This entry will be short and rather uninteresting. I had exams for 2 weeks. Well, I had 2 exams in a 2-week period. They were nice and well-spaced out so I had lots of time to study and be well-prepared going into them. Probably the funniest story is that I thought my first exam was on wednesday, only to find out on monday that it was actually on the tuesday. Luckily I was already ready, so losing that day didn't impair me at all. My water auditing exam was my biggest stress, since I needed a good grade to make sure I was successful in the unit. I memorized so many random pieces of information. The exam went decently, but the multiple choice section was made up of mostly questions from the TEXTBOOK which weren't ... read more

Week 12 of Classes Alright, week 12, the last week of classes. What did I do? Well, I had 2 big assignments to get done, so you can imagine what I mostly did. Although school here is really a lot easier than back home, so despite being busy, I wasn't stressed. Wednesday was a fun day - we went on a field trip with my water auditing class...to a mine! And we weren't allowed outside due to the danger, so instead we were taken around in a mine company-supplied bus (it was fancy!) I may have fallen asleep somewhere near the tailings dam... After that field trip, I decided to attend the 'Study Abroad Farewell', thinking I would get to say goodbye to some of the people I'd met who were leaving after one semester. ... read more

I have some sad news for faithful blog readers. Since my digital camera was broken, I could only bring my film camera on this trip. I was going to get the pictures put on CD when I got them developed, but I forgot, so only 1 roll was put on a CD. So a lot of my stories are picture-less until I get home and show you all my photo albums. Thursday: The Departure I left for Kuala Lumpur in the late afternoon on Thursday. I was flying on the luxurious Malaysian Airlines where you not only get your own TV set, you get movies and TV shows on demand! So I watched a Bollywood movie which cut out at the intermission and Happy Feet and an episode of Arrested Development. The flight itself was ... read more

Alright so now I can tell the story of why I've been so busy for the past...long time...It's not a very exciting story, since it mostly involves "I was sitting at my laptop working on my essay/report." Probably the most exciting day was May 8th, when I went back to the Perth Zoo to meet with the maintenance manager to discuss their sustainability initiatives. This was for my Sustainable Development Project, one of the classes I was taking this semester. A visitor! My one and only visitor to date is my Mom, who arrived in Perth on May 11th. I went on quite the mission to go meet her at the airport. If I haven't made this clear yet, perhaps I should say it again: The Perth public transit system was designed to discourage people ... read more

Alright, this week was a long time ago, and the minute details of it have since been lost. I know I went to class, and skating, and I did have an informal oral presentation. That pretty much sums up Monday-Thursday. Night out with Gloria! So when I was on my search to find a place to live in this suburban jungle, I got to meet some interesting person. And then I ended up living with a couple of them. When I met Gloria I remember her saying that she wanted someone like me to move in. She'd always been living with (no offence or racism intended, you all know it's true) anti-social asians who kind of kept to themselves. So what has resulted is that she doesn't get out much. So I intended to put ... read more

Alright it's getting to be busy time here in Perth, so I won't be able to update too too frequently. Hopefully once I'm on holiday in 1 month and 5 days (but who's counting?) I'll be able to get fully caught up. Until then, we continue to play the catch-up game... The Water Audit Begins On Monday morning I began my formal water audit of a building on campus as part of requirements for my water auditing class. I thought I had a great place to do it - a fairly small building, no pesky irrigation system to worry about, and only staff and grad students as my occupants. But of course, the truth came crashing down on me quite quickly. I had been almost too optimistic when I had completed my flow rate tests ... read more

Alright, I've gotten VERY behind in these blog entries, so it's time to play some catch-up... An Essay The weekend upon my return from the Northwest, I was on essay lockdown in order to finish an essay for my Nature-Based Tourism class. I had to create a management plan for a park, and I decided to do Temagami in Ontario, in particular Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park. I tell you this, because I recieved a VERY creepy e-mail the other day. I'm on the Ontario Parks mailing list, and in my most recent e-mail, this was the first article: "Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Dafne, for a Backcountry Adventure we recommend Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park is a wilderness preserve like no other. At almost three times the size of Perth, Australia with 72,400 hectares, this expansive park is ... read more

This blog entry was lots as well in the recent crashes, and I've only been able to uncover the very beginning of the text. But I'm putting it back up so the pictures (which weren't lost) can be seen. Maybe someday I'll re-write the rest of this entry, although that's somewhat unlikely... The last two days of our trip were purely travel days. We awoke bright and early in Newman to a gorgeous sunrise before packing up camp and heading out into the outback. We ate lunch in Meekatharra and finished our day at the Wogarno Sheep Station. We had luxury on our last night - we could sleep in a barn or under the stars - so NO TENT SET UP REQUIRED!! The sheep station was really nice and the owners were very welcoming. There ... read more

We had our one and only sleep-in of the trip on this fine morning. Unfortunately, we had become so accustomed to waking up at the crack of dawn that most people were unable to sleep in. I would have like to have slept longer, but alas, the noise woke me up. We had a slow, relaxing morning of the usual getting up, taking down camp, and eating breakfast. We loaded our stuff into the buck but before we drove away, we headed for one last gorge hike. Not much to say, it was a standard hike, no craziness. We had a nice swim in the pool at the end, which had both waterfalls AND a place to jump off. The flies were HORRIBLE anywhere but in the pool, and since I had lost my sunglasses ... read more

As shown in the last blog entry, we awoke bright and early to the sun rising over ToPri. We packed up our stuff and left the luxury of our campgrounds (complete with electricity, showers, running water...) and headed deeper into the Outback. The coast was far behind us when we pulled into Karijini National Park. Kim decided we would first do a couple of hikes before heading to our campsite in the park. So we stopped and headed out. We needed our close-toed shoes (and prime fly protection) for this hike. I can't really describe the beauty of this park - luckily I can attach lots of pictures! It was a challenging hike down through the first gorge. We had to do something called the "spider walk" where there's a little stream flowing beneath you ... read more
