We love street art You found a marvelous collection of street art. I'm always amazed because I would think it is much harder to create on these surfaces and on such large canvass.
We love Quebec City We long to return to Quebec and have often dreamed of staying at Chateau Frontenac. Maybe someday. The places you stayed sound marvelous. Accommodation does impact the fun on a trip. We love staying in unique places. Thanks for taking us along and allow us to rethink our memories.
Reliving memories I absolutely love when I read a blog entry published by someone else and get flooded with memories from a trip a made myself many years ago. I hope the memories our blog entry brought back made you happy. /Ake
Quebec City Quebec City has been on my list for a while, particularly its Château Frontenac. The city looks beautiful, I can see the French influence. It looks like you chose some wonderful accommodation options, a big part of any journey and experience I think, so I feel it is important to choose well. The Montmoroncy Falls look spectacular!
Bigger and better waterfalls On this trip each time we published photos of waterfalls we managed to outdo the previous one. We agree, Montmorency Falls was pretty impressive. It was a bit difficult to find a waterfall that was even more impressive. But we managed. We will publish a blog later on with those pics. /Ake
Trompe-l'œil art of Sherbrooke Your blog makes Sherbrooke a must-see I must say, Ake. Wall Art or Murals around the World come in all shapes from the untalented to the majestic. Sherbrooke has presented the magnificent and hats off to the foresight of their municipal authorities in making sure it is so. Wonderful that none of your images appear to be defaced by graffiti. A worthy addition to TB's "Wall Art or Graffiti" thread in the Photography Forum. Check 'em out.
Again thanks for the Forum update ...and once more I have to thank you for adding my pictures to the photography forum. Glad you enjoyed the blog. /Ake
Jogging and Sightseeing Yay! I love how, because you were pressed for time, you decided to do your sightseeing in Ottawa by jogging - time efficient indeed! Very interesting to read about a number of places I'd never heard of, you do seem to "travel between the lines" on your trips - so many undiscovered places to explore.
On lesser known places The wellknown and famous places are often a great experience. But many of the lesser known places can be charming and interesting too. It can be a bit of a challenge to find them but when we do we enjoy it a lot. Good to hear that you also enjoy reading about those places. /Ake
Running I remember your last blog on Running (didn't realise there were two others). I can totally see how it would be a great way to combine two loves and sight see while jogging through a place. Very impressive collection of photos Ake and Emma, I particularly like the one with the camel in Senegal :)
We won't stop We don't have any plans to neither stop travelling nor stop running so hopefully there will be a fourth running blog in the future. I think the best running photo we have taken is the first one in the first "Running all over the world"-blog. It came out very good. The first photo in the second "Running all over the world"-blog is also interesting. /Ake
Poutine I love poutine! And I look forward to having it in its native land one day :) But like you, Andrew isn't a fan. The cabin in the woods looks amazing, what a find by Emma :)
The cabin was awesome The cabin was very cosy. Thankfully we had a car those days. That's one of the great advantages a car gives you. It is possible to stay in an accomodation that isn't centrally located. /Ake
Perspective I enjoy and respect sympathetic restorations, but repurposing old architectural structures is so much more meaningful to me... breathing life into them in a practical way. I love the perspective and depth of this photo :)
They did a good job They did a good job bringing that tunnel back into life. It is both a pretty cool sight to visit, much thanks to the lights, and also a useful bicycle tunnel. /Ake
This and your following pic could not be more contrasted I have posted them in TB's 'Cathedrals, grand churches, mosques & places of worship" thread in the Photography Forum. Check 'em out!
Thanks Thanks for doing that. Too rarely I manage to find time to add my own photos to forums I'm afraid. So I am happy that you do it every now and then. /Ake
Anonymouse Reminds me of necromancy based on the meanderings of mice that we came upon in a game of Balderdash on holidays recently, the name for which I cannot recall. Is Anonymouse based on miniaturisation that mice could inhabit, or is there another reason for the Swedish collection's quirky name?
Anonymouse They build homes, shops, nightclubs, restaurants designed for mice. Well, they are in mouse size anyway. They are not actually used by mice of course. The artists don't sign their creations with their own name so they play with words and call themselves Anonymouse. /Ake
Fascinating Quebec A potpourri of delights of Quebec. A great photo selection. Hard to pick, but I select this one for composition with arcs, angles and straight lines that do not fit in any box in my reckoning!
Interesting choice I never thought about that photo as having any kind of artistic quality. But now that you mention it, there are some interesting elements to it. Thanks for noticing. /Ake
We are Emma Holmbro and Ake Dahllof. We live in Stockholm, Sweden.
We have travelled more or less regularly since the mid 1990-ies and it seems like the more we travel the more difficult it is to decide where to go next. Not because we are running out of places to visit but because we find more places we want to go to faster than we manage to travel to them.
Some of the things from our travel bucket list we have ticked off since we started this blog in 2006 are
