This weekend I decided to head up to Yosemite. Brad came up to visit so we headed out together! 4 hours later we were at the Yosemite Bug hostel staying in a unheated tent cabin by the river. This place was set up really nice, they had a little shop where you go to check in with the essentials; tooth brushes, windchimes and rock climbing books. :) They also offered various massage and spa treatments that we didn't have time for, but maybe next time. Early the next morning we woke up and headed into Yosemite park. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. As we approached Bridalveil Falls my jaw dropped. I've never seen a waterfalls so big before and this was just the beginning. We got out and walked up to ... read more

I decided to spend my easter in Muir woods. I woke up and figured out how I was going to get there, walked outside to get to my car and oh! rain?! No!! I decided to go anyway but had to make a pit stop for an umbrella. Now the proud new owner of an overpriced purple umbrella I'm off to Muir Woods. The path was pretty straight forward until I ended up on twisty roads. I wanted to stop and enjoy to view but one second with my eyes off the road could have equaled falling off the cliff. After a slow rainy climb up the mountains I made it. 5$ admission was cheaper than my umbrella. With a trail map I was off. I ended up staying for about 4 hours walking around admiring ... read more

Today I took a Ferry from Larksburg to the San Francisco Building. If you are ever in San Francisco I recommend the ferry over driving into town. It was a nice relaxing 45 minute journey with a great view. I decided to head to China town with my backpack full of audio recording gear, a travel book and a camera. During my walk I recorded a man playing clarinet, another guy beating on metal pots and pans for peace and the traffic on the streets. I few moments/blocks later I stumbled upon the China Town gate. After taking a few pictures I decided to go in. The ambience of these streets were filled with laughter and men on the corner playing chinese instruments that resonated many blocks away, it was beautiful. My first real destination was ... read more

Big Bear Snowboarding Adventure. A group of us decided to go up to Big Bear for the weekend. A trip that usually takes 2 hours turned into 6 hours because of a terrible storm. The had to take the longest way up the mountain since roads were closed and ended up having to help push people in cars up the mountain. When we finally got there we stayed in a hostel that sadly barely had heat, BRRR!! 4am, time to go to sleep to get up a 8 for the slopes. a few of us learned and a few of us were already snowboarding pros. The weekend was full of learning pains (literally) and moments of epiphanies when snowboarding finally made sense..I'm hooked. ... read more

Taipei Adventure! It's taken some time to put up my stories of Taiwan but I figured better late than never. Last year I had the pleasure of visiting Taiwan to assist on audio for a game that I was working on at the time. I was there for 1 week and tried to get the most out of it work and fun wise as possible. Once I arrived and was situated I began to explore. I hoped on a subway and went to peace park and the Taipei 101 building. During the nights I wandered through the markets. The Shilin Market stuck out the most in my head in terms of weird food and cool items. It was around christmas time so I ended up doing all of my shopping in Taiwan. After much searching, I ... read more

After Railay we hopped on a long tail boat that took us to a bus that took us to a ferry that took quite a few hours to Ko Pha-nang. We ended up sitting on a huge Boat in the VIP section which had comfy chairs a T.V and was only 1$ more sweet! . 1 1/2 bad movies and rough seas later we arrived at Ko Phan nang. The motivation to coming here was to kite surf and attend the full moon party madness. We took a tuk tuk into town and spent quite some time walking around trying to find an available place to stay. A few days before the full moon party people come and book all the rooms so it becomes a challenge to stay on the island. After a while we ... read more

And we're off, on a van to a pier to a boat for a 45 minute boat ride to Railay. Sea Sick meds? check! We ended up sitting at the front of the boat staring at the amazing view all around. We stopped a few places on the way and arrived at Au Nang. From there we took a local's long tail boat to Railay West beach. We got there and it was paradise. Huge rocks protruding from the water, hardly any tourists, no cars or mopeds, no one selling you anything..ah paradise. We basically got off the boat and wandered down a path till it looked like it ended at a rasta run bungalow that no one was working at. We finally flagged someone down and stayed in a jungle bungalow for the night for ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Phuket October 23rd 2009

From Bangkok we took an early morning flight to Phuket. We heard there was potentially good kitesurfing there and were immediately interested. We decided to stay in Patong where all the craziness is, to get the full Phuket experience. We ended up however being a bit frustrated with the rather tourist vibe and tried to keep the fun going by taking a two day rafting adventure. When we got to the rafting destination we began by taking a tuk tuk to the beginning of the river, which was actually a dam that the locals open to create rapids to raft in. It's a free for all, tons of people and rafts. The guides look like they have a lot of fun and by the time everyone is on a raft it became more about splashing the ... read more

Thailand!!! So, After getting a new job I decided to celebrate by meeting Brad in Thailand for a few weeks before I started. I was very lucky to have actually gotten on my flight, because I was departing for Wed. at 1am which meant I needed to be at the airport Tuesday night Midnight. Thankfully everyone clued me in on this vital piece of information the day of, so after my goodbyes at EA and Dinner celebration with the Audio crew I was off! First leg of the trip was 15 hours, to Taipei, then to Bangkok. Once I arrived in Bangkok my next mission was to find Brad. After waiting for a few minutes in baggage, I quickly realized he couldn't meet me there so I walked around the airport a few times till ... read more

Mexico here we come! Okay, so for no particular reason other than to do something spontaneous we decided to pack up and head to Ensenada this weekend for a camping trip and a venture to La Bufadora. We get there with minimal traffic, drive around until we find the ocean and a camping spot, come to find out there are many camping spots, so the rest of the day we drove up to camp site after camp site. One was specifically memorable, it was a giant hill that looked far enough away from the road to be quiet, there was a huge cloud covering most of it, we all walked up to it and agreed this was the spot, until the clouds cleared and we saw it wasn't actually as beautiful and amazing as the clouds ... read more
