On the road again... Lovely to be reading of your overseas travels again! You must have really enjoyed this first trip out of the country in a long time. How lucky to get a tour of the Parliament building, it looks very ornate. We visited the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia, and seeing this one you posted from Tallinn made me wonder how may other cathedrals / monuments in that part of the world are named after that Russian prince :)
Tallinn 2022 Yay - you are travelling abroad again! Great news, and well done! It's nice to visit somewhere one has already been, and I imagine it was interesting revisiting again after these last two years! I hope this is one of many future trips abroad for you both! 😊
We are slowly starting to go abroad again The trip to Tallinn was the first of, at least, three trips abroad this year. At least we have one trip to Spain planned for Easter and our summer holiday we plan to spend in Netherlands and other countries on the European continent. /Ake
Swedish Gems Aw, lovely little places not far from Stockholm, they all sound wonderful to visit. After reading many of your Sweden blogs, I can now relate my own experiences to your Swedish adventures - two years ago just before the world changed, I also visited the Stockholm Archipelago, around Tyresö. I now have plenty of other places in Sweden I'd like to visit, thanks to your wonderful travel blogs on your beautiful country 😊
Thank you so much for reading our blog One of the reasons we write this blog is to inspire people to travel. Occationally we find interesting places that we write about. We are very happy that you you keep reading the blog and we also hope that we can inspire you to visit one or two places we've visited. You sure make us want to visit some of the places you write about. /Ake
Personal Museum Tour Wow, how fortunate you were to get your very own personal tour of this museum. I imagine you indeed got to learn much more from the owner himself. I enjoy off-the-beaten-track locations, so I'm sure I would have loved this too. Nostalgia often brings back lovely memories 😊
He told us a lot He both talked about specific items and explained them and his own reasons for starting the collection in the first place. It was very interesting to listen to his stories. /Ake
Miscellaneous Sweden Once again we've enjoyed following along on your travel. You continue to give us ideas of things to see when we visit your country.
Täby church is worth visiting Täby church is a true highlight, one that has totally gone under the radar for me until last year. It is quite simple to visit it from Stockholm. The rest of the places in that blog are just random nice places that there are thousands of in Sweden. /Ake
How it should be I watch in horror the barbarity of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and this sublime pic from a country not far from the conflict brings it into high relief and could not be a greater contrast. Just saying.
We were in Ukraine in 2009 We traveled in Ukraine four weeks in 2009. It is sickening to follow the news from the places we visited back then. People I talked to then are now engaged in a war. /Ake
I loved those frescoes The frescoes in Täby church are very well preserved. Possibly the best preserved anywhere by Albertus Pictor. And he painted quite a few churches in Sweden in his lifetime. /Ake
Place Names I know exactly what you mean, Ake. It only dawned on me a couple of years ago that the name "Newcastle" came from the fact that when it was named, the English had just built a "new castle" there, lol...!
We are Emma Holmbro and Ake Dahllof. We live in Stockholm, Sweden.
We have travelled more or less regularly since the mid 1990-ies and it seems like the more we travel the more difficult it is to decide where to go next. Not because we are running out of places to visit but because we find more places we want to go to faster than we manage to travel to them.
Some of the things from our travel bucket list we have ticked off since we started this blog in 2006 are
Angel Falls in Ven... full info
