We got an early start, it was a little chilly, but the skies were mostly clear, so it looked to be another great day. We rode up rt. 5 toward Seattle, with a little detour through downtown Portland because I took a wrong turn. Back on the highway, traffic was light and there were very few trucks. We stopped at Mt. St. Helens State Park, but the clouds obscured the mountain, so we didn’t ride the 27 miles up too the lookout point. We continued up rt. 5, Bill and Rick turned off at Mt. Rainer and I continued on to Seattle. I have been looking forward to seeing Seattle again ever since we decided to take this trip. I was curious to see how much it had changed since Microsoft came to town. Traffic was ... read more

https://picasaweb.google.com/101506993269424417039/Day16?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCPCPwcDJ3ZflXQ&feat=directlink When we looked outside in the morning we saw clouds and a little drizzle, very disappointing after so many days of perfect weather. Because the internet connection at the Rodeway Inn was so terrible, I wasn’t able to find a room in our next stop, Seattle. Nor was I able to post a blog. I figured that when I got to Seattle, I could find a wifi hotspot to book a room. Bill was having trouble with his starter, it sounded like there was someone inside the motor beating it with a sledge hammer. He called a Harley dealer near where we were staying and they told him that this is a problem Harley knows about and that they have changed the part in newer models. They also told him that it is not covered ... read more

Stayed in Nampa, Idaho to get an oil change, and take a much needed break. I spent the rest of the day relaxing in the hot tub and pool. Bill went to the Harley dealer to get something to remove some adhesive he spilled on his tank when he repaired his handgrip. Rick spent part of the day uploading his pictures. The weather was beautiful but we didn’t ride anywhere except to go to dinner.... read more

https://picasaweb.google.com/101506993269424417039/Day12?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCOiY7qu68PyAvAE&feat=directlink This is a little longer than usual because I have a lot more time to write it. We got a late start because Bill and I shipped some things home that we weren’t going to need to free up space and the UPS store didn’t open until 8 am. I also shipped all of the souvenirs I have been buying. Iowa falls seemed to be a nice small town with a population of 80,000. Everyone was friendly. That’s pretty much true of everyone we have met since leaving the east coast. While I was planning this trip, and trying to imagine what it would be like I thought that I would be talking with a lot of different people and spending a fair amount of time reading. Neither is true. I haven’t even looked at ... read more

He maintained two suites and an office here. The décor was authentic old western. The bar back was carved cherry with a carved buffalo head. There were many animals mounted on the wall, including elk, deer, moose, and sheep. We left Cody about 8:45 (so much for an early start) the ride began through a canyon formed by the Shoshone River. At the risk of being redundant, it was beautiful. Again, another great day ahead, a little bit cool, but sunny, not perfect, but close enough. After we left the canyon we entered Yellowstone Park – everywhere I looked there was a picture begging to be taken. Beautiful, stupendous magnificent, spectacular, I am sure that every superlative in the ... read more
