3/10/09 Woke up early and hit snooze for as long as i could Had a wonderfully hot shower then got ready to go to the kids school play/show It was in the real theatre in Cusco and was a pretty big deal All the kids in the whole school took part, from 2/3 up to 11 it was soooooo cute filmed bits of it the costumes were really good and apparently the kids had made them thenselves! 2/10/09 Woke up and for some reason the water to my bathroom had been cut off! Shivering in my PJ´s i went down to the house and told Ninoska she said i could shower there in their bathroom bit alkward but i needed a wash!!! froze my butt off walking back up to my room in my towel!! brrrrrrr Walked to work and had a relatively quiet day One of the nurses´ mum and grandma came in today...the one who´d made the adobe de pollo Also the guy who´s paperwork i spend ages looking for in SIS came in with the elderly lady who´s thing it was He was so thankfull and sweet Kept kissing my hand and thanking me and made his mum kiss my hand and all that Weird but quite sweet Did stacks ... read more

1/10/09 woke up all snuggly and cosy :) senor started up his rediculously loud music at 6 not happy avocado again for breakfast fought gagging just to get some veg inside me!! Walked to work and it was lovely and sunny :) Called sara on way and arranged lunch Work was busy again this morning, a little boy wandered into triaje which isnt unusual but this one was clearly special needs and he started chattering away to me and the other patients. then quite randomly he came over to me, hugged me then walked out the room all the nurses cracked up very strange spent the afternoon making cotton wool balls...for some reason they buy the cotton wool in sheets...why? i dont know they also think that after we have rolled all the cotton...its still sterile...erm.....no! ... read more

30/09/09 Today Ninoska forgot to drop me at the roundabout so i ended up walking double the distance to work...in half the time! haha!! Not happy though!! thats God paying me back for being lazy and getting a lift! And i had ALL my washing with me!! all 5kg of it!! work was hecktic again for the first few hours then it settled down one of the nurces told me to go into the back room where she shut the door and produced a steaming pot of chicken and soup and a huge bag of bread!! Its called Adobo de pollo and its ¡MUY RICO! it was so tasty and lovely it curbed the midmornign hunger stabs! it was a bit weird though. all 4 of us used the one spoon to drink the juice, we ... read more

29/09/09 Well after such an exertion yesterday i had the luxuary of being dropped right to the door of my work today! YES!! was directed to Triaje...Triage in english im guessing! I was put to work straight away weighing and measuring the patients and recording their details felt useful for the first hour and half or so when it was a mad rush of around 100patients then at around 10 it went dead quiet and i ended up doing very little i chatted to the nurces who are sooooooo nice!!! i really like it here they were talking about going out dancing and the differences between here and england went home early as it was so quiet went with ruben and ninoska to pick the kids up then we dropped ruben at work we went to ... read more

Its been ages since iver written so sorry for the backlog!! 28/09/09 well i walked to work today in an attempt to prepare myself for the inca trail. my theory that if i can walk the 30min walk in crappy unsupportive flat shoes with no difficulty then an 88km trek in walking boots over 4 days should be easy...hmm there were only a few scans and patients today so the Dr was teaching me stuff it was really fun he was teaching me how to use all the little equipments and how to take blood pressure he told me about listening to the sounds the different valves of the heart make and whats normal and whats not and where to hear them he gave me 2 test results...which im sure you shouldnt do...one was a blood ... read more

Well Saturday night i met Sara in Jack´s and she brought another volunteer who is working at her school called Gigi, she´s french and speaks no english so all dinner we had to talk in spanish...pretty interesting. Well dinner was unbelivable!! I had a cheese,tomato and pesto toasty...mmmmmmmmmmmm! I also had a smoothy and milkshake and they were unreal! so tasty!! then we went to nortons in the plaza there are always little kids selling fingerpuppets and its really hard not to buy them, its become a bit of a joke now. sara said last night they were like pokemon and youve ´gotta catch them all´!!! well we had a few drinks in happy hour and decided we were too tired to go to regge night at 7 angelitos so went home. early start for the ... read more

Well i woke up super early...not happy about it. Went and had breakfast and Ninoska invited me to go to the market with her to do the food shopping. We dropped Ruben off at work and the kids at school, then Ninoska, Ronald....her like officeboy/slave and i went to the market It was amazing! it is huge and there is so much produce we walked around and tried the fruit then bought it delicious oranges, pinapples, watermelon i tried a strange fruit but i cant remember what its called it looks like a cotton bud and is sort of fluffy it had a big pip inside, a little like a lychee its sweet but had such a strange texture the smells and sounds of the market were lovely and all the women were in traditional dress ... read more

Well i met Sara in the Plaza de Armas and we were chatting about where to go for dinner when a guy came up to us and offered us a leaflet for a restaurant called ´KM 0´ in san blas, which when we presented it supposedly gave us a free pisco sour. enticed by the though of a free drink we hicked the hill up to san blas....sooooooo breathless by the end we stopped in a few quaint little shops on the way to browse alpacca hats and scarfs and things Well we got to the restaurant, presented the voucher and.......apparently the leaflet that advertised the restaurant gave us a free drink in the bar in the plaza....we were not happy!! we decided to eat there anyway, it was a tai restaurant the menu had some ... read more

Another day in ultrasound the first patient came in and while she was changing into her gown....trans-vaginal scan.....the doctor said something to me i thought he said would you like to have a scan i was a bit freaked out so said i didnt understand turns out he was asking if i wanted to perform the scan i gloved up and, although he had to guide me, i performed my first scan!! exciting!! this woman had cysts or something i did another few trans scans...one lady was 3 months preganant and the baby looked so cute!! also did some abdominal scans on pregant women ive got used to setting the equipment up and finding the babys head and heart and legs and all the things we have to measure and take pictures of it really cool ... read more
