Today, we went in a coach driven by M. Michel to Arnaga, which was the home of Edmond Rostand. Edmond Rostand was a writer who most famously wrote Cyrano de Bergerac. The film version with Gérard Dépardieu in the role of Cyrano won the actor a César (French Oscar). We then went to St. Jean Pied-de-Porte, which has a Citadelle, outside which we picnicked. This town also starts the Chemin de St. Jacques, one of many paths to Santiago de Compostela in Northwest Spain. We met a pilgrim from Dublin who went in to get his “passport” and plans to start his 6th chemin, tomorrow. That will be 800 km for him over the next 31 days. Lastly, we went to Charcuterie Mayté, 5 generations of charcutiers who produce jambon according to strict local tradition. M. Mayté is the brother of M. Mayté, the principal of the school. M. Garnier (Agathe’s Dad and Natara’s host Dad) has accompanied us all week; he took vacation time so that he could do this for us! Merci 😊

Inspiring Understanding of Other Cultures
Thank you for blogging about this adventure with your students, Grace. I expect it will light a fire in them to be world travelers and true global citizens. By the way, it is a dream of mine to walk the Santiago de Compostela. It will have to wait until retirement.
