We are sitting in the Woomera Caravan Park at the present time. We spent our procrastination day at Coober Pedy planning where to go as we headed south, then after we took off Thursday morning I finally admitted to GMan that what I really wanted was to stay in one place with reasonable mobile coverage whilst much loved brother-in-law Robert is having his main aortic valve replaced. He agreed so we have booked in here for 4 nights. Robert is due to go to theatre tomorrow morning at 7 am so lots of positive thoughts please everyone. Barbara has advised him that as he is getting a cow valve he is no longer allow to eat steak as it will be cannibalism. We were not unhappy to leave Coober Pedy because the flies were dreadful where ... read more

For those who are new to this blog if you double click on the first photograph you will get all the photos in a slide show. We headed off from Island Lagoon lookout and headed off into Woomera after having to tighten up a jubilee clip on our water lines, this involved removing part of the bash plating underneath. Water seems to be our nemesis. We wanted some tomatoes and bread so headed off to the supermarket where tomatoes were cheaper than buying them in Clare! $4.10 kg, invested in three and some fresh spinach leaves. Tomatoes on our sandwiches for lunch. Woomera is such a clean and tidy town. Not a thing out of place. We wandered around the outdoor display of rockets and weapons which were developed and launched during the stations heyday. Visited ... read more

We are not really at Woomera, but we have to put a place name in to be able to publish and it is the closest place I can find. Headed out at 9:15 am Saturday morning later than expected. For the first time in ages we both overslept. Dropped over to say goodbye to Sheryl and she must have overslept as well as there was no answer when I knocked. We are amazed at how quickly the countryside has turned green. Farmers south of Port Pirie who sowed early have already had very good germination of their crops. We just trundled along at our normal 80 kms an hour, straight through Port Augusta and onto the Stuart Highway. Even a truck with a pilot vehicle saying wide load passed us. We think they hate us. For ... read more

We are heading out Saturday morning after three weeks of hell. Everything which could go wrong did, culminating with GMan being stung by a bee again. As a result he has one arm which looks like Mr Atlas and the other like Mr Stick. The Dr's just tell him to keep popping anti-histamines. We have a very large supply under the bed with all the other medications for the quarantine people to laugh about when they inspect the vehicle. Of course we store them right next to the red wine. Not everything got done, but what the heck it will still be waiting when we get home on 20th September. A broad overview of the semi planned trip is - up the Stuart Highway to Henbury Meteorite Craters, down to Curtin Springs, across the great Central ... read more

The area at the oval in Cadell was very nice indeed. Just 7 bays, all with power, one is permanently occupied by the caretakers. There is even a dump point. We spent a nice quiet evening watching more Foyle's War and in the end the rain did not come to anything. The amenities here are exceptional. They are actually the change rooms for the oval. My oh my, the footy players must be very different. Terracotta tiles on the floor, jarrah surrounds on the HUGE mirror over the three square handbasins. Jarrah seating. Very posh indeed and not a sweaty jock strap in sight. We both had a giggle because we compared notes and discovered that each set of rooms had a large sign under an electric switch which said EX-FAN. We wondered if anyone had ... read more

At Conargo we parked at the oval in a free camp site. We were faced once more with having to back the van into a parking space at Conargo and finally we managed. We think we are getting better at this. We discovered that the loos attached to the caravan park had no water so after dinner we headed towards the hotel as it was a Saturday night, suspiciously dark. When we got there we found a handwritten notice on the door telling us that due to tragic circumstances the hotel was currently closed and would be reopened as soon as feasible. Oh well we tried, it just meant that we had to walk an extra 300 meters to the brand new posh ones over the other side of the sports ground. So back to the ... read more

We headed off from the showgrounds around 9:30 am and continued along the road to Wagga. As we couldn't book into the motel until 2 pm we stopped in a rest stop to read, have lunch and even a nanna nap getting back on the road and arriving at the motel at just after 2 pm. GMan booked us in and then we discovered what the receptionist meant as being able to park in the back corner. A site reserved for maintenance vehicles in the elbow of a small L shaped parking area and a curve to be able to back into. Well between Graham behind the wheel and me giving instructions he managed to get it into the park with the minimum of fuss. We were chuffed. Up to the room and discovered it was ... read more

Very little to report today. The morning started with a search to find the boys who were finally found chasing ducks down by the small inlet below our caravan. I will never allow them to sleep outside the van again, they got up early and nicked off. We headed east along the Newell Highway through the most boring countryside around. It may be boring but some of the place names are fantastic. We stopped for lunch at my personal favourite Mulberygong rest stop. Just a truckies pull over, but we had a great sandwich and a cold beer. It was darn hot, lord alone knows how hot, but darn hot. When we got to the Hay Plains at least we didn't see the big watering systems going pumping precious water into the air, such an ineffective ... read more

We headed off and aimed to have lunch at the Overland Corner Hotel near Waikerie. I have wanted to do that ever since I saw the quaint little place. We got to within 50 kms of it and Graham put the place we wanted to be into the GPS and thus begins the story of the Pretty Route or the GPS is Not Always Right. We became suspicious when we were directed to the Cadel Ferry to cross the mighty Murray. Once you turn onto the road you are committed is trailing, it is too narrow to turn back. So onto the ferry we went, I love these crossings they are so gentle and peaceful albeit for just a few minutes. It was pleasing to note that there is a lot more water in the Murray ... read more

When Shirley and Dave emailed to see if we wanted to join them for the Charles Stuart University Vintage Dinner (wine of course) to be held in Wagga Wagga on 9 November we of course accepted. It will be great to catch up with them again and we will also be joined by another friend Jenny - we haven't seen her since Dave's 60th birthday and that was coming up 10 years ago. With reference to our little friend on the right, he has been elusive since we came home in August - hiding all over the house. He has been told, he WILL be returning to WA very soon. Wagga Wagga, (pronounced Woga Woga and shortened to Woga for our overseas readers) is 963 kms away from where we live in Brinkworth. The van was ... read more
