Bangladesh garments workers get union rights, higher pay in wake of deadly factory collapse 1) On April 24 2013, a factory in Bangladesh collapse killing 1,127 factory worker. This was a tragic event that could of been prevented. The factory owners added floors, illegally, to the factory building, that collapse, and added heavy mechanism on that floor. Because of this, Textiles Ministry have started to inspect factories; they have so far temporarily closed 22 factories because of safety issues. Because of this incident, they started to check factories and raise the minimum wage. I see a problem with this. The problem is there should have been inspectors checking factories before the factory collapsed, and factories workers should have been paid enough where they can feed their family.
