March 13th, 2006, Day 67 of our cruise of 105 Cochin, in South West India What a wonderful surprise, Cochin is a lovely city. Indian Customs and Immigration is a challenge for a cruise ship, they tell us. To compensate for this, we were treated to a folkloric show this morning at 9:30 am in the Queen’s Lounge, very unusual but organized by the capable activities staff to ease the wait. We were finally cleared to disembark at 10:30 to a parade of 4 elephants all decked out (but chained as not to stamped). We rented a taxi and driver Boban with our friends Mary and Robin and set off to see Fort Cochin and the Chinese dipping nets, the many Christian churches (we saw an Indian wedding) and the Mattancherry Palace with erotic 16th century ... read more

March 9th, 2006, Day 63 of our cruise of 105 Spent the day at Victoria, on Ile Mahe one of 115 Seychelles Islands It is the Hawaii of the Indian Ocean, an absolute paradise We arrived this morning to a beautiful, clean town on peaks of lovely green trees. Shuttled into town, bought Seychelle ruppes(by mistake) hopped a cab to the other side of the island to the nicest beach( Beau Vallon). Swam in warm salt water, came back to town for shopping and came home. Lovely day Now we will be three days sailing the Indian Ocean to Cochin, India. This Seychelle Island was a great reprieve between Kenya and India. The Seychelles are British but just recently, yet everybody speaks French and Creole. On the radio of the shuttle bus today, the announcer switched ... read more

March 7th, 2006, Day 61 of our cruise of 105 First of 2 sea days We have left Kenya and are heading to the Seychelles Islands The safari was exhausting, thrilling, enriching; a good opportunity to compare a game reserve (in white South Africa) and the great outdoors of the wilds of Africa (we were on a Maasai preserve with no fences to keep the animals from migrating in the interior of black Kenya). Granny, see excursion Maasai Mara page 27 of the excursion book. We slept in a good strong tent with an armed guard; 3 sides of our Mara Safari Club were bordered by the Mara River, the other side by an electric fence. One of the pictures shows our own baby hippo with family on the bank of the Mara River in front ... read more

March 4th, 2006, Day 58 of our cruise of 105 Mombassa Kenya Very, very hot, maybe the hotter than of all our ports We had another wonderful safe day with our 12 friends on a mini bus and another Mohamoud; we were gone from 8 am till 4, walked 5 hours of that in 31 degree C. I wash all our clothes every day in the bath tub. Last night, we went on an expensive ship organized tour to have a cruise on a ship with diner. Nice breeze, althought the Mombassa creek was a tad smelly. Today, we fly out to the Maira Masa and we will be on safari on the fringe of the Serengeti; we are excited about this. I hope you enjoy the pictures Hello my children, hello granny. Ttys, love to ... read more

February 28th, 2006, Mardi Gras ce soir! Day 54 of our cruise of 105 Nosy Be, Madagascar, ex-colonie francaise.

February 27th, 2006 Day 53 of our cruise of 105, over the half way mark, pity 139 nautical miles from Madagascar Well! What an exiting time we have had at sea. First, on Sunday night we received our medals for “…choosing Holland America….”; Terry and I and almost half the ship’s passengers were awarded the 100 day medal. We were entertained in the Queen’s Lounge with Champagne, orange juice, pink martini type drinks and hors d’oeuvre. Then we proceeded to the LaFontaine dining room for a formal diner. (see our medals by the towel elephant, we get different sculptures every night, tonight a cute towel puppy) Tonight, we have been invited by the captain and his lovely wife to their table in their appartment for dinner. I just hope I can fit in my chosen outfit. ... read more
