We headed off from Mallala this morning and got about 40 kms down the road when Rudi phoned and asked if we could come to Adelaide and sort everything out, so we turned about and headed back in. Cruisemaster were very unhelpful and would only pay for 4 new shock absorbers so Rudi and Delores had to bear the brunt of the compensation and they really proved how they care about their customers. We have been very lucky that they give excellent after sales service. We came to a very amicable agreement and parted on very good terms with them. In fact the whole exercise was conducted in a calm and reasonable manner which is fantastic considering my volatile temper and you may not believe it but I live in fear of GMan's temper. We are not in Crystal Brook at all, but in Mallala which is not in the list of places on this travel site. There is a nice free camping site at the town oval where the only thing you need to pay for is to have a hot shower. This is an excellent idea for small towns because it draws travellers into the town where we spend money in their town. We were talking to another caravanner here last evening and we got to the where are you from bit and when we said Brinkworth he told us he had stayed in our little park in 2012. He also said that "some woman on a bike" came and advised him they were only supposed to be there 72 hours. He rang the council who said it ... read more

Graham and I spent the last evening in Kununurra with Sue and Clive, so nice to just spend time talking to them one to one. Headed out of the caravan park next morning after asking that they put more toilet paper and hand soap into the facilities as two out of three nights they ran out! and btw the sites are too small for modern vans. I did also compliment them on the fact that we were able to wash both the van and the car. We only planned to go as far as Timber Creek tonight (12th) We stayed here on our way to Kununurra a few weeks ago. At the time there were only 5 vans in the park, what a change it was chockers by the time we went to bed. We went ... read more

We are parked up in the Ivanhoe CP in Kununurra in an extremely small site. Thank heavens the one behind us was empty when we arrived because we could not have backed in there. Same Same for Shirley and Dave. With our van and annex deployed there is not enough room to park our car so it has to hang out onto the road. Rushed out on the morning of the 10th and did some shopping most especially to get lotto for Tuesday and Thursday so Mary, GMan and I can continue to dream of great things. At 10:30 am all four of us headed out to Lake Argyle area where we spent some time checking out the relocated Argyle homestead. It is far more sophistocated that when we last visited it 23 years ago, poshed ... read more

Whilst we were waiting in Derby for the parts for our repairs to arrive we caught sight of this wonderful sign on the back of a Vista Camper Trailer ($$$). We dropped the caravan off to the welder at 7:35 am on 5th and then had to amuse ourselves as best we could until we got news of whether the parts had arrived or that the repairs were completed. We set off for the jetty where we walked out to do what most people don’t do, inspect the low tide. This was just as fascinating as the high tide. Especially when we finally worked out that the three trailer fuel tanker out on the jetty was refuelling a ship which could not be seen because it was completely below the decking of the jetty. You can ... read more

Believe it or not a blog without photos. 30th. We visited the Kimberley School of the Air, what an incredibly interesting experience. We had a guided tour of the facility and the school system was explained to us. We then piled into a studio and watched and listened in to a lesson for year 2/3's. Gone are the radio's. The teacher and students are all connected via satillite and the internet and use a program to interact. Everyone is seeing exactly the same thing and the teacher has put together lessons in powerpoint which is broadcast as they move through the learning experience. One comment by the teacher is that by introducing this technology which is only available to the students and not using the radio a community link has been lost. People used to listen ... read more

Wth the free camp site at Lennard River so crowded on the 4th night we needed to move on, anyway we were running out of supplies..... We headed off from Lennard River at 7:25 am 27th along the last of the Gibb expecting the road to be all bitumin as indicated by the map. Wrong again, about half of it was dirt, but it was in good condition and we were able to make very good time. Along the way I kept seeing what looked like new shoots which had germinated as a result of the rains and were pushing through what looked like a flower bud. I got GMan to stop and got out to take a photo and it turned out to be some type of fungus. We were booking in to the caravan ... read more

On 15thMay we went for a farewell dinner (roast and yummy ice cream for dessert) to Sue, Clive and Jens and determined we would meet for Christmas in a couple of years. It has been wonderful to catch up with the Bolvig side of my family again. The boys especially liked the dessert and playing with Molly the cat. JoJo the bird was not impressed. We left Kununurra on 16th May with our new windscreen in place and headed west towards the beginning of the Gibb River Road. The first thing we came across was the dam wall blocked off by a work crew and we had to wait to be able to cross. The actual wall is not very wide at all which surprised us. Once across we drove to the beginning of the Gibb ... read more

We really liked the Timber Creek Caravan Park. Small park, plenty of shade, amenities fine etc. It has a lovely grassed area down by the creek which has fresh water crocs in it. On our way from the Buchanan Highway to Timber Creek we noticed the first of the boab trees. Because our booking in Kununurra started on 10th May we decided to stay in the cool for an extra day and lingered. Still no sight seeing as we will be doing it with Dave and Shirley one the way back through. Here we did a big clean up on the van. The amount of dust getting into the interior has diminished considerably with all our efforts on tracking down and blocking little leaks. I swept, vacuumed, dusted etc. I like the size of this house ... read more

Late in the afternoon the day we arrived at Bitter Springs we went for a walk down to the springs and the surrounding vegetation. The area is very lush and pretty. The springs themselves are small but have been set up with areas where you can view the bottom if you choose not to swim. Apparently there are turtles on the bottom. The most noticeable things about the area is that the vegetation has not been degenerated by the sheer number of people who overrun the Mataranka thermal area and it has no fruit bats, hence no stench. Personally we were put off by the amount of algae along the edges of the springs themselves. That did not deter anyone else but us. When we went through Mataranka in 1990 it was smelly but lush and ... read more
