Today, we went in a coach driven by M. Michel to Arnaga, which was the home of Edmond Rostand. Edmond Rostand was a writer who most famously wrote Cyrano de Bergerac. The film version with Gérard Dépardieu in the role of Cyrano won the actor a César (French Oscar). We then went to St. Jean Pied-de-Porte, which has a Citadelle, outside which we picnicked. This town also starts the Chemin de St. Jacques, one of many paths to Santiago de Compostela in Northwest Spain. We met a pilgrim from Dublin who went in to get his “passport” and plans to start his 6th chemin, tomorrow. That will be 800 km for him over the next 31 days. Lastly, we went to Charcuterie Mayté, 5 generations of charcutiers who produce jambon according to strict local tradition. M.
