actually it was at Basswood Resort just north of KC. I ran out there on Friday to say Hi and put some faces to the names I see on the list. Screw Loose Dan had not arrived yet but I had a nice conversation with Decman and others. Decmans ride reports are what I loved most about the XL-List, now if we could just get him to start posting them again. I called later in the evening when the weather reports were bad to tell Screw Loose that bad weather was coming, only to find out that it ... read more

6-8 JUNE 08 Concordia KS American Legion Leadership College & Presidential Race I currently work for the American Legion in Overland Park and I am an officer in 2 groups there. I am the Historian for the American Legion Riders and the 1st Vice President for the American Legion Auxiliary. The Riders is what brought me to the post and they are truly the best organization I have ever belonged to. They accomplish so much so easily. Anyway I have never been much of a bar person, I barely drink. I not an anti-drinker, just don’t need it to cope with life. My favorite drink is Jack and coke, but I have had the same bottle of Jack Daniels in my cabinet for 15 years. I have no tolerance for drunks. So now I work in ... read more

I ran across these pictures on my computer and just couldn't hold them back any longer. These were taken on a trip to North Carolina for the XL List East Coast Rally (May 2008). The rally is an informal affair. There are no rally fees, no registration, no t-shirts just show up if you want and ride. I have gone for the last 2 years and both years on Saturday the group heads to the Shatley Inn (www.shatleysprings.com) for lunch and then on the Striped Snake (www.shadyvalleycountrystore.com) for some fun riding. Well the Shatley Inn is my favorite place to eat. When I get in the area I try to eat there. Its just a down home resturant in the middle of nowhere. I love to get their family style meal, its all the fried chicken, ... read more

For the second year in a row I went to the XL-List East Coast Sportster Rally ECR . This year it was expanded from the Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning activities to include the full day Friday. Unlike most other rallies it is very informal, there is no registration, no t-shirts, no vendors, just a bunch of sportsters coming from all over the east coast to ride together. The gathering is small but only serious riders show up for it. Besides setting up the website and forum Gary H (Higgy) does the planning or should I say he makes the suggestions on different activities and puts it out there for us to comment on. Then he follows through and lays it all out for us. He's a good guy. May 16-18, 2008, the rally was ... read more

Toto, I See Twisties! The Poppy Poker Ride was a joint project of the women of the American Legion Auxiliary and the bikers of the American Legion Riders, both of the Dwight Cowles American Legion Post 370 in Overland Park, KS. I was the cooordinator as I was a member of both groups. It started as a suggestion that the Riders group help the Auxiliary with their annual poppy distribution. Bill Christensen suggested to me that the riders help the aux and i am sure he was wanting us to stand out front of some stores and help with the distribution that way. I knew better than that. You know what poppies I am talking about right? The little red paper flowers that veterans make, offering you a flower for a free will donation. The money ... read more
