So this is where my 'listing by day' plan comes unstuck. Travelling so far east around the planet the whole time thing gets a little wobbly, and my body doesnt know whether its hungry, tired, hot or cold. A nice night in the Delmere in London and a good breakfast too. Rain stopped for a short while so decided to walk to Paddington station. It was less than quarter of the distance to walk than a black cab (one way streets). Todays travelling surpassed all other, everything fell together like kids jigsaw. I walked into Paddington station and found the sign to the Heathrow Express. Girl told me I had 2 mins to board - great timing (and if i missed it, another one left in 15 mins) Went to the front of the train, parked ... read more

A half day of travelling today, up early, breakfast and Au Revoir to the Hotel Innova. John Pierre (sjorn pee air) was very helpful. Caught the metro to Montparnasse and another to Nord Railway station. Did the whole immigration thing and boarded the Eurostar. This train is awesome, you have no idea your moving (well almost). We rocket along at 180mph. When you go in and out of tunnels you have no idea they are coming, its bright then dark in an instant. Depart the train station at St Pancras. This adjoins Kings Cross Railway station. I thought I had the tube system worked out, but have some issues getting the right tube to Paddington. This Kings Cross Station is like nothing else. Theres me and another chap looking at the map and signs and scratching ... read more

Late Breakfast at Innova, weather threatening today. People everywhere in the hotel, serves me right in getting up late. Chatted with a guy from USA who was leaving today for home. Shared some useful information on Paris. Raining now as heading out to metro, after 9.30am. Visited the Arc de Triomphe, a 164 foot monument. Climbed to the top and has great views. Centre point of so many boulevards. Read all info and took in all views, decended and crossed the road (underneath). Theres enough room on this round about for around 8 lanes, not that they have lanes. no pedestrian is going to walk into that, lucky they provide underground walkways, though hard to find. While atop the ADT I noticed other sites further north along the boulevard. Took a long metro ride to the ... read more

Bonjour, Breakfast at the Innova was frenchly different to the full breakfast enjoyed in Ireland. Though my waistline will benefit i am sure. I took two metros to Chalemagne Statue just near Notre Dame. Did some sightseeing then met the tour guide for my cycling tour of Paris. Paul from BikeAboutTours set us up with bikes and the peleton hit the streets. I highly recommend this tour. Like most other personally guided tours, you saw things and heard stories that are truly unique. Paul (from New Zealand) view of the city is from a downunder perspective, with all the knowledge of a local. We stopped at his favourite cafe and I ordered the baguette, drink and dessert. There were many jhighlights including a trail of discovery for the movie Ratatoille. The makes of the movie fashioned ... read more

Today I left Dublin. The Airlink ride to the airport was quick and easy. Checked in with 16.7kg (no charge for the 1.7 over) and waited in the queue. plane was only 35 minutes late so it was a good day. We landed in Bauvaris which is 80km north of Paris. It was a quaint little airfield. customs were not exciting. Collected the bag and boarded a bus. had to load your own bags and struggle for the bus door. Guy next to me explained a whole bunch of Paris stuff in english so was great. got off the 45 min bus ride at Port Maillot. Had to find the Subway, not easy in a 7 story building of shops. Especially when you cant speak french. Finally found it, and bought a 3 day travel pass. ... read more

Today was another amazing day. I bought my ticket for a Castle and Dublin Bay tour combined with a full day of hop on hop off travel around Dublin. As I had 1 hr to wait, I headed up O'Connell St to get my bearings for the Airlink bus back to the airport tomorrow. I then walked across town to Oscar Wilde's house, and to spend some quiet moments in Merrion Square (parkland/garden). Just lovely. Early in the morning there were no one else around, and they day was crisp and clear. Wandered back to the bus stop and headed off to Malahide Castle and Gardens. Did the tour of the castle, and continued the bus tour along the Dublin coast. Many interesting stops along the way. I got back to Dublin city and rejoined the ... read more

Great Breakfast at the College, light and airy. Picked up the car from the carpark. I will never complain about Adelaide carparks again. The carpark had 7 inches either side of the car, and shorter than the Ford Focus's length. Took a number of back and fro's to extract it (almost needed a can opener). Left the park and drove in circles until the gps could find a satellite (close buildings, very high, satellites low on the horizon). Drove to Newgrange which was particularly hard to find. Another national treasure 60km from Dublin you have to know all about before you can find it. The signposts for this place only started 1km before the turn off to the site, and in typical European style, have no distances on them, so you just drive into the ever ... read more

Todays objective was to drive back to Dublin, which has been achieved. It was around 300km which over here can be anywhere from 3 hours to 2 days. I left Bunratty and took a few pics of the Bunratty Castle, then onto Limerick. I visited Johns Castle and did the whole tour. Another town completely devoured by history and battles. I punched Dublin into Tom and hit the road. Did some back streets and meandered around the Shannon River before finding a half decent road, which then turned into the M7 and up to 120kmhr again. Arrived in Dublin at around 3ish which was good traffic. Unloaded my stuff into the room, and drove down to Dun Loghaire. This is like a semaphore or outer harbour but with an international departure point for ferries. Came back ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Clare » Cliffs of Moher August 26th 2009

Today I took a drive from Bunratty to the Cliffs of Moher. I stopped off on the way at St Bridgits Well, a quant little cemetary with a room whereby you could leave gifts in memory for the departed. There was a stream running through and it made a nice memorial. Drove to Moher and the cliffs were stunning. It was a little windy, some points you were stopped in your tracks and had to hold hard not to be walking backwards. Very gusty in places, and in others it was calm, depending on where the wind was at the time. Got some great photos, cant wait to show you. At one point in the cliff face, there was a waterfall producing a stream down the cliff. This went for about 5 metres before the strong ... read more

Europe » Ireland » County Kerry » Killarney August 25th 2009

Today I left Killarney, but on the way out, stopped off to have a look at Ross Castle and St Margarets Cathedral. St Margarets is huge, and I was allowed to just wander in. The door seems to be always open. It was very peaceful. Headed out through Killorglin, Milltown, Castlemaine, Inch and arrived at Dingle. Dingle is very nice. Went to another milltown (which plays havoc with the GPS as after picking the town, you have to pick which county your in, which is not always clear on maps). Had an hour to kill, went to Ventry and saw Dunbeg Fort. Each fort i visit it different, unique in its own way. this one was perched on the edge of a cliff. there were parts of it that had fallen into the ocean, but that ... read more
