The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people halfway. --Henry Boye February 11, Friday. We decided to take a cooking class at 10AM and learn about the wonderful jambalaya, shrimp pie and banana Forster. For $20 it was a bargain, we received the recipe, watched it being made and eat a wonderful meal. After our cooking class, we wandered through the Riverwalk mall. We decided to take the taxi ferry over to Algiers Point, across the Mississippi. Mardi Gras World has all of the floats from many Mardi Gras’ on display and they explain how they are made and utilized. We had some of King’s cake, a very sweet cinnamon cake with lots of icing and a baby Jesus (doll) hidden inside. If your slice has the “Jesus” you get a ... read more

The rewards of the journey far outweigh the risk of leaving the harbor. --Unknown February 10, Thursday. Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Booobbbb…….(Just be glad you don’t have to hear me sing!) After the birthday boy opened his presents, we were on our way to New Orleans. The morning portion of the tour included a drive complete with narration from one end of town to the other. Meanwhile we were making notes on where we wanted to return on foot. The City Park in New Orleans was a surprise. It is huge, and has many wonderful attractions, however it is a good distance from the heart of downtown. Our first stop on foot was to get a coffee and beignet (a French donut-no hole with lots of powered sugar). Our second stop was ... read more

I am one of those who never knows the direction of my journey until I have almost arrived. --Anna Louise Strong web sites Grayton Beach State Park February 8,2005 Grayton Beach is another great beach, but for some reason we can’t find the photos from this location. We met a gentleman with a Sprinter, he had it converted by a company in Texas. He had a plan of what he wanted. His ideas were no bathroom or stove. The workman ship was very good. With limited space, everything is a compromise, it just depends on what you want. I am sure we will see more Sprinters, they are becoming very popular. Through travel I first became aware of the outside world; it was through travel that I found my own introspective way into becoming a ... read more

It is good to have an end to journey towards, but it is the journey that matters in the end. --Ursula K. LeGuin . web sites Emerald Coast RV Beach Resort Locating a campground with wireless service is a find. So we moved from St. Andrew’s to Emerald Coast RV Beach Resort. Wow! What a wonderful resort. It has paved sites, manicured lawns, laundry facilities, immaculate bath/shower, pool, wireless, and more. This is a clean up day, while I hit the laundry room Bob finished up the travelblogs. Of course, we found time for a swim in the heated pool. Now we are getting ready for dinner out and a movie. Our dinner was at Shuckem’s Oyster House. We had a sampling of different cooked oysters in the shell. Both of us liked them. The ... read more

Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and enjoy the journey. --Babs Hoffman WEB Site St Andrews State Park The morning was a bit cool and windy, and I was off for a bike ride, and “Computer Bob” was busy organizing the blog. Our first PM stop was to Diver’s Den, where we purchased snorkel equipment. Hopefully we will use it in Hawaii. We had some lunch at Scampy’s and then moved on to the beach. Kite flying was on our mind, but the wind had subsided. So we just walked, until Bob suddenly ran and jumped into the ocean. It was a bit nippy. Back at the campsite we had a light meal and some Super Bowl. ... read more

The Panhandle of Florida’s West coast, the forgotten coast “Wherever there is a human being there is an opportunity for kindness”--- Seneca We decided to bike today. The morning was cool so we biked out of the park some 4.8 miles and then into the town of St. George. It was sunny and a great day to bike. We stopped at some real estate offices to check on all the signs we saw. We discovered most of the signs were for rentals and the other were investments, an ocean front lot goes for one million, so much for our thoughts of getting a little place on the beach. We can’t complain the state park will always be there, I hope. Our trip to the end of the island ran into a private gated community, bikers ... read more

Click on the to see more about the state park St George State Park “ Always be a little kinder than necessary” -James m. Barre We walked around Manatee Springs in the AM, the water is so warm, I can understand why the manatees like to come here. It is a wonderful place to picnic and walk the boardwalks and view the rare birds nestled along the Suwannee River. We didn’t see any manatee but there were lots of vultures, doing their clean up job. We fueled up and continued our journey west and north along the panhandle coast. We arrived at St. George State Park. This area is called the forgotten coast of Florida, and that is a wonderful secret. The campground is just beautiful, it is set back some 4.5 miles from the park ... read more

” If everything’s under control, you’re going too slow.” Mario Andretti Lazy Days was an interesting campground, and filled with huge rigs that cost up to $750,000. We had a small breakfast and visited the camp store, nothing special. We had been toying with the idea of purchasing a GPS system for the Bothan, guess we are tired of getting lost. We found one we really liked, it mounts on the dashboard and is activated by touch or remote and has a voice system. So we ordered one to be sent our campsite at St. Andrews. We started out on I-75 and decided to take the scenic road Rt 44 over to Rt. 19. We stopped to have some tint put on the windows of the Bothan, and discovered a front headlight was out, so it ... read more

“ You can’t try to do things; you simply must do them” Ray Bradbury First thing we did this AM was to return to Siesta Beach for a walk. It was a cool, breezy, sunny morning. I think we would like to return her one-day. After our shower we were off to meet Bob friends in Ellenton, a reunion from his workplace. We made one stop at Mixon’s orchards, what a super place, I had my first kumquat. There is a method for eating these goodies. Wash well, roll back and forth in your hands, pop the entire thing in your mouth and chew. The inside is sour and the skin is sweet so it is a contest for one’s taste buds to figure out what to do. We had fun tasting oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, ... read more

All those that wander are not lost We left the Oscar Sherer State Park and headed back to the 24/7 to finish up our computer work, then drove north to Sarasota to meet Bob and Sara Zavos. We met at the Ringling Museum, besides their regular collection, there was a great Ansel Adams display of his black and white photographs of the natural beauties of our country. We found our campground in Siesta Key and went for a bike ride to Crescent/Siesta Beach, again voted one of the best beaches in our country. The sand is white and fine, like confectionery sugar, and the beach is quite wide and very lovely. The four of us has a nice meal at Sweet Tomatoes, wonderful salads and pasta, plus. We drove back to the sailing club for ... read more
