Church Towns Another interesting blog of fascinating aspects of Swedish life...church towns. Makes a lot of sense to uphold the spiritual unity of the populace in sparsely populated regions. And raising the relevance of Sedna as a dwarf planet. The planets have always fascinated me. I'll have to check that out.
My pleasure Sweden is much more than Abba music and Bergman movies. It is nature and culture and so much more. Hope you make it this way some time in the future (and do make sure to make it here in summer) /Ake
A leap into a different world What I didn't write about that bridge was that when we went there it was like leaping into a different world. It felt like we sort of went off the grid and got warped into a 1950-ies. The bridge in itself was part of it, they don't make bridges like that anymore, but the village at the end of the bridge was what really gave that impression. The streets were so narrow there that it feels like they predated car traffic. For a while we thought we were in an episode of the Twillight Zone. It really was a surreal experience. /Ake
What an interesting place A blog full of fascinating places to visit in Dalarna Region...interesting facts and highlights...an absorbing read. Thank you.
An amazing city with something for everyone I lived in Hong Kong (Kowloon side) for a year and loved every minute of it! Chungking Mansions and areas around Nathan Road used to be quite rough and notorious for drug deals, but I think they've managed to clean it up quite well. Sounds like you covered a lot of ground in your time there. What were your favourite restaurants/dishes?
We went to several different restaurants We went to several different restaurants so we didn't have a favorite. But the dim sum restaurant we went to one evening was really something special. Don't remember its name unfortunately. / Ake

What a light show! I love light shows, but I've never seen anything as amazing as your video--great how the lights reflected off the clock tower, too! So interesting about the Michelin restaurants--thanks for doing that research, so I don't have to (as if I could)! And I guess Ake on the exercise bars tells you how short everyone else must be--pretty funny--clearly, he can see over the crowds!
See over people I am not taller than the tallest Chinese. However, few Chinese have ever seen anyone taller than me. So when I am in China people tend to stare at me and people sometimes want to take photos of me.
I once walked a small backstreet in Beijing with a Chinese women. She noticed all the staring (which I don't anymore) and felt uncomfortable. She thought they were staring at her. Oh, poor thing. She was walking next to a close to two meters tall European. Those who stared weren't even aware of that she was there. /Ake
Hong Kong 1995 was in Hongkong too and also stayed in the Chungking Mansion. There was one police razzia at night but generally no problem. I also visited the walled city and the peak and especially liked the harbour ferries. At that time I arrived with a night ferry coming down the pearl river from Guangzhou and continued eastwards. In a second visit in 2004 I arrived with a ferry from Macao and continued by train to Guangzhou and further by bus Guilin. Unfortunately I don't have and photos any more and did not create a TB entry. I would love to do an IT project there as I am an IT consultant.
I've only transitioned through the HK airport so I haven't seen Hong Kong or Kowloon for that matter. I'm not a fan of cities but I think youve made it sound interesting, so now I will work it into my next plans! Singapore first though.
Hong Kong One part of China we have not yet visited but your take on walled cities -v- progress captured my imagination to make sure we take in HK some day. Thanks Ake.
What I didn't mention Hong Kong has one more thing to offer which is not mentioned in the blog. Just to walk the streets and take in the life was quite an experience too. /Ake
So beautiful and so funny! The churches and old buildings are gorgeous, but I always think those fake places in the casinos so bizarre though your suite was splendid! Ake--glad your knee is better, and you two could go for a run, and as usual, your tunnel photos are fabulous! Love the Hello Kitty restaurant.
We are Emma Holmbro and Ake Dahllof. We live in Stockholm, Sweden.
We have travelled more or less regularly since the mid 1990-ies and it seems like the more we travel the more difficult it is to decide where to go next. Not because we are running out of places to visit but because we find more places we want to go to faster than we manage to travel to them.
Some of the things from our travel bucket list we have ticked off since we started this blog in 2006 are
